Active Shooter Reported at D.C. Navy Yard
**Final – update – all clear, nothing to see here **
It is being reported that the D.C. Navy Yard is in lock down due to an active shooter. This is the same location as the shooting on September 16, 2013 and comes amid fears of active terrorist cells targeting Independence Day weekend.
Police and Homeland Security officers swarmed the yard, locked it down and swept for what was reported to have been an active shooter.
The initial report to 911 was that gunshots had been heard. Police interviewed the person making the initial report and deemed that the person had heard something that they thought was gun shots.
No trace of a shooter or gunfire was located and the lock-down was lifted.
No explanation for the gunshot sounds has been offered.
