The National Rifle Association announced Thursday that it will challenge Oregon’s petition to ban assault weapons.
Although Initiative Petition-43 has not yet been passed, the NRA released a press release disclosing the organization’s joint challenge with the Oregon Hunters Association.
The petition was filed on March 22, 2018, by a Portland interfaith group, Lift Every Voice Oregon.
The measure gives a lengthy definition of assault weapons, which includes semi-automatic rifles and pistols with a detachable magazine and one of several modification, semi-automatic firearm with a fixed magazine holding over ten rounds, semi-automatic rifles with an overall length less than 30 inches, semi-automatic shotguns with a grip and stock, a semi-automatic shotgun with either a fixed magazine in excess of ten rounds or a detachable magazine, a shotgun with a revolving cylinder, or a conversion kit.
In addition to prohibiting their possession, the petition would ban the manufacture, sale, transfer, or importation of assault weapons. Breaking this law would constitute a felony, reports the Statesman Journal.
“Banning the most popular style of semi-automatic firearms and standard capacity magazines is a violation of the Second Amendment,” said the executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, Chris Cox, in the press release. “Misleading voters into believing that these type of bans will have any effect on violent criminals is reckless and dangerous. Proposals like these give criminals the upper hand against law-abiding gun owners.”
Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley also expressed his discontent with the initiative, calling it “a ‘feel good’ law that won’t make the schools or malls or churches any safer,” according to KVAL-TV.

There are in the neighborhood of 7 Billion (potential) assault weapons on the earth today – one inside every human head. In addition there are about 14 billion assault enactors – one at the end of every human arm. These are the only means of human assaults. The tools used by these assault weapons assault N-O-T-H-I-N-G so long as no human uses them to make THEIR assaults more effective. A tool can be a rock or it can be a red button that launches a ballistic missile! But the tools are not the CAUSE of the assault!!!!!!
Banning more effective tools does N-O-T-H-I-N-G to stop assaults!!! STOP making murder fashionable (glorifying school shooters and other drug-imbibed assault weapons, and justifying, with gonzo logic, the holocaust of abortion as indifferent to consequences). Return to the 7 virtues as the only means to counter the 7 Deadly sins!
The Second Amendment gives no one ANY Rights! Our rights to keep and bear arms PRE DATES our government – or ANY government. Taking away the Second Amendment would only give the Liar Leftist Elite a sense of legality – an act of THEFT of the LAW! – to do as he wishes. THAT would be an act of assault upon our unalienable RIGHT to protect our lives and our property!

Semi-autos were invented over 100 years ago. Kids used to bring guns to school for show’n’tell and nobody ever got shot or killed. How stupid do these legislators have to be to believe this will do any good? Oh wait, they don’t care, they just want to get the guns out of the peasants hands like the Nazis.
