Follow the Money…COVID Money That Is

This post will be dryer than most. It is about numbers. Numbers with lots of zeros in the amounts of money our government can waste in a New York Minute. Not so long ago, we talked about Congress’s money spent by the Billions. We now speak about trillions of dollars. Nobody can comprehend a Trillion dollars. One trillion dollars is about $3,300 for every man, woman, and child in America. America is in debt to the tune of nearly $30 Trillion or $99,000 per person and growing by the minute.

The U.S. Government has misplaced billions of dollars of COVID stimulus money, and nobody seems concerned. If you lost a couple of thousand dollars, there is a good chance you might notice it missing and do some investigating. Misplacing it could be a mistake but letting it go unchecked is negligent. Worse still, some think we need another round of stimulus checks sent to Americans to help with the effects of OMICRON. By the way, the government has no money of its own. They have our money.

Let’s look at some real numbers reported by the Treasury Department. We hope we can trust their math.

Accounting of COVID Funds allocated in 2021

Appropriated $4.6 Trillion

Obligated $4.0 Trillion

Outlays $3.5 Trillion

Unspent $1.1 Trillion

Unobligated $600 Billion

A quick explanation:

Appropriated Amount set aside in bill

Obligated Amount assigned to a specific account

Outlays Amount actually distributed

Unspent and unobligated remains to be allocated and spent

On the surface, that means $1.7 Trillion is already approved by Congress that has not been earmarked for a specific need or project. The $3.5 Trillion in outlays only means it has been distributed to the states or a Federal agency. It does not mean it has been spent.

That took a couple of hundred words to say that spending money is an extremely irresponsible process for the Federal Government. There is nobody to follow the money after the President signs a bill allocating funds. We watch the Legislature pile the pork onto these bills, and in short order, Congress is making waves that we need more.

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, was given a whopping $900 million four years ago to build a mental health facility to provide the numerous homeless individuals in the city with quality care. Now, it seems the money has completely disappeared, as no record exists of how the taxpayer dollars were spent. Nearly $1 Billion is gone, and nobody looks twice. This is one example of how easily money is wasted, and no one is held accountable.

Joe Biden wants to hire 80,000 IRS agents to delve into every aspect of American money habits. A big city’s mayor’s wife blows a Million dollars and no investigation, but Joe wants to know every purchase you make over $600! Are you kidding me? I guess this is what Biden calls job creation. Good luck to Joe finding 80,000 people tasked with spying on their neighbors.

This post is dry, but the topic is essential. The government has mortgaged our children’s future. They have been doing it for years, but there have never needed this many zeros. When you need 12 zeros, you are talking some serious money. Make them stop. Period.
