On Potential National Security Investigation into Automobile Imports

Today, I met with Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross to discuss the current state of our automobile industry. I instructed Secretary Ross to consider initiating a Section 232 investigation into imports of automobiles, including trucks, and automotive parts to determine their effects on Americas national security. Core industries such as automobiles and automotive parts are critical to our strength as a Nation.

On the Senate Passage of the VA MISSION Act

President Donald J. Trump applauds the U.S. Senate for voting to pass the VA MISSION Act [Full Text of Bill] today, an important piece of legislation that will transform the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) into a high-performing and integrated healthcare system for the 21st century and provide Veterans with more Choice in their healthcare options, whether from VA doctors or from the community.

Passing this legislation is another promise made and promise kept to Americas Veterans under President Trumps leadership, which has provided the most substantial VA reform in a generation.

The Administration will continue implementing policies that transform and modernize the VA to better serve our nations heroes.

On the Amendment of the Puerto Rico Disaster Declaration

Today, President Donald J. Trump made additional disaster assistance available to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico by authorizing an extension of increased Federal funding for certain emergency protective measures under the Public Assistance program.

Under the Presidents order today, the time period for 100 percent Federal funding for emergency power restoration is extended for 90 days and the time period for 100 percent Federal funding for emergency temporary power support and Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power (STEP) is extended for 120 days.
