Last night in Montreal, Quebec, Canada during the live broadcast of WWE’s professional wrestling program “Monday Night Raw”, wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a heart attack as he was providing commentary for the live television program.  Viewers at home had virtually no knowledge of what was going on until fellow WWE commentator Michael Cole informed viewers of what had happened. (In video below, Skip to 10 second mark)

Sources familiar with the situation have reported that the EMT crew backstage saved Lawler’s life.  Reports from people backstage say that Lawler was fortunate that this happened at a WWE event, due to the access to medical personnel that WWE keeps on hand.

World Wrestling Entertainment – better known as WWE – is owned by Vince McMahon, whose wife Linda McMahon is the 2012 Republican Candidate for US Senate in Connecticut.

When the heart attack happened, there was a tag-team match in progress.  There was some commotion visible at ringside, and a seemingly random “Jerry!  Jerry!” chant from the fans in the arena, but the WWE camera crew and kept the events off of television.

During the live broadcast, the only indication that anything was wrong was a ‘snoring’ sound by Lawler on his microphone as he was trying to breathe, and a very quick view of him in the background hanging on to the announce table as he collapsed to the floor.

There are, however, a number of videos taken by fans in attendance that show EMT personnel carrying Lawler out of the arena on a stretcher.  However, CDN has chosen not to include these.

Jerry Lawler’s career has spanned over 40 years and includes many memorable moments – including the feud with comedian Andy Kaufman in 1982 that culminated with a match between the two, and subsequent appearance on ‘Late Night With David Letterman’ that resulted in Lawler slapping Kaufman, and Kaufman dousing Lawler in coffee and using some “salty” language.
