Border Patrol Thwarts Smuggling Attempt, Detains10 illegal aliens
El Centro, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a 30- year old Mexican national attempting to smuggle 10 undocumented immigrants in a Jeep Cherokee. The arrest occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. while agents were working near the area of Mount Signal Road and Highway 98 this past Monday night.
Agents observed a Jeep without lights traveling northbound on Mount Signal Road. Agents responded to the area and attempted to make a vehicle stop as it traveled eastbound on Highway 98.
The Jeep attempted to abscond the Border Patrol and failed to yield. Agents pursued the Jeep and were quickly and safely able to end the pursuit using a controlled tire deflation device. The driver and all occupants were immediately taken into custody.
“El Centro Sector agents will not tolerate vehicle incursions into the United States,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “The threat of not knowing who or what is being brought into this country in a vehicle without proper inspection is unacceptable. We will detect you, arrest you, and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”
The subjects were transported to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further investigation and processing.
The Jeep was seized due to it having been used in the smuggling of the undocumented immigrants.
