TV hosts claim Reagan’s popularity based on his liberalism

The man liberals called everything but a son of God a generation ago is now being described in much different terms.
Ronald Reagan, found on countless short lists of the nation’s greatest presidents, was notoriously unpopular among the left during his two terms and the accompanying economic prosperity his policies nurtured.
Called a heartless capitalist, war-hungry tyrant, and much worse by his detractors at the time, today’s left seeks to claim him as one of their own in light of his consistently high popularity.
When asked to compare the two, polling suggests Americans much prefer the principled leadership of Reagan to Obama’s shameless campaigning.
When confronted with one such poll, the famously hard-hitting broadcasters of NBC’s Today Show chose to respond by implying Reagan wasn’t extreme enough for today’s political conservative.
Nearly three-fifths of respondents said they would vote for Reagan over Obama and three-fourths feel the nation was better off under Reagan.
Finding it physically impossible to credit conservative values for anything positive, the morning show hosts did what leftists often do: they changed the meaning.
Weatherman Al Roker, whose inauspicious defecation while inside the White House apparently makes him an expert, claimed the Gipper “probably would be seen almost liberally today as opposed to being conservative.”
Insightful co-host Natalie Morales chimed in, “Totally.”
Other on-air personalities joined in the tangential conversation, which offered no evidence supporting their claims short of Roker’s conclusion, “things have shifted.”
Giving them an enormous – and undeserved – benefit of doubt, even if their hypothesis is correct, Reagan is by any measure to the right of Obama. Even calling Reagan a liberal (which was a difficult phrase to type), Americans still prefer his much more traditional views to the extreme leftism embraced by our current leaders.
Peace through strength, lower taxes, and a strong defense of capitalism are three overarching themes that defined Reagan and, in a broader sense, America in the 1980s.
Now the political wing arguing ad nauseam for the exact opposite chooses to rewrite history to claim a president most Americans prefer to the current president.
The left, which has a controlling interest in both education and the media, is quite able to change the nation’s perception of people and events over time. The only thing they seem unable to do is report what really happened.
