Op-Ed: ‘Uncle Tom’ trends on Twitter after Walker’s RNC Speech

The racist term “Uncle Tom” is trending on Twitter this morning and has been since the conclusion of Herschel Walker’s speech at the GOP Convention on Monday night.

Many people are regarding the speech as strong, powerful and moving including Sen. Ted Cruz (R – TX) who called them “Powerful, powerful remarks….”

But what made those on Twitter sound off and call Walker this derogatory term? Let’s quickly review some of the things Walker said of President Trump.

Walker painted a picture of the president that many people typically don’t get to see. He told personal stories about the president and how he’s a good friend and family man. In fact, Walker states this as the reason for speaking at the convention – that many people don’t really know President Trump for who he actually is as a person.

To speak to the president’s family life, Walker mentioned that if the president was in an important board meeting and one of his kids called, he’d stop in his tracks to answer the call. A similar statement was said about Joe Biden by his granddaughters, yet the president is painted by the media as impersonal and mean, but Biden a family man.

Walker said, “One time I planned to take his kids to Disney World with my family. At the last minute Donald said he’d like to join us. So, there he was – in a business suit…on It’s a Small World ride. That was something to see.”

This is a common narrative we hear from people close to the president – that he’s a good, genuine man. That he’s a hard worker and treats those around him with respect, regardless of position or pay-grade.

To speak to the president’s interactions with others Walker said Trump gave him some advice one time: to “make an effort to get to know people. Remember their names.” Walker said that advice really stuck with him throughout his life.

It’s that same mentality Trump has seemed to use in the White House. For example, after decades of little communication and harsh words when there were talks occurring, Trump was able to get through to North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un and reduce tensions. Although firm in the beginning, Trump visited the country and spoke with Un in person when no other president since the halt of the Korean War would dare to do so. This by itself shows Trump’s personality as well as communication skills. But it also shows Trump’s relentlessness, which is another topic Walker covers.

To speak to the president’s work ethic, Walker acknowledged that some people don’t like the way he overcomes obstacles.

“Some people don’t like his style – the way he knocks down obstacles that get in the way of his goals. People on the opposing team – they might not like getting run over either, but that’s how you get the job done.”

This is what “the opposing team” hates – that the president beats them. So, they’ll take down and/or “cancel” anyone and everyone who aligns with him even if it means they contradict their own creeds.

The fact that these same people who speak out against racial injustice and police brutality are the same people who will refer to a person of great accomplishment as “Uncle Tom” just shows their true colors. And guess what, those colors aren’t displayed on a rainbow flag, but rather a black flag that looks a lot like the precursor group’s flag to the German Nazis and their flag (see below).

Can you be both “woke” and racist at the same time? According to the “protesters” in Portland, Wisconsin, New York City, etc. and their actions, rhetoric and violence, it appears so.

The left is so blinded by their group (riot) mentality they can’t see how contradictory their actions appear. They’re fighting our fight for us – they’re making themselves seem irrational. That’s the whole point of politics – to make the other side seem irrational. If the “protests” continue to burn cities then the right won’t have to do anything and Trump would win in a landslide. But please, get out there and vote.

How are we supposed to get better as a nation with “protesters” destroying our cities and then calling a person of the race they’re supposedly speaking out for “Uncle Tom?” What sense does that make? The answer: none.

If we are to keep this republic, its democracy and way of life, we must continue to strive for a more perfect union. We must call out true injustices, like a Black man being called a racist term for supporting our president – a person he calls friend.

Vote for the sake of democracy. Vote for the sake of our country. The future of the United States may very well depend on a small number of votes.

  1. The ironic thing about the people who make ‘Uncle Tom’ comments is that they’ve never actually READ the book! It’s AGAINST slavery, not FOR it. Once again, the educational system has failed to live up to its potential.

  2. Very true! It seems there’s a lot of ironic situations going on today…a lot of things that shouldn’t be happening!
