NFL Owner Admits Fear of Angering Fans a Factor in Not Signing Kaepernick

You can expect to hear the liberals at ESPN wailing in outrage as an NFL owner has admitted that his team didn’t even consider signing Colin Kaepernick out of fear of alienating fans.

John Mara who is a co-owner of the New York Giants copped to a reporter that the team didn’t even bother with the controversial former 49ers quarterback due to the negative reaction from fans.

Kaepernick transformed himself into a polarizing figure when he refused to stand for the playing of the national anthem before games last year. Additionally, he made comments that were seen as derogatory to law enforcement and praised Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

The league suffered a precipitous decline in television ratings which some reports have at least partially attributed to Kaepernick and other players who protested the national anthem. The politicizing of the game alienated fans during an election year when the Democrats ran the most divisive campaign in modern history and ripped open wounds that may never heal.

Mara is the first to admit that the perception problems contributed to the decision to look elsewhere for a backup to aging quarterback Eli Manning.

NBC Sports is reporting “John Mara says signing Colin Kaepernick would lead to fan backlash”:

The NFL party line, as articulated by Commissioner Roger Goodell, is that Colin Kaepernick’s unemployment is football related, Giants owner John Mara has acknowledged off-field concerns contributing as well.

Mara told Jenny Vrentas of TheMMQB.com that the Giants didn’t discuss signing Kaepernick this offseason, and that they’ve heard from many fans who would be angry if they did.

“All my years being in the league, I never received more emotional mail from people than I did about that issue,” Mara said. “If any of your players ever do that, we are never coming to another Giants game. It wasn’t one or two letters. It was a lot. It’s an emotional, emotional issue for a lot of people, moreso than any other issue I’ve run into.”

Of course, the admission by Mara will fuel the fire for those who are trying to portray Kaepernick as an innocent victim who is being “blackballed” over his expression of free speech.

Those people are however too blinded by their own political agendas to even bother contemplating that what Kaepernick did embarrassed his employer while he was in uniform and on the job, it also caused the NFL to lose money because of his actions.

Anyone with a normal job who tried such a thing on company time would be immediately fired but that doesn’t even enter into the minds of the loony left.

There is hope that this entire circus may be ending though, activist director Spike Lee may have let it slip via social media that the Seattle Seahawks may be about to sign Kaepernick.

It would be a nice reward for the oppressed millionaire to go to a team with Super Bowl aspirations but it still won’t be enough for critics.
