Likelihood of the J&J Vaccine Reaction is One-in-a-Million… ‘So You’re Telling Me There’s a Chance’

The Blue State Conservative

The blending of Hollywood with American politics is nothing new. It’s been going on for decades. But we’ve seen the phenomenon rise to a whole new level this week, as federal health officials appear to be shaping policy based on one of our favorite movies. Has the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) taken the lead from the 1995 film Outbreak, starring Dustin Hoffman? Nope. Are they mimicking And the Band Played On, which documented the early days of the AIDS epidemic? No, not even close. Our bureaucrats in the FDA and CDC are apparently striving to equal the idiocy of Jim Carrey’s character Lloyd Christmas from the movie Dumb and Dumber.

Towards the end of Dumb and Dumber, as you may recall, Lloyd finally has an opportunity to press Mary – his love interest – for her opinion on the potential of a romantic relationship. “The least you could do is level with me. What are my chances?” asks Lloyd. “Not good… like one out of a million,” replies Mary. After initially appearing deeply disappointed, Lloyd pauses for a moment to reflect on the math, brightens up with a smile on his face, and observes excitedly, “So, you’re telling me there’s a chance!” Such is the mindset of our scientists at the FDA and CDC.

On Monday, both the FDA and CDC issued a recommendation to ‘pause’ the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson-&-Johnson due to apparent adverse reactions to the inoculation by six women. The women were stricken with a rare blood-clotting disorder, and one of the victims reportedly died from the condition. But with over 6.8 million Americans having already received the J&J vaccine, and considering that only six people were afflicted, the arithmetic is easy enough for even Lloyd Christmas to calculate. The chances of developing this disorder are less than one in a million.

If such a development had occurred two years ago, most of us would have shrugged our shoulders and quickly determined that our government was simply looking out for our best interests; but not now. After more than a year of Dr. Anthony Fauci and scores of other so-called government health experts doing their darnedest to scare the crap out of us regarding the perils of COVID, Monday’s announcement demands not only skepticism but ridicule.

They shut down not only our national economy but the global economy as well, as millions lost their livelihoods and life savings. They mandated we wear masks wherever we go, even though most places we wanted to go to had been shuttered indefinitely. We had to forego family gatherings with our elderly parents for fear of infecting them. For months, we were not allowed to worship in our churches, synagogues, and mosques lest we ignite a “super-spreader” event. And when friends and family members died, we were forbidden from mourning with other loved ones at wakes and funerals due to this omnipresent, terrifying disease.

The brutality of COVID is so prevalent and so life-threatening according to those experts, we’ve been forced to thoroughly change our very way of life. Those 90th birthday parties which we missed last year will never come again. Those opportunities to hug and cry at wakes with friends who lost their parent or spouse are gone forever. And now as we’re clearly coming out of the pandemic – as the number of new cases and virus-related deaths are on the decline nationally, due largely to the continuing effort to vaccinate as many Americans as possible – those same health experts who have been demanding submission to their every, inane suggestion have shut down the J&J vaccine; even though the chances of developing the condition are less than dying from flesh-eating bacteria.

Many of us are hesitant to get vaccinated, and that apprehension is understandable, particularly for those who are young and healthy. Whether the reasoning for such decisions comes from the rushed nature of the vaccines’ development or a justified mistrust of our government, ultimately each one of us must make a risk assessment of our own situation. There are indeed risks with the vaccines, but there are also serious risks with being infected with COVID. We must therefore consider which risks we would rather face: the risks associated with being infected with COVID, or the risks that come with the vaccines.

We have states which have experienced over 2,800 COVID deaths per million citizens. Even if we doubt the validity of some of those statistics, there is no doubt COVID can be deadly. Depending on one’s age and the co-morbidities one might have, the health risks of being infected with COVID can be frightening. It is for those individuals that the vaccines from J&J, Pfizer, and Moderna are absolute godsends, and nothing short of miraculous. With tens-of-thousands of Americans having been vaccinated with the J&J shot every day prior to Monday, and with many states continuing to struggle to attain enough overall vaccines to provide to those who want them, how many people who would have otherwise been vaccinated in the interim will end up becoming sick as a result? And how many of those folks will die?

There are groups, particularly among those who are very elderly with serious co-morbidities, who can expect a greater than 10% chance of dying from COVID if infected. People within those groups can therefore expect a probability of over 100,000 per million who are infected to die from COVID. Yet our genius health experts are telling us those folks should not get vaccinated because there’s a less-than one-in-a-million chance they could be inflicted with the blood-clotting disorder. There it is folks; your government tax dollars at work.

The decision by the FDA and CDC to urge suspending J&J vaccinations is not about public health, it’s about government control and politics. If we’ve learned nothing else during the COVID pandemic, it’s that we have government leaders who absolutely crave power. First they told us not to wear masks, then they told us if we don’t wear masks we’d be killing old folks. Now they tell us to wear two masks, as many Americans nod in compliance and play along. If President Joe Biden and Dr. Fauci held a press conference tomorrow, and if they told us in order to fight COVID we all need to stand on our heads and spit wooden nickels out of our asses, we’d have millions of Americans immediately going online searching for where to buy wooden nickels.

The longer the pandemic continues, and the longer Americans live in fear of the boogieman named COVID, the longer Democrats can keep a chokehold on citizens. Fear of COVID provides an excuse for dictating where we are permitted to go. Pandemic panic allows Democrats to spend trillions of tax dollars on socialist programs they hold dear, putting our national debt and economy into a death spiral. And ensuring each of us is afraid of our own shadows with COVID will enable Democrats to apply similar voting procedures to last November, thereby giving them loose processes to exploit if needed. Shutting down the J&J vaccine is just one more way for the left and their media to extend the COVID terror and preserve it as the useful tool it has become.
