CBP Officers Shutdown Smuggling Attempt of Methamphetamine and Heroin Worth Over $1.2 Million at the Laredo Port of Entry

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers intercepted a significant amount of hard narcotics with an estimated street value of more than $1.2 million in one enforcement action at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge.

“The drugs that were seized today pose a direct threat to our communities,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers and a great example of the layered enforcement implemented by CBP.”

The seizure occurred on Thursday, July 23 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2002 Chevrolet Impala for a secondary examination. During a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, seven packages were discovered containing a total of 16 pounds of alleged heroin.  An additional 12 packages were also discovered containing a total of 56 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle.

The narcotics combined have an estimated street value of $1,217,738.

CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
