President Trump’s second official day in office was as busy and accomplished as the first with Trump signing executive orders on Tuesday that allow the construction of two pipelines using American steel and a successful meeting with the big three automotive executives.
Trump signed two executive orders that will expedite the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines along with three orders that make limit future government regulatory obstruction and require the use of American steel in the construction.
“This is about streamlining the incredibly cumbersome, long, horrible, permitting process,” Trump said after signing the orders.
Trump emphasized that he believes that the current agreements need to be renegotiated to be more beneficial to America.
“It’s something that [is] subject to a renegotiation of terms by us,” Trump said. “We’ll see if we can get the pipeline built. A lot of jobs, 28,000 jobs.”
Earlier in the day, Trump met with the executives from the big three automotive manufacturers to understand what can be done to create more car manufacturing jobs in the U.S.
“We’re very encouraged by the president and the economic policies that he’s forwarding,” Ford CEO Mark Fields told reporters. “As an industry, we’re excited about working together with the president,” he said.
On Wednesday, the president is expected to sign executive orders on immigration from dangerous countries.
Trump’s orders were expected to involve restricting access to the United States for refugees and some visa holders from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, said the aides and experts, who asked not to be identified.
It is unclear whether only incoming immigration from terrorist nations will be included or if other aspects of Trump’s immigration policy will also be signed.
