Jeffrey Epstein Victim Claims She May Have ‘Mistakenly’ Accused Alan Dershowitz Of Sexual Assault

A victim of deceased convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein said she may “made a mistake” in levying a sexual abuse allegation against attorney Alan Dershowitz, settling a defamation lawsuit against him Tuesday, The New York Times reported.

Epstein trafficked Virginia Giuffre when she was a minor, and in 2014 she publicly accused Dershowitz, a former friend of his, of having sex with her when she was underage, according to the outlet. She later filed a defamation lawsuit against Dershowitz for allegedly defaming her following the allegation, but that lawsuit and a separate one filed by Dershowitz were concluded Tuesday without any party paying the other, according to a statement and court filings.

“I have long believed that I was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to Alan Dershowitz. However, I was very young at the time, it was a very stressful and traumatic environment, and Mr. Dershowitz has from the beginning consistently denied these allegations,” Giuffre said in the joint statement about the settlement, NYT reported. “I now recognize I may have made a mistake in identifying Mr. Dershowitz.”

Giuffre previously settled a lawsuit against the U.K.’s Prince Andrew, an associate of Epstein, who she claimed raped her when she was a teenager, without the prince admitting guilt, according to NYT. She also sued convicted sex trafficker and Epstein’s longtime girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, for defamation and settled a suit against Epstein himself for $500,000 prior to his 2019 suicide.

“She now recognizes that she may have made a mistake in falsely identifying me and that I have maintained my total innocence from the beginning,” Dershowitz told the DCNF in a statement. “The matter is now closed. My innocence is clear. ”

“She has suffered much at the hands of Jeffrey Epstein, and I commend her work combatting the evil of sex trafficking,” Dershowitz stated, NYT reported. He had said after Giuffre’s accusations against him emerged that he regretted having represented Epstein in his alleged first sex trafficking court case in 2008, in which Epstein pleaded guilty to prostitution.
