Man Who Wore ‘Camp Auschwitz’ Shirt At Capitol Riot Is Arrested In Virginia

A man seen at the Capitol riots last week wearing a sweatshirt with “Camp Auschwitz” emblazoned on it was arrested in Virginia on Wednesday.

Robert Keith Packer was taken into custody in Newport News by U.S. marshals, according to records from the Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk, Virginia.

CNN and The New York Times first reported Packer’s arrest.

Packer stood out in the sea of rioters who stormed the Capitol last week because of his shirt. He was photographed both inside and outside the Capitol sporting the anti-Semitic garb, which referred to the infamous Nazi concentration camp.

CNN identified Packer on Sunday as the man in the photos.

According to a local news report, Packer, 56, is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Federal authorities have arrested dozens of people who took part in the riots, which started following a rally held to oppose the 2020 presidential election results.

Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., said on Tuesday that he expects “hundreds” of people to be charged in relation to the breach. He said that investigative files have been opened on at least 170 people, and that more than 70 have been charged with a range of crimes related to the melee.

Sherwin said that prosecutors are looking at bringing a variety of charges against some rioters, ranging from charges for trespassing to seditious conspiracy to felony murder.

Brian Sicknick, a Capitol police officer, died after sustaining a head injury in the riots. Ashli Babbit, a Trump supporter from San Diego, was also fatally shot by a police officer after she attempted to enter a restricted area of the Capitol.
