Report: Clinton and DNC funded Trump Dossier

According to a report, the Hillary Clinton for President campaign and the Democratic National Committee provided funding for research that produced the infamous Trump dossier that made unproven allegations that Donald Trump colluded with Russians to defeat Clinton.

Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.

After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to the people.

Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the firm in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Prior to that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC through the law firm continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

First, Hillary and the DNC chose to go through a confidential third party to engage Fusion GPS which indicates knowledge that the tactics weren’t all that above board or that the information wouldn’t be truthful. The tactic is reminiscent of what intelligence agencies do to avoid implication in otherwise nefarious activities.

Second, they only kept Fusion GPS onboard until they lost. If they were truly concerned about collusion they would have kept the research funded to get to the truth. Instead, it looks only like a politically-motivated hit-job they knew would provide little more than mainstream media fodder.

Another important point is that a so-far unknown Republican client began the research – something that should be chased down. Voters need to know who or what factions are working against them so they may make more informed voting decisions in the future. If it was the RNC, Corker and Flake’s drop out will just be the beginning of a 2018 mid-term establishment bloodbath.
