A Nation of Dependents

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” — United States Declaration of Independence.

Let’s call this piece a friendly rebuke, one that encourages you to stand up rather than one that offends. Certainly, you will not like hearing this, but it needs to be said.

We all remember the famous words penned by Francis Scott Key, the words identifying America as the “land of the free, home of the brave.” Sadly, those words ring hollow today. Freedom and bravery are just relics of the past. The truth, if you’re willing to hear it, is America is now the land of the entitled, home of the enslaved.

For over a year, American citizens have submitted to “authority.” They have gladly, or in some cases begrudgingly, bowed to orders. Governors, in an incredibly bipartisan way, have deemed the people as “essential” or “nonessential.” They have told you what to do, what to think and what to wear in public. Only one governor, Kristi Noem of South Dakota, can be credited with not issuing any statewide mandates, but even she has failed to protect the people’s rights from local tyrants. Just ask Reed Bender, a father removed from a school board meeting in Noem’s state and arrested for the heinous crime of showing his face.

And what do we get from the Republican Party, that party that so vaunts itself as the one protecting freedoms and claiming a governing philosophy of limited government? We get the largest spending bill in American history, the CARES Act, and we get utilitarian arguments rather than libertarian arguments.

The farce of listening to some Republicans now bemoaning the size of Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan after gleefully applauding themselves as saviors for the CARES Act becomes unbearable. For the one Republican with a spine, Rep. Thomas Massie, he was the target of immense bipartisan ridicule and scorn for opposing his party’s socialism last year with Donald Trump tweeting to “throw Massie out of the Republican Party!”

Fast forward to this month when Sen. Rand Paul had an exchange with Anthony Fauci, the career bureaucrat we’re told to revere as America’s doctor despite him never seeing a patient in his life. Instead of liberty, Paul’s arguments were on utility. He argued masks were “theater” for those immune or those vaccinated rather than masks are theater, period. Paul asked for studies supporting Fauci’s pronouncements ignoring that no study can give the government the right to violate our liberty.

Let’s talk about Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott who lifted his state’s mask and capacity mandates in early March. Instead of apologizing for his tyrannical rules and admitting he never had authority for any of his mandates, Abbott said in a statement that “medical advancements of vaccines and antibody therapeutic drugs” allowed his dictates to end.

The reality is that America’s dictators have the “consent of the governed.” We have sat idly by as the government has destroyed millions of jobs and millions of lives. The best we ever get is a little whining and complaining. Just watch the videos of the Ohio mother tased at her son’s middle school football game last fall or the elderly woman tackled by police this month in Texas, even after the state mandate was lifted, for not wearing a mask. You’ll see Americans simply onlooking or even mocking as they watch their rights, not only those of the women in question, being stripped away.

Think about your kids for a moment, your grandkids and future generations not even born yet. We’re robbing them blind with massive government spending and rapid destruction of our liberty. Put aside your comfort for a moment. Stand up and cry out for independence and reject the dependent state that we’ve become.

This insanity will continue as long as we sit by passively. There are no saviors in Washington, your state capitals or your village halls. It is up to each and every one of us to take our freedom back.

If your freedoms come from God, and they do, then no dictator ever has the right to take them away unless due process of law is served.

  1. Seth this was extremely well presented…..and tearfully truthful…….OUr lack of Stewardship, whatever the excuse, has put us on a direct path to an ‘obiedient’ Socialist nation. I might add it is also a well thought out plan that included aspects of this “pandemic” and the human invasion from our Southern Border….
    If a nation is plauged by sickness, a destroyed economy while it language and cultures are stole or replaced, it loses it sovereignity….and dies.

    as dependence on Big Government grows we goose step towards the third world.
