MSM Contradicted: Cain Preferred by Tea Party

So much for racism. I know polls are not worth much now when it comes to elections, but Gallup’s latest poll says that Herman Cain is favored by Tea Partyers and southerners, illustrating that the Tea Party and people who are from the South are NOT racists. Now Democrats and the MSM will have a more difficult time playing the race card.

A poll that Gallup released Friday, October 14, 2011, (conducted October 3 – 7) of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents who identify themselves as supporters of the Tea Party, show they favor Cain by a 9 percentage points over Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Cain was the top choice among self-described conservative Republicans, just as he was the top choice among self-described Republican Tea Party supporters.

Poll results showing Cain leading among Republican Tea Party supporters contradicts the view that the Tea Party is racist and motivated by a desire to remove a black president from office. Morgan Freeman, appearing on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on September 25, 2011, said, “Look at the – look – the Tea Partiers, who are controlling the Republican party, their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. … What underlines that? Screw the country. We’re going to do whatever we need to do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man out of here.” No word yet from Morgan Freeman about these poll results.

Cain is also leading among Republicans in the South, where Cain is at 21%, with Perry at 19%.

  1. I’m an educated progressive who, professionally and personally (in my free time) has worked hard for decades on issues of poverty. I have a lot of direct professional/personal experience on topics of racism. Herman Cain follows the beat of his own drum to be sure. His perspectives land him, in my life’s experience, as the highest profile racist “brown-person” that I can think of. Sure, he’s got a couple of tough competitors. But he’s certainly arrived himself into the top ten. Herman Cain’s message to all the races seems to be: “If you aren’t pro-corporate or rich, well, better hope you aren’t Muslim, Mexican, Afro-American, etc. too.”

I’d guess that conservatives, including his Koch brothers support system, e.g., Cain’s campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for Americans for Prosperity, or AFP, the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending. Cain credits a businessman who served on an AFP advisory board with helping devise his “9-9-9″ plan to rewrite the nation’s tax code. He’s spent years speaking at AFP events.

The AFP tapped Cain as the public face of its “Prosperity Expansion Project,” and he traveled the country in 2005 and 2006 speaking to activists who were starting state-based AFP chapters from Wisconsin to Virginia. Through his AFP work he met Mark Block, a longtime Wisconsin Republican operative hired to lead that state’s AFP chapter in 2005 as he rebounded from an earlier campaign scandal that derailed his career.

When President Barack Obama’s election helped spawn the tea party, Cain was positioned to take advantage. He became a draw at growing AFP-backed rallies, impressing activists with a mix of humor and hard-hitting rhetoric against Obama’s stimulus, health care and budget policies.

Block is now Cain’s campaign manager. Other aides who had done AFP work were also brought on board.

Cain’s spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael, who recently left the campaign, was an AFP coordinator in Louisiana. His campaign’s outside law firm is representing AFP in a case challenging Wisconsin campaign finance regulations. At least six other current and former paid employees and consultants for Cain’s campaign have worked for AFP in various capacities.

And Cain has credited Rich Lowrie, a Cleveland businessman who served on AFP’s board of advisors from 2005 to 2008, with being a key economic adviser and with helping to develop his plan to cut the corporate tax rate to 9 percent, impose a national sales tax of 9 percent and set a flat income tax rate of 9 percent.

Cain is a Koch brothers special interest corporate spokesperson presidential candidate.

Let’s just be clear that the “main street pizza man” is Cain’s front. This will be Cain’s cross to carry.

    1. To politically tuned-in adept progressives, Cain’s rise with the help of AFP, shows the incredible influence that outside groups controlled by super-wealthy individuals and their corporation vehicles, with specific agendas, can have on our political process.

The question is “how well” can we (people like me) articulate that? OWS is absolutely a perfect venue for people, like me, to do exactly that. Look. People are being screwed. They do know that. They don’t yet understand how/why. OWS is a new venue opened up. There are many hungry minds trying to figure out why their futures don’t look like futures. The greed and corrupted democratic political process we are living in is a perfect lerning lab. The Koch brothers’ Cain candidate is a fantastic teaching aid… he represents everything “corporate America” and very, very little “people America.”

      1. Anonymously yours,

For an “educated”, “adept” and “tuned-in” person, your intellect is pointed in a single direction.

If AFP allegedly pushed Cain and that upset you, why didn’t ACORNS financial and resource support bother you?

By focusing only on one party’s candidates as evil, you make yourself irrelevant.

You aren’t a great thinker – you are an automaton spreading terrible messages based on a lack of thought.

I know most have already disregarded you on this site. I am probably just talking to you, but seeing you reply to your own post signals that you too have realized this fact. You should back away from your ideology, rethink things and come back with something that makes sense.

Oh, and if you stand so strongly behind your positions, why hide?
