Liberals Puzzled by Widespread Rejection Of Wokeness as Polls Continue to Hammer Them

The Blue State Conservative

One thing for which the left must be given credit is the ground game they employ once they decide to launch a new battle within the ongoing culture war.

Their strategy requires their foot soldiers – aka the mainstream media – to kick off the hostilities by launching airstrikes: floating the basic concepts of a narrative on news broadcasts and opinion pages. Next, accomplices in woke corporate America and academia begin their all-out artillery assaults by parroting the media’s concerted talking points. Then, once defenses have been softened, in comes the left’s infantry, as elected officials across the fruited plain ramp up the rhetoric to a fever pitch.

Such has been the case with the left’s intense campaign against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill (CS/CS/HB 1557) which was signed into law last week. The media pushed the rebranding of the bill as the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” and they were largely successful in applying that label. Corporate wokesters, most notable of which was the Disney Corporation, bowed to the pressures of a small but vocal contingent of radical employees and echoed the media’s lies. And then, in came a thunderous chorus of elected officials from the extreme left of American politics to drive the nail home.

We must give credit where it is due, and the coordinated offensive by the left against the Florida bill protecting children and parents from leftist indoctrination was a sight to behold. But there was one major problem with their effort. It has failed. Miserably.

Polling data has consistently indicated that, once Americans are aware of what the law actually states as opposed to the left’s dishonest depictions of it, there is solid and extensive support for the law. When the Wall Street Journal unveiled its poll results last Friday, many on the left shrugged their shoulders and dismissed its findings that not only do a strong majority of Americans support the law, but a remarkable 55% of Democrats support it as well. The poll was conducted by the unbiased Wall Street Journal, and for the left, any outlet that is unbiased means it is far-right, so they blew it off.

But yesterday, another poll showing similar results was released, and this time it was from the leftwing pollsters at Yahoo/YouGov. According to the poll, 76% of Republicans support the law, which isn’t particularly surprising. Yet much to the shock of the left, the poll also showed that only 52% of Democrats opposed the law, which is substantially more than the WSJ poll, but still lightyears from where they had expected those numbers to be after all their propaganda.

An article detailing the poll sums up their puzzlement:

“What may be more unexpected is that the new survey of 1,618 U.S. adults, which was conducted from March 31 to April 4, found that nearly a quarter of Democrats (24%) also think it should be ‘illegal’ for ‘teachers or other school personnel to discuss sexual orientation or gender identity when teaching children in kindergarten through grade three,’ despite weeks of objections and outrage from party leaders and activists.’”

Unexpected indeed… for those on the left.

What the left and their media miscalculated on with this latest culture war battle was the inherent and fiercely protective nature of parents. It’s one thing to spew your vileness and hatred on late-night talk shows, but it’s quite another to try and inject it into the minds of kids. The left’s culture warriors will undoubtedly reflect on their tactical missteps as they lick their wounds from this defeat, but they’d be much better served if they did some soul searching and reevaluated their ideology.
