U.S. Flags to be Flown at Half Mast for 9/11

President Donald Trump designated Monday, September 11, 2017, and again in 2018, as Patriot Day in honor of the almost 3,000 people who lost their lives on that day in 2001.

“On Patriot Day, we honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken from us on September 11, 2001, and all of those who so nobly aided their fellow citizens in America’s time of need” the proclamation read. “We rededicate ourselves to the ideals that define our country and unite us as one, as we commemorate all the heroes who lost their lives saving others.”

The president ordered all federal government agencies and departments to fly the stars and stripes at half staff and requested U.S. state governors and private individuals to join in the observance.

If there’s a flag flying on your home and/or at your place of work, remember the fallen by dropping it to half mast or requesting that the appropriate person do so.

Today, we honor the memories of the souls we lost on September 11, 2001, and pay tribute to all of the patriots who have sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom. We pray for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen currently serving our Nation in harm’s way. We thank the dedicated men and women who keep our homeland safe and secure. We applaud the unsung patriots in city halls, community centers, and places of worship across our country whose simple acts of kindness define the greatness of America.
