Trump: ‘Our country needs a good shutdown’

President Trump said Tuesday that a government shutdown might be the only way to fix the mess in Washington.

The president posted on Twitter a sort of explanation for just how a democrat-friendly spending bill would get through a republican congress.

“The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there,” Trump tweeted.

The spending bill removed funding cuts to Planned Parenthood, National Institutes of Health and sanctuary cities while failing to fund the wall.

According to the president, the solution requires either voter involvement or the GOP growing spine. “Either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%,” he posted in a separate tweet.

President Trump has another option. He could veto the awful spending bill and shut the government down until a spending bill more aligned with his agenda is presented. It’s an idea he’s considering, but for later. “Our country needs a good ‘shutdown’ in September,” he tweeted.

Why the president doesn’t just use that option now is unknown. If Republicans won’t take the reigns of power that have been handed to them by the voters, perhaps Trump will.
