Still at it: House Democrats Launch Investigation Into Trump’s ‘Remain In Mexico’ Program

- The program, while it’s hailed by immigration enforcement officials as a necessary tool, has long been derided by Democrats and immigrant-rights groups as dangerous and legally dubious for asylum seekers.
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee announced that they are investigating the Trump administration’s Migrant Protection Protocols initiative, calling into questing the program’s legality.
The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigrant and Citizenship on Tuesday delivered a letter to Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf on Tuesday, announcing its investigation into the administration’s Migrant Protection Protocols program, more popularly referred to as “Remain in Mexico.”
Democratic members trashed the Remain in Mexico program as dangerous and legally dubious, and demanded the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) hand over numerous documents and statistics so they can move forward with an investigation into its effects.
“We write to renew our objections to the ‘Migrant Protection Protocols’ (MPP), as we continue to question the policy’s legality and remain deeply concerned about its impact on vulnerable populations,” the Democrats wrote in the letter. “We strongly believe that MPP is a dangerously flawed policy that threatens the health and safety of legitimate asylum seekers — including women, children, and families — and should be abandoned.”
The message was signed by New York Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and California Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren, the chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship. Six other Democrats on the subcommittee were also part of the announcement.
“The House Judiciary Committee has held hearings, sent oversight letters, and participated in a variety of staff-level briefings in which administration officials have been unable or unwilling to answer basic questions relating to MPP,” the letter continued. “A comprehensive review of the policy, its implementation, and its impact on vulnerable populations is necessary.”
First launched in January 2019, Remain in Mexico has been an instrumental tool for the Trump administration in its mission to control the southern border crisis.
Under the program, foreign nationals who reach the U.S.-Mexico border and claim asylum must wait in Mexico for the entire duration of their court proceedings. This mostly eliminates the possibility of “catch and release,” where migrants are apprehended by Border Patrol, but due to the vast number of those in custody, they are quickly released into the interior of the country with the promise that they return on their court date.
There are roughly 50,000 foreign nationals currently under the Remain in Mexico program at the moment. A vast majority of them so far have not won their cases — proving Trump administration correct when they claim that many of their asylum claims are dubious.
Every senior administration official within DHS, along with Customs and Border Protection, has credited Remain in Mexico has having helped stem the border crisis and brining integrity back into the U.S. immigration system. However, Democrats and immigrant-rights groups have grown incensed at the program, claiming its forcing migrants to live in squalid and dangerous conditions in Mexico, a country that is not known for its security.
These lawmakers have long pressed the Trump administration on Remain in Mexico and its effects, but Tuesday marked the most dramatic move to scrutinize the program to date.
Democrats asked DHS for the following information: documents and correspondence about the program dating back to December 2018, the total number of people and families involved — including a demographic breakdown, the number of people placed and then removed from MPP, documents regarding tent courts erected for MPP hearings, and other pertinent documents.
Members of the committee have asked for this information by Jan. 30.

The democrats incessant desire to oust President Trump from his office is not only embarrassing it shows a giant weakness and fault in our system. Every time we read the news there’s an article telling us the democrats are going to INVESTIGATE something. It goes on non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We need a congressman to introduce a law to limit the powers of the Congress to investigate matters of interest and stop this incessant investigating to enhance their own powers. It means a continuous effort and non-stop investigation of President Trump, or a continuous impeachment process, while the democrats waste our money and time in doing nothing more than trying to regain power. It needs to be stopped.
Without mass immigration the Democratic Party (socialists) will shrink away. They know this. There are over 30 million illegals in the country now. Census data is useless. “ Hello, I am from the federal government. Are you here illegally, please answer yes or no.” There is no count of illegals. Our country is at stake now. This is exactly why the EU will come to pieces sooner or later. Brexit was approved again because the British want control of the mass immigration forced on them by the Socialists in Brussels who are calling the shots. Democrats in Washington DC calling the shots for us will destroy our country, the process is well on it way. Trump is standing in its way, one man!
Democrats have no interest in what’s best for America. Democrats are only interested in what’s best for democrats!!

Until the Senate confirms more Judges that enforce, not make laws every single XO from Trump will be challenged…Frankly, I’d like to see the ELLIS ISLAND concept renewed with ‘holding tanks’ in various locations…
In meantime, elections are our best bet…YES YOU CAN REACH across State lines, not to vote, but to influence the vote…..HOW? Short, well thought out letters to the editor extolling your choice of candidate in the various districts..don’t overlook the small town papers. they generally are more accepting…Call in radio/blog casts have a good audience. ….of course, financial support is welcome as well.
In your own District…get involved…physically if possible. Contact your candidate’s campaign Hq and offer to block walk, had out flyers at Walmart, join phone banks, lick postage stamps…Don’t wait for your neighbor, he’s probably waiting on you !!! It’s a numbers game, the candidate that gets the most out to vote wins…

Let’s show “we the people” power and help OUR President drain the swamp
I suggest for every illegal or legal refugee wanting to enter our country that we send a Congressional Democrat over the border to Mexico or south of Mexico or wherever the refugee or illegal alien comes from. When all of the Congressional Democrats are gone we can start shipping out Democrat state leaders. It would at least give us Americans more of a level playing field. As it stands now we have no choice in the immigration issue and all that is ever said is that we should allow all who ask to come in to come in, no questions asked. It’s a stupid way to run a country.
