Willful Democrat and Media Blindness about Trump’s Remarks on NATO

During the 2016 campaign and after his election, Trump frequently criticized NATO as “obsolete” and knocked allies for not paying their “fair share.”  [However,] at Wednesday’s press conference Trump said, “The secretary-general and I [just] had a productive discussion on what more NATO can do [to] fight terrorism.  They … [are] no longer obsolete.” – The Hill, April 12, 2017

The Democrats and their media colluders (hereafter the DNC) recently whipped themselves into a state of hysteria about Trump’s recent remarks that he would let Russia invade NATO countries that do not pay their pledged 2% of GDP.  The Comical News Network reports that Trump’s “incendiary remarks sent shudders through Europe”.   PBS hosted former Bush’s ambassador to NATO, Kurt Volker, to call Trump’s remarks “outrageous” and lecture the peasants that since Russia is now raping and killing as a weapon of war in Ukraine “one should not wish this on anyone … [This is] the opposite of what we should be trying to do.”  CNN, describing Trump’s remarks as “reckless”, reports that NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says “Trump’s comments about abandoning the alliance endangers US and European troops.”  MSNBC, during its regular daily anti-Trump propaganda segments, describes Trump’s remarks as “unhinged”.    Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) stated to “Morning Joe” Scarborough on Scarborough’s scripted daily anti-Trump propaganda commercials that Trump’s remarks effectively give Russian President Vladimir Putin a green light to invade Europe and set the stage for World War III.  The New York Times states that Trump’s remarks are “reckless” and “only serve Putin’s interests.”  President Biden, between naps, said, “Can you imagine a former president of the United States saying that? The whole world heard it. The worst thing is he means it.”  One could continue indefinitely but this all sounds much like the Trump-Russia Collusion Hoax that the election-denying DNC shamelessly ran for several years trying to nullify Trump’s 2016 defeat of Hillary Clinton.

Actually, no Joe, Trump didn’t “mean it.”   Apparently, Biden and the DNC have forgotten that Trump wrote a book called The Art of the Deal in which he talks about how one secures a good deal with oftentimes recalcitrant opponents.  The fact that Trump turned a several million-dollars from his father (there is disagreement about how many millions) into several billion dollars (The Richest says 3.5 billion in 2017) is prima facia evidence he knows how to secure a deal.  Trump’s success in getting several Arab states to sign the Abraham accords normalizing relations with Israel that all the geniuses said was impossible is more evidence.  His success getting North Korea’s Kim Jong Il to stop nuclear weapons and ICBM tests is another: “In 2018, when Trump was still in office, North Korea didn’t conduct any nuclear or missile tests.”  Unfortunately, these tests have returned to an “all time high” under Biden who was sold to us as “the most experienced foreign policy candidate ever”.  One could go on but that is sufficient prima facia evidence of Trump’s ability to close a deal.   

One important theme in Chapter 6 of The Art of the Deal titled “Grand Hotel: Reviving 42^nd Street” is that sometimes to get the deal one must put “public pressure” on the parties in order to get them onboard.  Apparently quite a revelation to many of the business wizards that inhabit our “news rooms”, this does not involve making “nice-nice” to the recalcitrant parties until they miraculously cave.  That is, in his recent controversial remarks about NATO, Trump is already setting the stage for this thing called “negotiating”.  He is hinting that when he becomes president, he will once again put the pressure on NATO members to cough up their committed 2% of GDP.    He says this now because he wants to convey to possible voters that it will once again be his intention to protect the American taxpayers from being forced to carry the load that should be carried by the Europeans, should, that is, protecting the American taxpayers be of any interest to the DNC. 

One would have thought that this was not particularly hard to figure out since it is precisely what Trump already did in his first term.  Can the DNC remember back that far?  The Patriot Post reports that “Globalists are up in arms again over the former president’s tough talk, but there’s no denying that he’s gotten results.”  Although Trump’s very similar rhetoric was condemned by all the appeasers in his first term, even the National Review, which has not been either nice or fair to Trump, admitted that

The substance of [Trump’s] complaint — that the alliance was being shortchanged by many of its members — was fair. And his approach, reinforced by many Europeans’ growing realization that the threat from Putin could not be wished away, worked. Many more NATO members started to boost their defence spending.

In other words, Trump is not trying to destroy NATO.  Despite what the DNC, Neville Chamberlain, Democrat Party groupie Michael Beschloss and Tinkerbelle are saying, he is trying to strengthen it and hinder Russia’s warlike ambitions, something he already did in his first term by getting stingy NATO countries to pay their pledged mount.

These Trump critics seem not to have noticed that Trump is the only one of the last 4 presidents that did not have to watch Russia invade one of their neighbouring countries.  By contrast, Russia invaded Ukraine after Joe Biden, allegedly “the most experienced foreign policy” president ever, said that perhaps there would be only “minor consequences” for Russia if they only made a “minor incursion” into Ukraine.  Predators like Putin can smell the weakness in indecisive wavering paper tigers like Biden.  

For such reasons Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who actually, despite his long tenure in D.C., has somehow managed to retain some common sense and a basic understanding of the English language, said he had “zero concerns” about Trump’s NATO comments because Trump was merely referring to what he did in his first term when he “used leverage” to push NATO countries to “step up to the plate.”  Rubio here alludes to an astonishing admission Volker made about Trump’s recent NATO remarks, namely that

President Trump was … bragging … at a campaign event … about having said this in the past.  It wasn’t a comment about the future. 

Trump was not even stating what he would do in his second term!  He was referring to the successes of his strategy in his past term.  Can the DNC, when in campaign mode, even distinguish between past and the future anymore? This is typical of the DNC. They find an expression by Trump or other conservatives, pull it out of context, and deceptively try to work the peasants into a state of hysteria as a part of their self-serving election campaigning. 

The fact that the DNC cites Europeans like Stoltenberg to condemn Trump’s remarks is of no significance whatsoever because the Europeans simply don’t want to pay up.  Much better to let the American taxpayers pay their bills.  It’s just too bad that US taxpayers are of no concern to the media prima donna’s and multi-millionaire and billionaire elitists and “deep state” globalists in the DNC.
