Hamas Leader Khalil al-Haya allegedly promised another October 7 style attack during a press conference Wednesday just after a tentative ceasefire was announced, according to multiple reports.
Al-Haya said that the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel “will forever be a source of pride for our people” and expressed no regret for the destruction caused by the terrorist group, according to multiple sources. As of Wednesday afternoon, a six-week ceasefire is set to begin on Sunday, with both sides set to exchange hostages and Israeli troops withdrawing from Gaza.
“This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies,” President-elect Donald Trump said on Truth Social Wednesday. “I am thrilled American and Israeli hostages will be returning home to be reunited with their families and loved ones.”
Al-Haya revealed himself to be the leader of Hamas publicly for the first time as well, after the previous leader, Yahya Sinwar, was killed by Israeli forces in October 2024. Hamas killed around 1,200 civilians while taking over 240 people hostage on the Oct. 7 attacks which started the war.
The ceasefire has not been officially endorsed by either side, but talks are expected to run into the late night Wednesday, according to The New York Times. Right wingers in the Israeli government said they objected to the deal, but Israel Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Saar said they’d likely cave when the vote comes around.
“Leadership is about deciding between a bad decision and a very bad decision,” Saar said according to the NYT. “If we postpone the decision, we don’t know how many of them will survive.”
The Israeli government did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
