Blasey Ford Says She Can’t Remember If She Gave Therapist Notes To A Reporter, But WaPo Claims They Had Them

During Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, Blasey Ford said she could not remember if she directly gave reporters her therapist notes from 2012.

The Washington Post‘s article by Emma Brown revealed Sept. 16 the identity of the woman behind the anonymous letter sent to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California alleging Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school.

In the report, Blasey Ford says she never told anyone of the incident until 2012 during a couples therapy session, and WaPo appeared to claim it had obtained a portion of the therapist’s notes. She alleges Kavanaugh pinned her down on a bed and attempted to remove her clothing forcibly.

“Ford said she told no one of the incident in any detail until 2012, when she was in couples therapy with her husband,” the report reads. “The therapist’s notes, portions of which were provided by Ford and reviewed by The Washington Post, do not mention Kavanaugh’s name but say she reported that she was attacked by students ‘from an elitist boys’ school’ who went on to become ‘highly respected and high-ranking members of society in Washington.’”

“The notes say four boys were involved, a discrepancy Ford says was an error on the therapist’s part. Ford said there were four boys at the party but only two in the room,” it states.

At the testimony Thursday, nearly 12 days from WaPo’s report, prosecutor Rachel Mitchell asked Blasey Ford if she gave the therapy notes to the reporter at WaPo.

“Did you show a full or partial set of those marriage therapy records to The Washington Post?” Mitchell asked.

“Um, I don’t remember,” Blasey Ford responded. “I remember summarizing for her what they said, so I’m not quite sure if I actually gave her the record.”

“So it’s possible that the reporter did not see these notes?” Mitchell asked.

“Um, I don’t know if she — I can’t recall whether she saw them directly or if I just told her what they said,” Blasey Ford said.

“Have you showed them to anyone else besides your counsel?”

“Just the counsel,” Blasey Ford said.

The notes, which mention an alleged assault at some point in Blasey Ford’s life, are being used by her lawyers in an attempt to corroborate the alleged assault by Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh has continued to deny any allegations of sexual assault.

Later in the testimony, Mitchell asked Blasey Ford to clarify whether or not she showed WaPo the notes. Blasey Ford said her lawyers might have provided the notes to WaPo, but she is not sure.

“I don’t remember physically showing her a note. Perhaps my counsel did. I don’t remember physically showing her my copy of the note,” Blasey Ford said.

When asked again by Mitchell, Blasey Ford repeated her claims.

Again, I don’t remember if I showed her, like, something that I summarized or if I just spoke about it. Or if she saw it in my counsel’s office. I can’t — I don’t know for sure.”

WaPo commented on the potential miscommunication in a Thursday report.

“The notes were first disclosed publicly in The Washington Post’s initial report on Ford’s account. The Senate Judiciary Committee requested a copy of the notes, but Ford’s attorneys have declined to provide them, citing Ford’s privacy,” the report stated.
