Women walked the red carpet in the sexiest of outfits composed of see-through, filmy, almost lingerie type dresses that were sleeveless and showing lots of breasts, cleavage and leg positioned in sexy alluring poses one had to wonder if they protesting sexual harassment or promoting it with their come-hither looks and poses.
Taking their cue from the Golden Globes, a group of Democratic women in Congress plans to wear black to President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address later this month.
Support for the symbolic protest is high within the Democratic Women’s Working Group, which includes all of the Democratic women in the House, Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., told NBC News on Tuesday.
“This is a culture change that is sweeping the country, and Congress is embracing it,” Speier said.
Speier said that she and the other members of the DWWG were inviting men and women attending — both Democratic and Republican — to join in.
Trump is scheduled to speak to Congress in the annual address on Jan. 30.
While saying that this is a change that is sweeping the country and Congress is embracing it is a good thing I can’t help but think they are wearing black at the State of the Union speech protesting Trump also since he has been accused of harassment in the past. They will do anything to show their hatred for Trump ignoring the fact that he is a president who has done nothing but improve our economy, our safety, our security and our independence more than any of the past three presidents..
Denzel Washington struck a contrast to the sanctimonious tone at this year’s Golden Globes, where celebrities who knew about Hollywood’s culture of harassment for years somehow found a way to congratulate themselves for coming clean about it.
“It’s important to follow through,” Washington told NBC’s Al Rokeron the red carpet. Indeed, while it’s good to see that Hollywood is finally talking about its toxic culture, celebrities and filmmakers should wait to actually do something before celebrating.
But actions speak louder than words. Speeches, pins, black tuxes, and sentiment won’t change the industry unless the powerful figures — the ones who call the shots — take action. Washington seemed to calmly say just this when he broke with the virtue signaling that characterized the evening.
“It’s important to follow through,” he told Roker. “It’s important to see what’s happening a year from now. So that takes all our efforts, real movement and real change of — I don’t know laws, but rules of behavior.”
I agree with Denzel. Denzel has always been a common sense down to earth kind of guy whose opinion I can respect. He’s not like these other celebrities with flighty opinions that are pure emotion devoid of fact who always jump on the bandwagon because it is the latest fad.
They did the same thing they did with wearing red ribbons a few years ago to fight aids. It’s nice to show solidarity, but results are what’s Important and wearing black or wearing red ribbons doesn’t help matters. It’s results and follow-through as Denzel said that matters. Let’s see where things are a year from now or is this just the latest fad.
These actors and actresses all come out now and act so shocked that this was going on when they knew for years and years that this was going on. In the film industry, it was known as “the casting couch” where directors and producers would have sex with future stars and promise them roles. Wikipedia puts the casting couch as far back as 1902.
Early Harvey Weinstein accuser actress Rose McGowan was not impressed with the many celebrities who chose to wear black to show solidarity with the #MeToo movement, aimed at raising awareness about sexual harassment.
The 44-year-old star of the television show “Charmed” accused Weinstein of raping her in the 1990s, People reported.
“I have been silenced for 20 years. I have been slut-shamed. I have been harassed. I have been maligned and you know what? I’m just like you,” McGowan said in October. “What happened to me behind the scenes happens to all of us in society and it cannot stand and it will not stand.”
In December, McGowan first expressed her feelings about the planned “silent protest” for the Golden Globes.
“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest,” she wrote on Twitter, referring to Weinstein.
“YOUR SILENCE is THE problem,” McGowan continued. “You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa,” she added, referencing the fashion line owned by Weinstein’s estranged wife Georgina Chapman.
Oprah gives a rousing speech that is pure emotion and suddenly everyone touts her as the next president even though she worked closely with Weinstein and knew what was going on. She even sent women to him that he sexually harassed.
British actress Kadian Noble said that Weinstein used Winfrey and actress Naomi Campbell to fool her into believing he would further her acting career. Noble had met Weinstein in 2014 at a British Academy Film Awards after-party.
There, Weinstein allegedly introduced Noble to Winfrey and Campbell, before telling Noble that he had an interest in her acting ability.
Noble claimed to have been impressed by Weinstein after she witnessed Oprah “swinging off his arm.”
The actress recounted that instead of helping her career he only wanted to have sex with her.
Everyone knew this was going on and now they speak out. That’s like closing the barn door after the horses are in. Now let’s see results.
