Parler Kinda Shows Up, Gab Goes Offline

update: Gab is now online, requesting comment.

Parler, the free speech alternative to Twitter, returned to the internet on Sunday, but not quite all the way. Taken together with the sudden disappearance of Gab.com – there are no free speech alternatives to Twitter left online.

Parler Resurfaces, But It’s Not Back

Parler’s domain, Parler.com, resurfaced showing a post by the company’s CEO John Matze and a message.

No other information is provided on the single-page website currently residing at that address.

Parler was the #1 most downloaded app before Big Tech erased it from the internet. Matze said just a few days ago that it may not be able to recover from Google, Apple and Amazon’s overt moves to silence free speech.

Tracing the route to the new Parler host, me thinks this is a short-lived appearance (only showing the last part of the trace for my own security.)

The request terminates at twelve99.net which belongs to GoDaddy.com and unfortunately for Parler, they use Amazon Web Services to provide DNS (name resolution) and Amazon doesn’t like Parler very much.

I liked Parler and had done significant work to build a following there. With the delay of its return, if it returns at all, means we’ll get to work on building up our Gab profile. Find us @CDNNow on Gab.com and if Parler comes back, we’re @conservativedailynews over there.

Gab.com Goes Down … for a Bit

Annnd… just after I posted the Parler update, Gab.com went offline for about 90 minutes. This isn’t a traffic/volume issue as the name lookup is failing (DNS lookup).

Attempting to simply ping the domain name should have resolved an IP then “pinged” it revealing latency. Instead, no DNS server on the internet has a valid IP for Gab – all of the sudden. It was working at 1:00 p.m. EST on January 18, but then at 2:10 p.m. … not so much.

Gab returned to service at about 3:30 p.m. EST.
