Kellyanne Conway Allegedly Assaulted at Restaurant

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway revealed Friday that a woman has been charged for assaulting her while Conway was at a restaurant with her teenage daughter and some of her friends.

“Somebody was grabbing me from behind, grabbing my arms, and was shaking me to the point where I felt maybe somebody was hugging me,” Conway told CNN’s Dana Bash. “She was out of control.”

“She was just, her whole face was terror and anger,” Conway added.

Conway called 911, but the woman left before law enforcement could arrive at the Uncle Julio’s restaurant. The woman, Mary Elizabeth Inabinett, was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct in November, according to CNN.

Inabinett’s lawyer says that Conway’s account of the incident is not accurate and that the facts will come out at the trial scheduled for March.

“Ms. Inabinett saw Kellyanne Conway, a public figure, in a public place, and exercised her First Amendment right to express her personal opinions. She did not assault Ms. Conway. The facts at trial will show this to be true, and show Ms. Conway’s account to be false,” Inabinett’s lawyer William Alden McDaniel Jr. said in a statement according to CNN.

Conway claims her daughter had taken video of at least part of the incident.

Conway is the latest Trump administration figure to face backlash while at a restaurant with her family. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was kicked out of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, in June by the owner because of her work for President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was the subject of a rude verbal assault while dining at a D.C. area Mexican Restaurant.

Prominent conservative activist Candace Owens was also chased out of a restaurant by troubled anti-Trumpers last year.

These sorts of attacks follow a public appearance by Rep. Maxine Waters in which she told her followers: “if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
