If the Border Crisis Continues, President Trump’s Accomplishments Won’t Have Lasting Value

Our country is facing the largest border surge in Border Patrol history.

The border crisis has hit a significant breaking point. A record 4,117 migrants were apprehended this past Tuesday and a Mexican news outlet, Mexico News Daily, has reported that this latest group of migrants traveling to the US could have more than 20,000 people and is being referred to as the “mother of all caravans.”

According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner, Kevin McAleenan, in El Paso, Texas, officials have over 13,000 migrants in custody this week alone. The majority of the illegal migrants entering the US are families or unaccompanied children which means they are “almost guaranteed to be released to remain in the US indefinitely”.

President Trump has been able to accomplish momentous feats during the first half of his first term despite media opposition and political obstructionists on all sides. Many of his policies and achievements have added substantial value for the American people and the president should receive due recognition. Some of his historical achievements thus far include: the First Step Act, the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and record low unemployment.

The First Step Act

President Trump introduced and signed into legislation new prison reform called the First Step Act. The law creates considerable changes in the treatment and rehabilitation of low-level federal prisoners. The United States has the highest rate of incarceration in the world and this law plans to reduce mass incarceration.

Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative

Daughter of the president, Ivanka Trump, led this initiative which desires to assist women in several areas such as job training, financial support, and entrepreneurship goals. This initiative’s goal is to influence and reach 50 million women in the developing world by 2025 to succeed economically.

Unemployment

Unemployment rates for Hispanics, African-Americans, and Asians are now at all-time lows and has helped to lift Americans out of poverty. The job market has flourished with more than 5 million jobs that have been created since President Trump’s election.

Taxes

President Trump signed into law the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which has had a significant impact on property owners, small business owners, and taxpayers. This act has reduced the corporate tax rate to 21 percent from 35 percent and temporarily reduced individual taxes.

President Trump has been able to battle his way through elite media’s fake news narratives, pure hatred from the left, and obstruction from his own Party, in order to secure our nation’s prosperity. However, without immigration reform, it could all be for nothing.

While the now debunked Russia collusion narrative continuously filled the media airways, many newsworthy issues were pushed on the back burner such as illegal immigration. Democrats and elite media have spent over two years berating President Trump’s border crisis warning as anti-immigrant hysteria.

Last month the president declared a national emergency at the border in order to tap into funding for a US-Mexico border wall. This had Democrats up in arms claiming he manufactured the border crisis to fulfill a campaign promise and ignored congressional authority. With Congress refusing to pass any border regulation the president presents, he has little option other than to assert his executive authority in order to protect our nation’s sovereignty.

If this unprecedented border crisis continues, it seems plausible that President Trump could lose faith with a large portion of his voters. With the Democrats stunting to allow for illegal immigrants to vote and without the requirement of IDs, if the immigration crisis does not resolve, the Republican Party has little hope of standing.

US laws must be changed because as it stands now, it allows migrants to claim asylum from anywhere on US soil. Many other policies such as DACA, DAPA, non-enforcement policies, and sanctuary cities have only fueled encouragement of illegal immigration.

The current amnesty policies reward lawbreakers which go completely against many founding American principles. This, in turn, subsequently punishes immigrants who come here legally and wait for years to go through the legalization process.

To stop this migrant crisis and to ensure our national sovereignty stays intact, there must be enhanced border security, stronger immigration enforcement, and an improved legal immigration process.

President Trump is currently threatening to shut down the border. Due to this continuing unprecedented border crisis, we no longer need threats, we need action. We need a wall and we need it now.

Illegal immigration is now not just a problem, it is a national crisis.

If our nation loses its sovereignty and we devolve into lawlessness, none of President Trump’s tremendous accomplishments will ultimately matter.
