MLB Postseason Wednesday: Current Standings, Who’s Playing and Where to Watch

Update: The Washington @ Chicago game from Tuesday was postponed due to weather and will be played at 4 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Two matchups are featured in Wednesday’s MLB playoff schedule as the Chicago Cubs face the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field for game 4 of their division series and the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians fight for the right to move on to the ALCS in a pivotal game 5.

What Happened in NLDS Game 3

The Cubs lead the series 2-1 last night’s win despite National’s ace Max Scherzer’s lights out performance. He went 6 1/3 innings and carried a no-hitter into the seventh despite concerns about his hamstring. Scherzer struck out 7 and allowed three walks in a 98-pitch outing. It wasn’t until left-hander Sammy Solis replaced him that the Cubs were able to score on a knock from Albert Amora Jr. in the seventh, tying the game at one each. The Cubs pulled ahead with two outs in the eighth on Anthony Rizzo’s single to left and took that 2-1 lead to the finish.

Max Scherzer put on a show and the Cubs looked like they weren’t going to get be able to get out of their own way for much of the game. Chicago committed four errors, two on an ugly play by left fielder Kyle Schwarber, and two baserunning blunders. If the Nationals had been able to capitalize on the Cubs’ mistakes, the game could have gone the other way.

Yankees and Indians face off for winner-take-all Game 5

The Yankees and Indians are tied 2-2 in their best-of-5 division series. Home field advantage has meant everything in this series.as each team has won their home games while losing away which, if the trend continues, could put the Indians on top in tonight’s game.

Probable Pitchers for Wednesday’s Games – 10/11/17

The Nats will give the ball to right-hander Tanner Roark (season ERA 4.67, 13-10) to face Jake Arrieta (RH, Season ERA 3.53, 14-10).  Arrieta was pushed to game 4 due to right hamstring pain from a Sept. 4 injury.

Left-handed Ace CC Sabathia (Season ERA 3.69, 14-5) will take the start for the Yankees facing Corey Kluber (RH, Season ERA 2.25, 18-4) for the Indians.

Current MLB Playoff Standings

Home field advantage for the ALCS depends upon who wins the Indians/Yankees matchup. If the Yankees take it, the Astros will have home field, if the Indians win Game 5, they’ll have it.

For the NLCS, the L.A. Dodgers will have home field regardless of whether the Cubs or Nats take the series.
