BuzzFeed blows it! Mueller’s Office Disputes Questionable Reporting on President Trump

The special counsel’s office disputed a bombshell report published by BuzzFeed alleging that President Trump instructed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress.

“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate,” Special Counsel Spokesman Peter Carr said in a statement Friday.

The refutation comes after Buzzfeed asserted that two law enforcement officials with knowledge of the investigation told their reporters that President Trump ordered Cohen to lie to Congress about the Trump tower meeting and that the Special Counsel’s office had corroborating evidence.

The White House categorically denied Buzzfeed’s accusations, but Democrats piled on using the ill-sourced and now seemingly invented report to call for Trump to resign or be impeached.

Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro tweeted, “If the @BuzzFeed story is true, President Trump must resign or be impeached.”

The Special Counsel’s office rarely offers commentary on reportage which makes the Buzzfeed story’s facts even less credible.

BuzzFeed’s editor-in-chief sought to protect the outlet’s reputation by challenging the Special Counsel to be more specific about what was being disputed.

“We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he’s disputing.”

Buzzfeed and Michael Cohen have both suffered blows to their credibility of late. Cohen has been convicted of lying to Congress and Buzzfeed led the charge on the Steele Dossier even though FBI officials had called it “salacious and unverified.”

This is a breaking story and will be updated as events warrant.
