That Didn’t Age Well: Biden, Obama, And Clinton Said THIS About Russia In 2012
Mitt Romney lost the presidential election in 2012 because he was a vanilla candidate, which was par for the course until Trump came along, but two moments really stick out in my mind that ultimately sealed the deal against him.
The first was his famous 47% comment, which took the corporate media and professional victim class by storm. In hindsight, he was dropping some serious truth bombs. I hadn’t seen this one for years, and wow does he hit the nail on the head. (It makes you wonder what happened to this Romney; instead we get BLM-marching and J6-scolding Romney nowadays). Anyways, here’s what earned him 2012 quote of the year honors:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what … who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims. … These are people who pay no income tax. … and so my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
What a great line. I get that Yale Law was awarding him top honors in jest and mockery, however, I will claim that as the most honest, transparent remark on the insidious nature of government dependency in years. He cut right to the core of the matter. As they say, though, no good deed goes unpunished and Romney might have lost the election after this single remark.
The second line that hurt him was not so much his comment, rather a retort to a comment of his. Who among us that were alive in 2012 could forget this exchange in the October 2012 presidential debate between Romney and the incumbent Obama?
ROMNEY: “[Russia] is without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe. They fight every cause for the world’s worst actors. The idea that [Obama] has some more flex in mind for Russia is very, very troubling indeed.”
OBAMA: “The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years.”
Here is that moment in particular:

What else can you say? That didn’t age well. It was wrong then and it’s definitely wrong now. He wasn’t alone, though. An article at Fox News had these quotes from the 2016 and 2020 Democratic presidential candidates:
Biden similarly suggested the Republican was living in the past. “Romney acts like he thinks the Cold War’s still on… I don’t know where he’s been.”
Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used the same line of attack against Romney, telling CNN, “I think it’s somewhat dated to be looking backward instead of being realistic about where we agree, where we don’t agree.”
And you wonder why we’re in such a mess. When these idiots don’t have a basic understanding of how the world turns, of course, they create problems.
