Michigan Anti-Lockdown Protesters Had Their Phone Data Tracked: Report

Phone data from around 400 protestors, who descended on Michigan’s capital in late April to protest COVID-19-related government orders, was reportedly collected by a liberal advocacy group, a Tuesday report alleges.

The Committee to Protect Medicare and Affordable Care group used cell phone data generated by an application called VoteMap to track the movements of the rally’s attendees after they departed from the capital. This data was then allegedly used to map out exactly where they spanned across the state in an effort to generate data about the spread of COVID-19, according a to a report from The Detroit News.

The protest, dubbed The American Patriots Rally, was a response to Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s perceived draconian regulations on people and businesses amid panic from the state about containing the spread of the virus. Whitmer — whose state is under lockdown until June 12 — was notorious for banning the sale of items such as garden hoses, vegetable seeds and furniture among hundreds of other things, according to Forbes.

Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano in April felt as though Whitmer was treating the state “like children.”

Dr. Rob Davidson, executive director of the group tracking the protesters phones, is a former Democratic congressional candidate. He alleges he witnessed the attendees “scatter across the state,” even tracking some of them as far as Indiana, The Detroit News reports.

Some attendees like Phil Robinson, the founder of a Michigan militia group, felt as though his liberties were infringed by the actions of Dr. Davidson.

“I’d have still showed up, but I would have left my phone at home. I wouldn’t have gone live on Facebook,” Robertson told The Detroit News.

Robertson also doesn’t buy the organization’s health message, as the liberal group appears to have shown little interest in tracking the masses of George Floyd demonstrators in any of of three major cities of Michigan.

“That doesn’t make sense,” Robinson told The Detroit News. “They’re going to track us at the Capitol but nowhere else?”
