Former California Governor Jerry Brown is now 83 years old, living off-the-grid, eating dandelions (probably), and undoubtedly reminiscing about that long ago romance of his with Jane Fonda. Ahh, the good ole’ days. But even still, Governor Moonbeam frequently finds time to inject himself into today’s politics, and his take on things is as predictable as ever. But there is a surprise twist this time around: Jerry actually makes a good point.
In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Brown had this to say about the current state of affairs:
“It’s true that the Russians are earning money from oil and gas, but to compound that problem by accelerating oil and gas in America would go against the climate goals, and climate is like war: If we don’t handle it, people are going to die and they’re going to be suffering.”
Most of that statement is nonsense, of course, but there are some profound shreds of truth. Consider the following:
“Climate is like war”
Right, you are Governor, well done. Wars are very seldom about what they appear to be. The current war in Ukraine, for instance, is about little more than the maniacal imperialist aspirations of dictator Vladimir Putin, but pundits around the world would have you believe it’s about other distractions such as natural gas or oil. Similarly, climate politics has nothing to do with our environment, it’s about power and implementing the left’s socialist agenda. See the Green New Deal for details.
“People are going to die”
Again, you hit the nail on the head, governor. Tens of thousands have already died in the Ukraine War, and Putin is just getting started, and the same can be said with climate, though not for the reasons you imply. Far-left climate policies, like the ones you advocate for, will kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people. Increases in food and energy prices, and reductions in supply chain capacities will make food and medicine unaffordable for many. And that’s not to mention the inevitable murderous actions by socialist despots that will undoubtedly result if you’re successful.
“And they’re going to be suffering”
Correct! Millions of Ukrainians are suffering right now, having been forced from their homes into the winter cold, and wondering from where they will get their next meal. And the suffering from climate politics is equally as real. Gas prices are almost double what they were when President Joe Biden took office, and that type of inflation has real-life consequences. Morons like Stephen Colbert may tut-tut the rest of us, suggesting we need to stop complaining about gasoline prices so we can have a “clean conscience,” but Colbert and the other elites live in their Hollywood bubble.
In middle-class America, skyrocketing gasoline prices means choosing between driving your kid to volleyball practice and being able to buy enough groceries to feed your family. Astronomic gas prices mean being forced to quit an otherwise higher-paying job because that thirty-minute commute is no longer affordable. Climate politics means misery alright, and that misery is being felt right now at the pump for millions of Americans.
Jerry Brown – like so many other delusional, leftist tree-huggers – can afford to sit back and lecture the rest of us about their idiotic ideas on climate, because they’ve made fortunes by lying to folks. But for the rest of us, the war he and his cronies are waging on us is delivering genuine pain and anguish. Congratulations Governor Brown, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Now go back to your cabin, smoke your bong, and leave the rest of us alone.
