WASHINGTON, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – Lower immigration levels, population aging, and declining fertility rates are driving a decline in U.S. population growth, according to a new Population Reference Bureau (PRB) analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data.

Between 2010 and 2011, the U.S. population increased by 0.7 percent, after averaging 0.9 percent growth each year from 2000 through 2010, reported Mark Mather, PRB associate vice president for Domestic Programs. We added just 2.3 million people from 2010 to 2011, compared with 2.9 million from 2005 to 2006, just five years earlier.

The current decline is a “significant departure” from recent trends but “it’s too soon to tell whether it will continue or is a short-term result of the recession,” he said.

The U.S. population is currently projected to reach “majority-minority” status (the point at which less than 50 percent of the population is non-Hispanic white) in 2042. But a sustained drop in immigration levels and fertility rates would slow the pace of minority population growth.

Drop in Immigration: Between 2010 and 2011, net migration was estimated at around 700,000, down from 1.4 million per year in 2000 and 2001. This decline contributes to slower growth in the Latino and Asian American populations, and has been linked to job losses in occupations often filled by recent immigrants, as well as stricter immigration law enforcement.

Population Aging: Between 2010 and 2011, the number of children declined by 190,000, while the number of elderly increased by 917,000; just a decade ago we added more children than elderly. Also down sharply is growth in the number of working-age adults, including those in prime childbearing ages. With more baby boomers retiring and fewer people of reproductive age, births could decline further, and the United States could start to resemble elderly-heavy, slow-growth European countries, Mather noted.

Declining Fertility Rates: There were an estimated 4 million births between 2010 and 2011, down from 4.2 million at the recent peak of U.S. population growth between 2005 and 2006. The total fertility rate (TFR) stood at an average of 2.0 lifetime births per woman in 2009—down from 2.1 a few years ago—but preliminary data from the National Center for Health Statistics suggest that the TFR could drop below 2 births per woman in 2010. Births among Latina women, a group with historically high fertility rates, could drop below 2.5 per woman in the near future.

As we start a new year some thoughts come to me from something my pastor’s wife said Sunday morning, January 1, 2012. She recently did a study on the number 12 and its significance in Scripture. It reminded me of the deep importance of God in the development of our nation and the importance of God in the coming year. This is what she said:

In the Bible “12″ represents God’s perfect government and Divine authority. To write “12″ in Hebrew two Hebrew letters are used … “yod” which signifies hand or outworking and “beth” which signifies house. “The outworking of the household in harmony under Divine authority.” I am claiming this for each household and our house of worship that we will see God’s authority extended to our territory from our homes and churches.

OH YEAH! AMEN!

Before I started my writing career 18 months ago, I was inspired by a series of documentaries I watched about the founding of our nation and how our founding fathers placed so much importance on Divine Providence. I saw how their faith in God and their devotion to Biblical principles guided them in their pursuit of liberty and freedom for all, not just the wealthy, elite group in which most of them belonged.

Our nation was founded by men who believed in God very strongly and prayed every step of the way; through the years of protesting to King George of England about their grievances; through the horrible years of the Revolutionary War when death, suffering, fear, and want were the order of the day; then through the 11 years it took to actually form a nation, write the Constitution of the United States of America, and have it ratified by the various states.

Those in charge of government, both political parties, vote into law legislation they don’t read. And frankly, they don’t know or care what it says. And then we have the endless array of bureaucrats who justify their jobs by adding to the endless stream of tyrannical rules we are expected to follow, followed up by judges who rule according to their atheistic agenda rather than according to the Constitution.

We have a president who is not constitutionally eligible to serve, yet both parties ignore the Constitution because it is easier to do that than stand up and do what is right. We have state elected officials who ignore the Constitution of the United States, as well as their state Constitution because these documents get in the way of their personal or political party agendas. We have cronyism more blatant than ever before in my life time, total disregard for the citizens of this nation, total disregard for the laws of this nation, and a situation that seems can only be resolved by armed conflict ala 1776. There is another way.

There is an old saying I have heard since I was a small child:

“it is always darkest just before the dawn”.

I have spent many cold dark mornings sitting in a tree waiting for some of Bambi’s family to come strolling into my line of fire and I can vouch for that old saying. As night begins to turn into day it really does seem to get darker and colder for that last hour or so of night. Starlight seems to dim and the night gets so dark I can’t see my hands in front of my face for what seems like a very long period of time.

Then suddenly, I see a twinkling of light, followed by another, and another, until the eastern sky behind me begins to slowly brighten, just a little at a time. Then shadows begin to appear a few at a time. The tree branches seem to take on different shapes as the shadows begin to form and the woods slowly come alive with the sound of squirrels rousting from their nests to go in search of breakfast. I hear birds begin to rustle in their nests and start to chirp; first one, then two, then more as the light begins to creep in and another morning breaks.

I believe 2011 was the darkest hour before the dawn. So many bad things happened in 2011 that it is easy to get discouraged, to become fearful of the future. The year was so dark with the activities of Barack Obama and the Democrat Party, activities that are totally counter to the Constitution, freedom, and our way of life. The Republican Party was no help either, but rather added to the dismay and the darkness. The 87 TEA Party freshmen members of the House of Representatives seemed to buckle at every turn and become part of the problem instead of part of the solution to the problem.

The National Defense Authorization Act (S. 1867/HR 1540) was passed at the last minute and then the two biggest supporters of it came out and casually announced they had no idea what was included in the legislation. “Sodomy and Bestiality are no longer against the rules for our military? The president can order American citizens missing fingers or stocking up on food held without charge indefinitely? I didn’t know that was in there.” We heard that from those “staunch conservatives”, Lindsey Graham and John McCain. Ron Paul, the darling of the “Libertarians”, says Iran should have nukes and that Israel is the root of all evil and isn’t worth our time and money to defend. The national debt that Obama, and the Republicans in Congress, pledged to diminish was instead raised by $2.4 trillion. Mitt Romney, the darling of the Republican establishment, has more positions than a symphony orchestra on any issue you can name. The rest of the candidates aren’t much better. Need I go on or would that depress you even more?

Today we look at a new year fraught with danger yet full of hope. We have elections in November that, if allowed to occur by our benevolent rulers, will determine the difference between a life of freedom and a life of tyranny for We the people. I wrote an article on this subject a couple of months ago in which I listed many of the things that have been done in the name of freedom but actually were done to take our freedom from us. I urged people to take a good look around them and to see what is happening. I have written many times about the issues facing the future freedom of We the People and what we need to do to remedy the problems. I am not politically partisan in my writing. I write truth, not party spin.

Most of our problems go much deeper than government abuse. The problems with government cannot be solved by man alone. God’s hand was prominent in the creation of this great and mighty nation, God’s hand has been prominent in the preservation of this nation, and God’s hand must be prominent in the future of this nation if it is to prosper once again. We as a nation have turned from God and accepted so many things that go against His Word. I remember a prayer given at the beginning of a State of Kansas legislative session a few years ago. I don’t remember all of it but the minister spoke of accepting sin by calling it all kinds of politically correct names. We must turn our eyes back to what made this nation great and acknowledge what has driven this nation to the brink of destruction.

I am encouraged by what I see, hear, and read on the many conservative social network sites I belong to. I am encouraged by the responses to items like this that I write. Even when I write about the bad things happening, I see people who are as outraged as I am and are willing to stand up and do something about it. I see people acknowledging God and His part in our nation. I see people who will pray, as we all need to do, but also stand and act on the promises of God for our lives and our nation. I am encouraged by God’s inspiration in my writing, in my life, and in my nation despite my failings and my sin. I wake up each day with a fresh start and a new grace to live through the day with. All of us have this grace, all we have to do is accept it and act upon it.

In Scripture, 12 is the number of God’s hand on our houses. This revelation gives me hope for this year, 2012, the year God will reach out to us in a way we have not seen before in our lifetimes. All we have to do is reach our hands back to God, accept that divine authority, and work within it to restore our nation. We can’t solve the problems of our nation from the top down, it must be from the bottom up. We can live on trickle down economics but we prosper on trickle up faith. We start with ourselves, move up to our household, then up to our community, our state, and finally our nation. It is each one of us accepting God’s forgiving grace and using the opportunity to make ourselves better first and expanding that improvement into an ever enlarging sphere of influence until it permeates our entire nation and we can once again be that “shining city on a hill” described by John Winthrop in the 1700’s.

This year, 2012, is a year that can turn our nation around if we will step up and do it. It CAN be done and WE can do it. No movement starts with a crowd, but with an idea one person is willing to act upon. This idea becomes known and accepted by another person, then another, then another, until it becomes a movement. The TEA Party is such a movement. It is a concept, coined in a phrase by one man, that has become a concept embraced by 67% of We the People. It is a concept grounded in Godly principles and the acknowledgement that freedom isn’t free and We the people have to stand up for the values that established this nation and made it great.

We are God’s agents in this world and we must operate accordingly. We must seek guidance through prayer and have the courage to act on that guidance when the enemy, both spiritual and physical, comes against us. For too many years Christians have sat back and let evil take control of our nation because we were too complacent or too fearful to fight that evil. We have left it to others to fight our fight and they have not done so. Those we depended on to fight our battles for us have become part of the evil that we are fighting.

This year is the year we have unprecedented help available to us. We can use 2012, the year of “yod beth”, to restore America to what God and our founding fathers established. It is time for us to take up the full armor of God and restore the United States of America to what is once was and what it can be again. If we do not have faith, and the courage of our faith, to fight this battle then our freedoms will be lost forever. It is up to me. It is up to you. It is up to each American citizen to do their part for freedom. Pray, repent, and act; future generations are depending on us.

I submit this in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, in faith, with the responsibility given to me by Almighty God to honor His work and not let it die from neglect.

Why are the main stream media, and even “conservative” media, ignoring the story about John Dummett and the Liberty Legal Foundation in their suit against the Democrat Party over the certification of Barack Obama as an eligible presidential candidate? Why are we, instead, talking about the latest “bimbo eruption” that seems to have no real basis in fact?

John Dummett is a registered, eligible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination for the 2012 elections. He is recognized in all 50 states and by the Federal Election Commission. He and Van Irions of the Liberty Legal Foundation are trying to save a nation from a despot who should never have been on the ballot in the first place. The media that are supposed to be on our side, the side of We the People, ignore the most important development in the “nullification” movement. This case has moved far beyond any other attempt. The reason is the context of the lawsuit. I am not going to go into all of the details here but you can go to this link and find all the details you want to read.

The question being raised by this lawsuit is not the “birth certificate issue” but instead targets the citizenship of Obama’s father. I understand why the main stream media doesn’t cover it, they are the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party, of that there is no doubt. What I don’t understand is the “conservative” media remaining silent on this matter. It is a legitimate story with serious consequences to the future of our nation. Yet, even they focus on whether Herman Cain is handling his “bimbo circus” properly.

The point of this article isn’t the legal ramifications and “legalese” of the eligibility issue. My focus is on the lack of reporting on a serious issue in favor of a negative fluff thing with no solid basis. As I stated, I understand the main stream media not covering this because it will effectively remove their “messiah” from the scene and undo everything he has done.

The “conservative” media and the other Republican candidates say nothing, and when asked anything about Obama’s eligibility status shrug it off as nothing but a bunch of “nuts” or “birthers”. It would seem they are afraid of the race card, or just don’t care about the Constitution. I wonder if the 9th Circuit Court, the most liberal in the nation, are “racists, nuts, and birthers” also. They are the ones who said John could pursue this after courts have turned down a dozen or more attempts by others.

Why do the media and talking heads on the “right” spend all of their time trashing any but the most liberal in the Republican Party? They talk about how bad we need a candidate who can beat Obama and then push the most liberal Republican they can find. That tactic worked out well in 2008 didn’t it? The media, those who are supposed to be on our side, completely ignore the issue, and the man, who just might take Obama down; and has certainly gone farther than anyone else ever has. Is that not newsworthy?
Whether or not the media personnel agree with John Dummett is immaterial, they should report the story. What WE the People have available to us in the way of truthful reporting is the internet and blog radio. We must spread the message of this matter and force the media to cover it. The Constitution is in danger of being rendered irrelevant, and those who talk of how they are the “watchdogs” of government are asleep on guard duty. That is a court-martial offense in the military, but standard operating procedures in the press.

The future of America is at stake and those who pledge to inform us objectively and fairly only cover what is “politically correct”. Covering the Cain non-story deflects attention from matters much more serious. Are the “conservative” talking heads really interested in We the People or are they more concerned with their face time on network television? Who is setting the agenda for the “conservative” media? The fate of our nation doesn’t seem to too high on their list of important matters.

It seems to me as if the television network talking heads on the” right” are more interested in keeping the status quo than they are in finding the truth about the eligibility question. Are they doing the job of the “Third Rail”, or are they merely securing their face time by insuring that people like John Dummett, a down home conservative-to-the-bone patriot, are never heard in public?

I would think that these media people would be happy to see true conservatives step up to save our nation, someone putting their life on hold to make a difference. What we see in actuality is media support for professional politicians and the super wealthy who can afford to spend months travelling around the country campaigning, without acknowledging what could be the most important issue we face today.

It seems to me that those media people, the ones “on our side” who have national exposure, are so concerned with their future income that the truth can go by the wayside so they don’t really have to stick their necks out. As soon as any “conservative” commentator with national exposure stands up for the truth in this matter they will be pilloried and they aren’t willing to take that kind of heat. The race card, as lame as it is, will come out against them from the left and their cohorts on the “right”. Since none of them want to be the object of this derision from their peers they remain silent.

Our nation faces a danger more perilous than even World War II. We find our own government trying to subjugate us and those media people who are supposed to be protecting us with the truth wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them in the face. The “right wing” media is nothing but the propaganda arm of the Ivy League Republican Party establishment. And I don’t mean the party of Reagan, as such is no longer the case. The Republican Party has been inundated with Democrats, politicians and media personnel.

These Democrats, like Rick Perry of Texas, ran from their party when the Marxists began taking over instead of staying and fighting for their party. Others changed over when they saw the pendulum swinging back towards the Republican Party, and rather than be on the outside they decided to “change” parties for the “hope” of acceptance and a lofty position due to their “change of heart”. They didn’t have a change of heart, they had a case of political opportunism and it worked perfectly. We now see the party of Reagan turned into the party of Democrat cowards who ran from one fight and are now running from another one but taking conservatives with them down the road to tyranny and despotism.

Where is the courage in the “conservative” media? Where are the Republican “strategists” and “analysts” who will stand up for We the People, the 67% who call ourselves TEA Party conservatives? Where are the strategists and analysts who have the courage to stand up for the truth? Where are the conservative media people with the courage to take the story of a common man sticking his neck out to save a nation?

It is up to WE the People to spread the word of freedom and truth throughout the land. We cannot count on any media people to help, it is up to us alone. If we will have the courage shown by John Dummett and Van Irions, we can overcome a media biased against us.
The internet and blog-o-sphere are large enough and popular enough that we can spread this message to all corners of our nation. If you will take the time to look at the case being presented, you will see the possibilities. Don’t buy into the hype that it isn’t possible, that is the defeatist attitude the party machines want you to have. Some people in George Washington’s day thought what they were doing was impossible too, but these people forged the freest and most prosperous nation ever seen on this earth.

It is up to us, We the People of These United States, to insure the future freedom of America. It is up to us to stand up and support those like John Dummett and Van Irions, men who will stick their necks out and speak truth when it would be easier to be silent.

Where is the courage in the media to tell the truth about this issue, or any other issue for that matter? Political expediency and political correctness are combining to destroy our nation. The internet and the blog-o-sphere are our source of the truth, not television talk shows. Until the media gets over their egos and begins to put the truth and the best interests of our nation first we will find ourselves going down the path to the total extinction of our freedoms.

I submit this in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, in faith, with the responsibility given to me by Almighty God To honor His work and not let it die from neglect.

Married To The Game is a new show and part of the CDN family that’s designed to be a “safe” place to discuss politics without worrying about the typical conservative litmus tests. The words “RINO” and “true conservative” are not used here. Instead, we focus on news and solutions for problems in an open and honest manner. If you’ve refrained from listening to political talk radio, because you’re tired of hearing the same positions ad nauseam, then Married To The Game might be for you. And… did we mention it airs on Saturday nights? Be sure to tune in starting at 10pm (East) and 7pm (West) on Saturday nights, and feel free to call in to make sure your voice is being heard. Be sure to check out the sample below.

Yesterday, a fellow CDN writer told you that our State Department had spent about $70,000 on copies of Barack Obama’s book, “Dreams of My Father”. What do I think about that? I think it’s GREAT. I’m laughing so hard I could cry as I think about it, and I’ll tell you why…

From what I can tell, these books were bought for our U.S. embassies that we have scattered across the globe. I decided to google “Do U.S. embassies have books?” in an effort to understand why we would be purchasing copies of Obama’s memoir for them. It turns out that we have libraries in some of these things (embassies). Below is a picture of what I found on one of the embassies in India’s website.

So it turns out that we have books (and libraries) in our embassies across the world. As I thought of this, I had a somewhat evil idea cross my mind. See… there are nearly 7 billion people on earth, and only 300 million of them are from the United States. The rest (over 6 billion) are from various nations and continents. And as crazy as it might sound, a lot of people on this earth don’t have the greatest appreciation for the United States, Anglo-Saxons, or anything that looks like colonialism. As it turns out, they do, however, have an appreciation for an American President (with a Kenyan father) who grew up in Indonesia.

It crossed my mind that Obama’s book, “Dreams of My Father”, might actually be a brilliant marketing tool to have in our embassies. And… it can even have a “Walt Disney effect”. When you go to Disney Land, you can go to the gift store and (I assume) find a book that details how awesome Disney was, and it gives you a reason to feel like his amusement park was a good thing. So… I imagine it helps us to have books in our embassies that feature a guy who doesn’t even seem to like America as our president. Obama’s life story and his disposition towards America send a subliminal message to other countries. I’m not sure that it’s one that *I* particularly appreciate, but it’s one that might resonate with young people in other parts of the world. Basically, his book (which really “seems” to hate white people) might ultimately do us a favor in some of our foreign embassies. I could be wrong, but it seems like having these books at American embassies might actually help us.

So before we decry the spending of $70,000 (of our hard earned tax money) on some crappy books, we should ask ourselves… “Could this actually help us in the long run? Could it be useful to have foreigners read a book that illustrates how an ‘America-hater’ became the leader of the greatest country on earth?”.

What do you guys think? Is $70,000 even enough money to worry about? Or is it absolutely absurd that tax money should be used to purchase books written by our president? Or… is this much to do about nothing? Let us know in the comments below. Or you can tell us on Facebook. We’re pretty flexible like that.

Thursday night, September 22, 2011, during the GOP debates presented on Fox News by Google, Romney stated that he would direct his Secretary of Health to exempt all 50 States (at least he knew there were not 57) from Obama Care. Let us look at that for a minute.

Executive orders, as outlined in my previous article, “Executive Orders,” cannot override any law Congress has made. http://conservativedailynews.com/2011/08/executive-orders-how-do-they-affect-our-country// They can only direct Executive Department agencies on how to implement policies. Romney’s statement would be in line with this requirement, however, any successive President would be able to rescind his Executive Order and re-instate Obama Care.

The only real way to get rid of this abomination of the Constitution would be for Congress to enact a law eliminating it, or for SCOTUS to declare it Unconstitutional.

Romney is disingenuous as a Presidential Candidate for the GOP. His statements expose him as the candidate that the establishment wants the people to choose. He has a great smile and nice hair. I think these are the only two qualities that make him viable as a candidate.

That being said, if he is chosen as the GOP candidate for the Office of the Presidency of theUnited States, I will hold my nose while voting for him (ABO) and then proceed to vomit.

The Administration and members of Congress had held the specter of a credit rating downgrade over the heads of Americans. If a debt deal is not reached, the nation’s good credit would be damaged said several government leaders. On Friday, Standard and Poor’s (S&P) downgraded the United States’ rating from AAA to AA-plus on concerns about growing budget deficits.

The downgrade reflects our opinion that the fiscal consolidation plan that Congress and the Administration recently agreed to falls short of what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the government’s medium-term debt dynamics.

Despite attacks by Republicans and Democrats, Congressional Conservatives held out for a deal that would actually trim the nation’s debt. President Obama pushed for the compromise deal that instead, actually increases the amount of publicly held debt every year for the next decade. S&P said that the deal did not do near enough to prove fiscal responsibility and took the downgrade action.

U.S. Treasury securities have long been sought as the safest investments in the world. Now, the government bonds of the U.K., Germany, Canada and even France are rated higher than those from the U.S.

S&P also set the outlook of the new credit rating to negative, a signal that another downgrade could be coming within the next 18 months if the government does not get serious about trimming the national debt.

The outlook on the long-term rating is negative. We could lower the long-term rating to ‘AA’ within the next two years if we see that less reduction in spending than agreed to, higher interest rates, or new fiscal pressures during the period result in a higher general government debt trajectory than we currently assume in our base case.

The S&P press release also noted a key difference between the U.S. and the remaining AAA-rated nations – while America’s debt will increase in the next 3-5 years, their debt-to-GDP ratios are going down [emphasis added].

By 2015, we project that their net public debt to GDP ratios will range between 30% (lowest, Canada) and 83% (highest, France), with the U.S. debt burden at 79%. However, in contrast with the U.S., we project that the net public debt burdens of these other sovereigns will begin to decline, either before or by 2015.

In response to the credit rating agency’s downgrade, Democrats are using intimidation to get S&P to change the rating. Congressional Democrats are threatening investigations into S&P’s inner-workings. Some are even asking for more spending to remedy the current over-spending situation.

Congressional Conservatives are taking a different approach by pushing again for more cuts in spending, removing the regulations that are forcing American businesses overseas and getting the economy going again. Sen. Jim Demint has also requested the resignation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geihtner stating that the secretary has failed the country.

“For months he opposed all efforts to reduce the debt in return for a debt ceiling increase. His opposition to serious spending and debt reforms has been reckless and now the American people will pay the price.”

Commentary from the Obama administration focuses blame on the process by which the compromise solution was passed. But, had the Obama administration’s first plan – a debt ceiling increase with no spending reductions at all – gone through, the S&P downgrade would have been joined by negative ratings by Fitch and Moody’s.

Indiana’s State Treasurer also said that the Administration handled the debt ceiling poorly by failing to act with any fiscal responsibility whatsoever.

This downgrade is the direct result of raising the debt limit on Tuesday, August 2, without providing for substantive cuts in spending. The White House and many in Congress failed in their jobs by settling for a political compromise rather than seeking a fiscal resolution.

Much like Obamacare, the legislation pushed by the Administgration to supposedly deal with an impending crisis is instead exacerbating the underlying problem.

For decades Americans have been battered with messages around the demise of the United States manufacturing sector. Some state concerns of too much of a shift to services, which is said to produce nothing. Is goods manufacturing really fading in the U.S.?

IHS Global Insight, an economics consulting firm, has published a ranking of the manufacturing output of the leading economies, and to my surprise, the U.S. still manufactures more stuff than anyone else — $1.7 trillion in manufacturing value added in 2009, compared to $1.3 trillion from China.

The IHS report makes two assertions. First that the American Manufacturing sector is in decline from the perspective of portion of GDP and total economic output. And second, that China is increasing it’s economic output from both of those perspectives.

In 2009, the United States economy was held up, in part, by $1.7 Trillion (with a T) in manufacturing output. By comparison, China’s economy was supported by $1.3 Trillion in ouput. What may be more important is to understand what percentage of the Chinese economy is based on just building cute trinkets for Americans and Europeans to buy.

While manufacturing makes up only 25% of the U.S. economy, the Chinese economy is largely based upon non-technical manufacturing – raw materials and dolls, cups, trinkets and other junk. According to Wikipedia:

Industry and construction account for 46.8% of China’s GDP. Around 8% of the total manufacturing output in the world comes from China itself. Major industries include mining and ore processing; iron and steel; aluminium; coal; machinery; armaments; textiles and apparel; petroleum; cement; chemical; fertilizers; food processing; automobiles and other transportation equipment including rail cars and locomotives, ships, and aircraft; consumer products including footwear, toys, and electronics; telecommunications and information technology. China has become a preferred destination for the relocation of global manufacturing facilities. Its strength as an export platform has contributed to incomes and employment in China. The state-owned sector still accounts for about 30% of GDP.

Why is Chinese goods production so low-tech? Perhaps it’s the lack of a mature service sector. The same service sector that many bemoan within the U.S. economy. A healthy service sector is absolutely required to produce highly complicated and technologically advanced goods. Stryfoam cups and plastic dolls do not require the sophisticated machinery nor the complicated logistics required to produce a Caterpillar earth mover, jet aircraft or other advanced goods. Where are the Chinese competitors to Caterpillar, Airbus and Boeing? These high-tech goodies have far higher price points and margins than drink coasters and cheap pens.

There is also the problem of accurately understanding the Chinese economy. True profits from up to 30% of the manufacturing sector are raked in by the government, not the private sector. Considering the government control of the Yuan, how true are the numbers reported from State Owned Enterprises (SOE’s).

China will have to build a highly-skilled service sector if it wants to compete with the U.S. There is evidence that they too realize this. The Chinese produced a three-step plan in the early 1980′s. The first two steps were to increase GDP by several times. The first step has been accomplished and the second is on track. Step three is to increase per-capita income by 1950. That will require more people to move into more complex manufacturing and services.

So while America is holding an advantage in the sophistication of our manufacturing, it appears China has a plan to build a competitive force in those areas as well. But, for now, the United States does indeed still the manufacturing leader of the world.

Under Bush, the United States was ranked as the 12th best place to live in the world. Barack has taken the reigns with a promise of increasing our status in the world. Well, similar to Saturday Night Live, the U.N. may believe he has done nothing to manage that.

This year, the U.N. says that the U.S. is 13th in the world behind Norway, Australia, Iceland, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Switzerland and Japan.

The rankings are published annually by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and ranks 182 countries on factors such as education, GDP, and life expectancy. The United States seems to have been bumped down a rank by … France which made a return to top of the list at number 8.

The report does not take into effect the global recession and is supposedly based on data from as far back as 2007. Why publish a report annually based on 2 year+ old data? Who knows, but they are the U.N.
