Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) press secretary, Christina Pushaw, announced her resignation from the governor’s office.
“I am resigning my position as Press Secretary for the Executive Office of the Governor, effective August 12, 2022,” Pushaw wrote in her resignation letter. She added that making Florida the freest state in the U.S. was “the opportunity of a lifetime.”
While Florida’s mainstream media likely began to rejoice upon receiving this news, the follow-up likely ended the celebration.
“Governor DeSantis’ Press Secretary @ChristinaPushaw resigns from state office to serve as Director of Rapid Response on the governor’s re-election campaign,” the Florida Standard tweeted.
Pushaw will be succeeded by Bryan Griffin as press secretary as she moves into a campaign position and with just five words, she let the media know that if they thought she was tough on them before, they have another thing coming.
“Now, the gloves are off,” she tweeted in response to the Florida Standard’s post about her transition.
Pushaw is known for her no-nonsense, media fact-checking and direct call-outs where media used unethical tactics against DeSantis. (RELATED: Meet The DeSantis Spokeswoman Who’s Putting The Media On Defense)
Most recently Pushaw told an Associated Press (AP) reporter to “lose her number” after he decided to use only a portion of a quote she sent him with the instructions to use the full quote. She also refers to AP as “American Pravda.”
With Pushaw running media interference for DeSantis for his re-election bid, this might be the most interesting race to watch in 2022.
