Fox News Channel’s ‘Scandalous’ returns with documentary on the Chappaquiddick Incident

FOX News Channel (FNC) will present the season premiere of Scandalous: Chappaquiddick, a four-week-long historical documentary series narrated by acclaimed actor Bruce McGill on Sunday, December 2nd at 8 PM/ET.

“The women were driven to Chappaquiddick Island, and then to the beach,” Anthony Marro says in the documentary. “They crossed over the 81 foot long, one lane Dike Bridge.”

The next morning, everything changed for the tiny island of Chappaquiddick.

“Half a mile away were the town offices where employees of the Edgartown Police Department arrived at work, including the Chief of Police Dominic Arena,” Leslie Leland said.

Steve Ewing added that: “Arena had just settled in at about 8:30 am when the phone rang – a call that would turn the small-town police chief’s life upside down.

This second season will spotlight the personal tragedy and political drama that enveloped the United States in the summer of 1969, turning the island of “Chappaquiddick” into a household name. The program will chronicle the perspective of many of those involved, along with the journalists who covered the puzzling accident that left the political career of the late Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy tarnished and led to the death of campaign strategist Mary Jo Kopechne.

The Chappaquiddick incident, a single-vehicle car accident which occurred on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts on Friday, July 18, 1969, was a late-night accident caused by Senator Ted Kennedy’s negligence which resulted in the death of his 28-year-old passenger Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy drove the car off a single-lane bridge into the water, swam away and left Kopechne to die. Kennedy received only a 2-month suspended sentence for his role in Kopechne’s death.

Through archival footage, records and never-before-seen photos, the series will revisit the daily twists and turns of the drama that first captivated the world nearly 50 years ago. In addition to airing on FNC, special director cuts of the series will be available on FOX Nation.
