The left has a problem with gender contradiction. They say that a man can become a woman, and a woman can become a man. Well, it actually goes beyond this because the mainstream position from the left is that you not only can switch genders, but that you can indeed choose any gender that you want. But it goes beyond even this. You do not have to just pick one gender and stick with it, but you can change your gender whenever you would like. Of course, this gender also comes predetermined at birth.
They do not use this type of language to describe their beliefs around gender. They do not say you can change your gender, but they say that your gender can change as if it is a natural function of your body that you have no control of. They do not say that you can choose a gender, but they say that you can be any gender. You do not switch genders, but you were always the gender you are now. If that gender changes, well, they do not talk about that because it is just one gender contradiction of many.
This contradiction barely touches the surface, however. Conservatives will often point out the fact that it is impossible to change your gender because it is ingrained into every fiber of your being. The chemical functions in your body, the reproductive systems, the brain, muscle structure, bone structure, and essentially every other physical aspect of someone’s body. Gender ideologues do have a response to this. They say that what we are describing is biological sex, which can not be changed, but that gender is a social construct.
My first point is that this is essentially a lie. We do not have to distinguish between gender and sex. According to the 2007 definition of gender from Merriam Webster gender means: “sex.” Clearly, it is a perfectly normal use of the word, but the left is attempting to erase this meaning. However, that being said, there is some truth in what they say. Another definition that has been widely used is: “the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex.” This definition is not just left-wing propaganda, and it is a perfectly valid use of the word.
Of course, this is not the definition that the left is talking about. While at first glance the previous definition may seem to confirm the validity of transgenderism, it actually confirms the opposite. Gender is the set of traits that sociology associates with sex — that is one of the two biological sexes. This is one of the main things that the left gets wrong about gender, gender is not a social construct, it is the set of traits associated with the social constructs around biological sex. Because gender is explicitly based on your biological sex, it is impossible to change your gender, but theoretically it is still possible to change ones perceived gender.
First off, if a woman is masculine, it does not mean that her perceived gender has changed. It means that she is more masculine. Masculinity and femininity are the names given to the two sets of traits associated with biological sex. So, becoming more masculine does not change your gender because this changes the traits, but not the social constructs that are still associated with your sex. To change your gender, you actually have to be perceived as a different sex, and thus have the social constructs associated with the opposite sex associated with you.
I have no problem with this claim because it is logically coherent, but all it says is that it is possible for people to view a man as a woman if they think a man is a woman. This is not what the left is arguing. The left is arguing that you can change your sex whether they admit it or not. Anything less than this is simply arguing that people can either become more masculine or feminine, or that people can switch their social perceptions which no one has argued with.
The left shows time and time again that transgenderism is about switching physical sex, and not metaphysical gender. One example of this is trans-sex athletes. They call these athletes transgender, and then use this as a justification for these “athletes” to compete with the opposite gender. Of course if we were really talking about social perception, and not physical sex then this would have absolutely no effect someone’s physical performance. But the Left makes this sex gender contradiction, and it does not matter if it is illogical because it brings more people into a group that will vote for Democrats.
