Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Group of 15 Illegal Aliens from Congo

DEL RIO, Texas U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a group of 15 undocumented immigrants from Congo early Tuesday morning.

“Our Border Patrol agents are facing more unique challenges every day as the number of family units from different regions of the world continue to increase,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Randy Davis.

On May 28, agents performing line watch operations apprehended a group of 15 undocumented immigrants after they illegally made entry into the United States. During initial interviews, it was determined that all 15 were nationals of Congo. The group consisted of five adult males, five adult females, and five minor children. They were transported to the Eagle Pass South Border Patrol Station and processed per U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidelines.

All people apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks utilizing multiple databases including the use of biometrics to ensure those with criminal history are positively identified regardless of their immigration status.

Since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2019, which began Oct. 1, 2018, agents have apprehended more than 23,000 people from countries other than Mexico, who made their way into the United States illegally. This number is a 450 percent increase over Fiscal Year 2018 to date.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
