Poll: Most Americans say government should ‘Buy, Hire American’ even if it costs more
A new poll found that a large majority of likely voters are in favor of President Trump’s executive order requiring federal agencies to promote and use American-made goods and services even if it costs taxpayers a little more.
A Rasmussen Reports national survey released Friday finds that 72% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the order to the federal government to buy American and hire American while just 15% are opposed.
The poll shows two key splits among voters on the Buy/Hire American strategy: Age and ideology.
80% of those 65 and older favor Trump’s nationalistic economic approach while only 66% of those 18-39 feel the same way.
The split is even wider among those of different political ideologies. 88% of conservatives support Trump’s approach but only 54% of liberals agreed.
42% of the survey participants felt that the American first approach would likely cost more, 35% felt it would cost about the same and 15% thought it might actually cost less.
