Watch: Trump and Kim Appear Optimistic During Press Event Ahead of Summit
President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un of North Korea sat down for a press event just ahead of a social dinner Wednesday night. The large number of cameras make it difficult at times, but both leaders expressed optimism for the summit which officially kicks off on Thursday.
“We had a successful first summit,” President Trump said. “I think this one hopefully will be equal or greater to had the first.”
“We have had a lot of progress and I think the biggest progress was our relationship,” he added.
It was difficult to hear the translated comments from Kim Jong-un, but he thanked President Trump for his “courageous political decision” to meet with him.
“That gives us hope that we will be successful this time,” he added.
“I think your country has tremendous economic potential, unbelievable, unlimited. I think that you will have a tremendous future for your country and be a great leader,” Trump said to Kim.
The president would not confirm if he would declare an end to the Korean war saying only, “we’ll see.”
