President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team announced Tuesday that they have finalized an agreement with the Justice Department to do background checks on Trump’s team.
Trump’s transition team signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to begin submitting names for FBI background checks, according to Reuters. The new agreement will enable the agency landing teams to access the necessary information for taking charge of federal agencies and departments.
“This agreement with the Department of Justice will ensure President Trump and his team are ready on Day 1 to begin enacting the America First Agenda that an overwhelming majority of our nation supported on Election Day,” said Trump’s incoming chief of staff Susie Wiles.
Wiles served as Trump’s 2024 campaign manager, and she’s the first woman to hold the position of White House Chief of Staff as she leads Trump‘s second administration. “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in a statement.
The team had previously signed an agreement with the White House to streamline meetings between officials across federal departments and agencies and their counterparts for the January transition.
