A cancer patient fired several rounds inside an urgent care center on Thursday night in New York, New York, the New York Post reported.

Joseph Gill, 65, fired multiple rounds inside the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Urgent Care before barricading himself in a bathroom, a New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective Sophia Mason told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Gill fired five or six shots and was taken into custody around midnight, the Post reported.

Police responded to the incident just before 9:30 p.m. and Gill was arrested minutes before midnight, Mason told the DCNF. Gill faces charges of two counts of attempted murder against a police officer and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon, specifically of a loaded firearm.

The NYPD’s 19th Precinct said that the situation that “had the potential to be a ready situation, was thankfully ended with a peaceful resolution,” in a statement posted to Twitter Friday morning.

No injuries were reported immediately following the shooting and it was unclear whether Gill took any hostages before he was taken into custody, according to the Post. Gill was reportedly released from the hospital Thursday, though it’s unclear if he was a patient at the Memorial Sloan Kettering facility.

Several police units responded to the incident including the NYPD’s hostage negotiation team and emergency service units, according to the Post.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Mason told the DCNF.

The Memorial Sloan Kettering urgent care facility did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
