Three Things to Watch in Sports on Monday

1: Game five of the NBA Finals will take place at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. The home Golden State Warriors have a chance to finish it off and collect their trophy after failing to close out the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

The Cavs played as if they were possessed by demons, roaring out to a huge first quarter league and never looked back. The 49 points scored in the opening twelve minutes were an NBA Finals record and the Warriors never knew what hit them.

Superstar LeBron James led the charge for the Cavaliers and will surely be fired up for Monday’s game. It is another must-win game for Cleveland or it’s over for them.

While it’s not a must-win for Golden State it’s important not to get beaten again and feed into Cleveland’s growing momentum. It seems like only last week that this team was flirting with a perfect postseason run and had an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

A loss at home sends the series back to Cleveland where the Cavs will be favored to win. The last thing that Golden State wants is an even series with all the marbles riding on game 7.

2: The annual Major League Baseball draft will take place in Secaucus, New Jersey. The three-day event will go through Wednesday although by the later rounds it will only attract the diehards, much like April’s NFL draft did.

Monday will feature the first two rounds and be followed up on Tuesday with rounds 3-10 on Tuesday and rounds 11-40 on Wednesday.

The first wound will be televised on the MLB Network and all subsequent rounds at mlb.com

The Minnesota Twins lead off the first round with the Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves making up the rest of the top five.

3: The New York Yankees will take their show on the road to face the Los Angeles Angels on the West Coast.

The Bronx Bombers exhibited a lethal offense over the weekend led by rookie extraordinaire Aaron Judge who continues to bash home runs that shatter long-established distance records by the day.

The week long road trip will also include a series against the Oakland Athletics who are mired in the early stages of a dismal season.
