Davenport Mobile Dog Groomer charged with attack on Elderly Neighbor Highlights report on Increase of Battery on Men over 65

A Davenport dog groomer has been charged with Felony Battery on an elderly person. Lancer Hayner, of Muddy Mutts Mobile Dog Grooming, was charged for striking a person over 70 with a weapon after a verbal argument. The victim’s wife witnessed the unprovoked physical attack and fearing for the couple’s safety called 911.

Initially, Hayner denied to police officers, that he had struck the victim. However, after review of video taken at the scene, it was clear that he had struck the victim and had given false information to a police officer. He was arrested and transported to a Polk county holding. He faces Felony Battery on an Elderly person charges. He was released on $1000 bail.

Attacks like this have increased at an alarming rate in not just in Florida but Nationwide. According to a report by the CDC and reported by CNN “The report estimates that the rate of nonfatal assaults against men 60 and older increased by 75.4 percent between 2002 and 2016.”The group out of the 60 plus range, finds that men aged 60-69 had the highest rate of assaults

Lead researcher for the CDC, Joseph Logan told AARP: “These rates are still climbing [and] are novel and indicate this demographic group is in need of attention and help with respect to violence prevention efforts.” 

Logan said the CDC is investigating the circumstances of violence against older adults and how they differ across various age and sex demographic groups.“This objective will be part of our next study on violence against older adults,” he said. “Those who were assaulted were most commonly struck or hit.”
