New non-profit helping visionary vets

With far too many veterans facing unemployment, talking heads have long lamented the dearth of opportunity in America for its heroic servicemen and women.
Respected conservative talk show host Don Smith is putting actions behind his words with the creation of All American Veterans Services.
I recently had the chance to speak with Smith about the non-profit organization for which he serves as chief executive officer. He explained AAVS was designed to provide all the support an aspiring entrepreneur might need in transitioning from military life to the business world.
The group has secured committed partners including Legal Zoom and Regus to donate professional services such as filing necessary paperwork and securing office space.
Veterans interested in participating can submit their business ideas online at allamericanvets.com, Smith explained, noting the search is underway for the first recipient of the unique business start-up package. Those inclined to do so can also use the site to make a monetary donation.
In contrast to many other charitable organizations, Smith said he takes the term “non-profit” seriously and the group commits 100 percent of all donations to those AAVS was designed to help.
In coordination with its first fundraising drive, Smith said all donors during the month of January will be entered into a contest with prizes including autographed copies of recent New York Times bestselling books.
Though a primary mission of AAV is to guide veterans in the process of establishing their own business, Smith said the organization is committed to helping soldiers in any way possible.
The group will provide job placement services, family counseling, and access to housing assistance programs, all at no cost to its clients, he added.
Though I tend to refrain from generalizing any particular group of people, America’s military heroes are among the most deserving of any among us and are often the most neglected.
Smith recognized that disparity and developed a phenomenal organization tasked with correcting it – one veteran at a time.
