The Incredible Donald Trump

Despite the burdens he carries from the unwarranted legal action against him, he continues to try to save the country.

Donald Trump will be the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States. This is truly remarkable. Fighting forceful headwinds, Trump was able to gain the support of his party. According to the polls, if the election was held today, he would easily win.

He says he wants to restore America toward a more balanced conservative position. Most of his views seem to resonate with the public.

We can recall what America was like during the Trump years. Despite very forceful headwinds caused by the opposing political party, Trump was able to implement policies that resulted in America prospering and feeling secure.

Internationally he let Putin know America would not tolerate any further Russian aggression, like what occurred in the Ukraine during the prior administration. Russia responded by refraining from military action during Trump’s entire term.

Iran was being choked economically and by late 2020, their economy was on the verge of complete collapse. Iran did not fund any proxy organizations during the Trump presidency. The rest of the Middle East was reasonably peaceful with the Abraham Accords being signed.

Trump confronted China and let them know their methods would no longer be tolerated. Trump told Korea to stop firing any more missiles, so they stopped.

Afghanistan was at a standstill. Trump brought home most of the troops but left a small 2500-person force. He told the Taliban not to hurt any Americans. For the last 18 months of his term, no Americans were hurt.

On the economy, he claimed it was “the best we have ever had.” Even if that is a slight exaggeration, when he left office the inflation rate was at 1.4%, and despite the ill-advised lockdown, the economy under Trump bounced back with a much-celebrated V-shaped recovery. Just before the pandemic struck, it looked like 2020 would see GDP growth of 4%.

The economy was good, and people were prospering. This was just before the social agenda had such a large, and negative, impact on the economy.

On the issue of a woman’s right to choose, his conservative position was a minority view. Trump, like the entire Republican Party, will have to adapt. Trump now seems to favor 15 weeks to allow non-medical abortions, as a compromise position.

He is less tolerant than the current administration when it comes to the issue of crime.

The incredible part is that Trump can campaign with a tremendous weight on his shoulders. I believe if reasonable people examine what is happening to him in the courts, the conclusion would be that all the charges against him are unwarranted. Some charges are ridiculous.

What is happening to Trump in New York, for an action that resulted in no crime and no damages to either party, could result in him losing much of what he has worked decades to create. Just the weight of that on any shoulder would take an incredible man to bear.

Trump spends many days in court listening to people say horrible things about him. He sees most of the mainstream media reporting on him negatively more than 90% of the time. With these burdens, he continues to campaign rigorously. He holds very well-attended rallies as often as he can.

Trump must be having a difficult time planning his campaign with his opposition continuing to use the courts to distract him.

Yet poll after poll shows the growing acceptance of his policies. Despite the burdens he carries he is gaining in popularity.

He is, however, human, and, like all of us, there are flaws. Perhaps his largest flaw is the way he expresses himself when he speaks. We know he is not a seasoned politician and has some of that New York brashness, so he doesn’t speak with political correctness.

In business, it is very common for people to ask an associate to “do me a favor.” As President, those four words got him impeached. He carries that burden too.

Often, I find myself cringing when Trump speaks. Sometimes I scratch my head wondering why Trump said anything when the issue was resolved. Many times, he seems to put his foot in his mouth for no apparent reason.

As a child, my mother always said to me, “You have to take the good, with the bad.”

In the case of Donald Trump, the good for America far outweighs any personal bad.

I believe history will record Trump as an incredible man. Against all odds he prevailed. It turned out that what he accomplished was exactly what America needed. The inflation problem went away, Americans felt more secure, and prosperity returned.

And, indeed, that is incredible.
