WuT? Biden Admin to Increase Imports of Baby Formula after Shutting Domestic Production

In a move similar to its energy policy, the Biden administration is easing rules on imports of baby formula from foreign nations just months after shutting down domestic manufacturing.

“The need to diversify and strengthen the U.S. infant formula supply is more important than ever. The recent shutdown of a major infant formula plant, compounded by unforeseen natural weather events, has shown just how vulnerable the supply chain has become,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf and Susan Mayne, director of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, said in a statement.

Just like energy, the United States was producing more formula than it needed before the Biden administration started restricting production in early 2022. Now, mothers are frantically searching for food for their infants thanks to the White House.

That food will increasingly come from manufacturers overseas due to the Biden administration’s failures.

“Many of the companies providing these formula products have expressed interest in continuing to serve the American market permanently. For some companies, the agency’s flexibility has resulted in their ability to use a greater breadth of their existing, global manufacturing footprint, creating more resiliency in the U.S. infant formula supply chain and reducing the risk of reliance on too few production facilities supporting the United States,” Califf and Mayne said.

But American mothers would rather have their baby’s food made here.

“I don’t want food for my baby to come from China,” Sylvia Cortes, a mother of three, said. “Their products aren’t very reliable and I want American made food for my baby.”

“My children are grown now, and I breastfed mine with only occasional formula use. Now, foreign food seems to be the only option for new mothers even though the stuff from overseas just isn’t very good,” Marisa, a mother of two, told CDN. “I wouldn’t use it.”

The only reason the importation of baby formula is required is due to a ham-handed shutdown of the U.S. baby formula manufacturing base and a lackluster response to the shortage by the current administration.
