Three Things to Watch in Sports this Weekend

1: The Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins may have gotten a stranglehold on their chance at a rare repeat when they throttled the Nashville Predators 6-0 on Thursday.

This up and down series has been hard to predict as it only days ago seemed that the upstart Predators had seized the momentum after soundly beating the Penguins twice at Bridgestone Arena.

Game six on Sunday night will be a must win game for the Predators who have already far exceeded expectations as the lowest ranked seed in the playoff field. There is little chance that the team will come out flat in front of one of the most boisterous home crowds in the NHL.

There is the added incentive of not wanting to see your opponent drinking champagne from Lord Stanley’s Cup in your own building.

The game starts at 8 PM on Sunday.

2: The Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday in Elmont, NY. The thoroughbred race has been a fixture for 149 years and is one of the three contests known as the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness are the others.

Post time is at 6:37 PM ET on Saturday.

3: Team USA will play a qualifying game for the 2018 World Cup against Mexico. The Americans are led by 18-year-old star in the making Christian Pulisic who is hoped will lead the U.S.A. to competitiveness when the World Cup takes place next summer in Moscow.

Pulisic scored two goals in Thursday’s 2-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago

The game will take place in the thin air of Mexico City at Estadio Azteca on Sunday at 8:30 pm ET.
