What Obama’s “Bulworth” Comment Shows About Us

Almost forgotten within the whirlwind of last week’s columns and news stories covering the Obama Administration’s scandals was a piece from The New York Times discussing the “onset of woes” he’s had to deal with. Various aides told The Times on, and off, the record how the President is doing all he can to make sure his second term agenda gets accomplished. They also mentioned how Obama is frustrated and “exasperated “with Washington, something which isn’t new to anyone who’s watched one of his news conferences.

The most telling comment in the piece is how Obama has talked about “going Bulworth” and just saying what he actually thinks. This is a reference to the Warren Beatty/Halle Berry film about a California senator who decides to tell everyone what he believes, no matter the consequences. The New York Post has taken it to mean Obama wants to come out and admit he’s a socialist, which the Bulworth character is. This could be true, but it also reveals a problem with our political system.

Politicians have a problem with being 100-percent honest. Big surprise, but a David Axelrod quote following the Bulworth revelation is even more telling. Axelrod told The Times, “But the reality is that while you want to be truthful, you want to be straightforward, you also want to be practical about whatever you’re saying.”

It’s not that politicians can’t tell the truth, it’s that they don’t think the public wants to know the truth.

The sad part is…they’re probably right.

More people would rather be told that things are “going to be okay,” instead of hearing the horrific reality of the situation.

The 2012 election is a perfect example of this. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were vilified for discussing the nation’s $16-trillion in debt. Columnists like Paul Krugman claimed the nation’s debt isn’t an issue, while Obama told David Letterman “we don’t have to worry about it short term.” Letterman asked only one follow up but that shouldn’t be surprising. He’s not Jake Tapper.

When Romney spoke his mind in the “infamous” 47-percent quote, he was said to “not represent all Americans” and to have “written off half the nation.” Obama, again, told Letterman about how he wanted to represent the “entire country,” but didn’t talk the substance of Romney’s quote, why he may have said it or the context.

Guaranteed: more people saw Obama make those comments than any of Romney’s speeches on the debt.

However, it’s not just Romney who was vilified. Ron Paul was called a “dangerous man” for some of his positions. A look at the jokes the late night talk show hosts said about Paul, shows they saw him more as a “crazy uncle” and not a real candidate. Now, Paul is a horrible messenger from time to time (see his Chris Kyle tweet and his September 11^th comment) but he’s at least willing to speak his mind and tell the truth. Something refreshing in politics.

As much as people claim to want the truth, the reality is much different. The truth hurts and people prefer “flowers and sunshine” to reality. There’s a difference between pointing out problems and solutions, and just telling people it will be okay. This is why politicians use double-speak and seem distance. A majority of people don’t want reality.

There is a way for conservatives and libertarians to break through this. Outreach. Real outreach, not the failed attempt of Project ORCA by Romney’s team during 2012. Get out in the community and be with people. See what they experience. Explain to them how freedom and liberty is important and show them how it can make their lives better. Support what Deneen Borelli and Wayne Dupree are doing in the Black community and what “True the Vote” is trying to do with the Hispanic community. Talk to friends. Engage them.

And keep politicians accountable. It’s not always pragmatic to change one’s mind. Sometimes it’s simply political. Get them to explain why they do what they do. Get them to tell the truth.

It’s the only way to prove Axelrod and his ilk wrong.

And to make sure Bulworth isn’t “just” a movie but reality.

Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation Rejects IRS Apology for their Abusive and Discriminatory Practices. Cites IRS for Unconstitutional Actions and Behavior

(Richmond, VA) – “The IRS Exempt Organizations unit has violated the sacred constitutional rights of some 75 Tea Party and Patriot groups that had applied for tax-exempt status between 2009 and 2012,” said Mark Daugherty, Chairman, Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation. “The Tea Party rejects the apology by Lois Lerner, Director, Exempt Organizations, for her department’s confirmed discrimination and illegal treatment against groups that have the words ‘Tea Party’ or ‘Patriots’ in their name,” declared Mr. Daugherty.

Mark Daugherty said, “This egregious behavior requires a full top-to-bottom investigation by the Inspector General of the operations and practices of the IRS Exempt Organizations unit. “Furthermore, The IRS agents, supervisors, and senior executives should be held accountable for their illegal actions.”

The Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation notes the abusive and overtly political behavior by the IRS during the Clinton administration when critics of President Clinton were subjected to tax audits.* “This cycle of IRS abuse and illegal behavior must be stopped,” said Mark Daugherty.

The Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation thanks the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) for advocating on behalf of 27 tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status, including tea party groups in Virginia.

“Several Tea Party groups in northern Virginia were discouraged from seeking tax-exempt status due to the chilling effects of the enhanced investigations by the IRS,” said Mark Daugherty. “In addition, the Shenandoah Valley Tea Party Patriots spent 26 months working through the tortuous tax-exempt process, and spent 235 hours to compile a 10-pound report measuring seven inches thick, to comply with a second-round of IRS information requests.”

Ron Wilcox, lead organizer of the Northern Va Tea Party, said, “We were discouraged from applying for tax exempt status because we knew the IRS was targeting the tea party groups for ‘special examination’ and ‘enforcement’.”

“The tea party groups targeted should also be reimbursed for the extra time and expense forced upon them in attempting to comply with these illegal, threatening mandates handed down against them by the IRS,” states Mr. Daugherty.

The Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation is a coalition of 46 independent Tea Party and patriot groups that stand for fiscal responsibility, constitutionally-limited government, and free market principles.

I received this message in an e-mail from The TEA Party Express and was appalled at what I read.

The Tea Party movement continues to fuel election upsets, while political talking heads continue to try and reject the strength of our message. With $17 trillion in debt, the Obamacare train wreck, and anemic economic growth, Americans are looking to elect leaders that are willing to swim against the current. Mark Sanford’s proven record of standing up for the taxpayer and reducing the size, cost, and intrusiveness of the federal government represent the conservative qualities voters are looking for in candidates.

This is both a victory for Mark Sanford and Tea Party grassroots activists in South Carolina’s first Congressional District. We are now looking to carry this momentum into the 2014 election cycle.

I thought this sounded odd and did some checking to make sure my instinct was on target. This is the same Mark Sanford who, as governor of South Carolina, essentially embezzled money from the taxpayers of his state to carry on an illicit affair with some Argentinian beauty. The fact that she is young enough to be his daughter is beside the point.

Sanford intentionally used state assets to travel to South America to carry on this affair. Regardless of how this is spun, he stole from WE the People. He paid a fine and reimbursed the state to buy off an ethics investigation, but only did so after getting caught and to just make it all go away. Oh, he apologized in his best Jimmy Swaggart “Ah have sinnnnnned!!!” song and dance tear party, paid a fine, reimbursed the state for PART of the money and all of a sudden everything is fine. NO, everything isn’t fine!!!!!!

I especially like the sentence about Sanford “standing up for the taxpayer and reducing the size, cost, and intrusiveness of the federal government”. The man is an adulterer who embezzled public funds to carry on the affair and only when he got caught did he “do the right thing”. Included in the message was a picture of Amy Kremer and Sanford.

I have a question for Ms. Kremer and the others who are so high on Sanford. What the hell are you people thinking????? Just who and what are you representing??? Isn’t embezzlement a crime?? I thought it was a felony. Shouldn’t that disqualify Sanford from public office??? This man has trampled on every value I thought the TEA Party stands for. I would like to hear Amy Kremer’s definitions of honesty, integrity, and morality.

The question of forgiving him for having an affair isn’t my business; that is for his wife and children to deal with. To forgive him for stealing funds from hard working taxpayers to fund such a thing is fine also, to a point, after punishment for his crime. I have no problem forgiving him for bad judgment but see no reason to put him right back into a position of trust and honor instead of a prison cell where I would be if I had stolen the same money. I wonder of Sanford’s wife trusts him as much as Amy Kremer does.

I saw a comment on one of the social network sites I belong to that if I am looking for a saint to run then to name one and the poster would support him/her. A SAINT?????? Mark Sanford is a far cry from a saint. This old worn out intimidation tactic of “he who is without sin cast the first stone” from supposed Christian conservatives in the Republican Party is as lame as the race card from the liberals. The man committed a crime against the trust of We the People. He used the public treasury as his personal piggy bank. No, Sanford is not anywhere near sainthood!!!

Do we no longer stand behind the values we claim to live by when it becomes politically expedient to throw them by the way side? So, “Mark Sanford is not as bad as his opponent” is the standard we are looking for now??? We should forgive him for all of his “bad decisions”, promote him, and give him our trust again??? I don’t think so!!!

Isn’t irrelevance and forgiveness the ploy the Democrat Party is doing right now in the Benghazi hearings circus, and formerly in the Fast & Furious “investigation”? Isn’t this the same rhetoric we got about Clinton and Lewinsky?? Isn’t this the same rhetoric we got on the Charles Rangel tax evasion, the Tim Geithner tax evasion???? Isn’t this the same attitude that we saw over the Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick incident???? Bless his heart; he said he was sorry, awwwwwwwwwww!!!!!

The TEA Party Express group, self-touted as being the largest of all the TEA groups, has now apparently bought into the ruling class political establishment attitude that “he might be a criminal but he is our criminal”. Are we no better than the Democrats; people who will do anything, tell any lie, break any law, destroy any moral value, cheat on anything that helps their cause??

How is our nation to return to our founding principles if those of us looking to get there throw those very principles away like this? Is defeating Democrats, who are a virtual mirror of the Republican establishment, so important that we will vote for an embezzler and adulterer because he “isn’t quite as bad” as the Democrat candidate? Oh, he cried and said he was sorry!!! Really???? Is this the best America can do??

I can’t go along with this surrender of values. If I toss everything that is important to me in the trash can to win an election what have I won? How would I have made this nation better by voting for a person as “flawed” as Sanford? He can’t apologize enough, can’t pay enough fines, and can’t promise enough for me to accept that he should not be in prison for his crime of embezzlement instead of sitting in the seat of government. He should never be allowed to hold any public office, EVER!!!!

If this is the standard now upheld by the majority of WE the People I have little hope for ever getting back to the honor and prestige America once held. We cannot restore America as “a shining city on a hill” by continually lowering our standards to keep just ahead of those who are joyfully descending into Hell. If a man who has no better moral and ethical standards than Mark Sanford is the standard bearer for the TEA Party Express and the conservative movement in America then our nation is lost. This is like jumping on the back of the bus and trying to claw our way to the front while the bus careens over the cliff of destruction. We cannot stop a perpetual slide into an abyss of partisan political games, and the loss of all moral political standards, by jumping on the back of the bus. Our only hope to stop the slide is to oppose it not help it.

To TEA Party Organization Leaders: Unite for Liberty

Leaders of TEA Party Organizations,

I have seen the different groups in the TEA Party family all working independently, or so it seems to me, on projects that are all very important. I know that one of the draws of the TEA Party is independence but the time has come that all of you must unite to fight the common enemy, an out of control government. Both political parties are unresponsive to the citizens and only getting worse. There are good conservatives in Congress but they are being beaten down one at a time by a machine that destroys anyone who refuses to bow to the “party loyalty first” crowd and their behind-the-scenes handlers.

The Republican Party “leadership” is in league with the most radical Democrats who have ever been in power. We are on the verge of losing our freedom because we continue to support those who have turned their backs on us time and again. Republicans have lied to us so many times I have lost track of the number. They have “investigated” time and gain yet have given us nothing but hand-wringing and excuses for the evil deeds of politicians of both parties. It is time to take drastic measures.

There are good men and women in Congress fighting for We the People but they need us behind them in a united front. TEA Party minded people make up much of the party but the Republican Party establishment is moving more towards pandering mode and ignoring us.

After the 2010 mid-term elections John Boehner, who sat in the Speaker’s chair because of us, said the TEA Party played a very minor role in the record setting landslide elections at the federal, state, and local levels. After the “moderate candidate” disaster in 2012 the same John Boehner blamed the TEA Party for the losses. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, among others, continually attack those who speak for us, and the McConnell/Boehner “quick, run up the white flag we will fight another day” way of doing things is unacceptable yet we accept it. We are the enemy to them, not their allies. They use us like Democrats use the welfare state. We can do better.

I wrote a blog article that I hope the leadership of all of these different organizations will read. Conservative America has the numbers in population to make a wholesale change. All we need is leadership; people who will set their egos aside and lead us to where our founders intended us to be, using the system they designed. As I wrote, you have the people with you. We have in the past and continue to show we are here. There are prominent conservatives in the media, the political realm, and Hollywood who have immense fortunes that could help fund a political party, and there are many good, conservative legislators to govern.

Many wealthy founding fathers died penniless but they had forged the greatest nation ever established. We don’t have to begin from scratch to build a nation; all we have to do is once again live by their design. How much better could we honor those who have died to establish and preserve this Republic?

We the People are ready, we are willing, and we are able. All we need is for those of you organizing things, and those with the financial means to finance it, to get together and forge the type of future envisioned by our founders so many years ago. It can be done and you can do it, with the support of the 67% of We the People who call themselves TEA Party folks.

I mentioned this in passing to Steve Eichler of TEA Party.Org . His response was “a TEA Party Congress? Interesting”. I like the sound of a TEA Party Congress. It represents the vision and the work of our founders. We have allowed our nation to come under the control of despots who see themselves as ruling rather than governing. The only way to change it is to garner the support of the 67% who identify with the TEA Party and focus it on an Independent party.

The demographics say that 40% of people identify as Republicans, 40% as Democrats, and 20% as Independents. Even with my lowly high school education I can figure out that no two of the groups can make up 67%. That means TEA Party people must come from all three demographic groups. I know that there are enough disaffected Democrat voters to give us the support we need to stop the tyranny being foisted upon us by both political parties.

Divided we are a minority in both parties but united we can overcome both parties and stop the evil despotism that is destroying the very fabric of our nation. We the People need your help to accomplish this goal. Without leadership there is no hope for liberty to survive. With leadership we can once again make the United States of America the greatest nation on earth.

God granted us a great nation that has fallen away from his way; and with that falling away has come decline, despair, and tyranny. Together we can bring our nation back to the principles of God that are the basis of our past success as a nation. I don’t speak of a theological nation but rather a restoration of the values established by the founders. The question is; Can you do it? Will you do it? Can all of you, will all off you, join forces to defeat the tyranny that is tearing our nation apart and destroying the futures of our children and grandchildren?

I am with you, and you will find the majority of We the People will follow you if you will unite and truly lead as our founders led. Duty, Honor, Country, “with a firm reliance on Divine Providence” is the answer to our national and personal woes. I pledge to you my support, my loyalty to your cause as long as it is the cause of constitutional liberty, my sacred honor, and my life. I have no fortune to pledge but I pledge what I can offer if you will accept the mantle of leadership and work to restore the nation so many have died to establish and preserve.

Sen. Tom Coburn: Charlatan or Traitor?

My wife and I recently sent separate e-mails to Sen. Tom Coburn asking him to join Rand Paul’s filibuster of Harry Reid’s latest gun control scheme. We sent messages on the same day, she from her office and me from our home. Neither of us knew about the other until that evening when we sat down for dinner and discussed the day’s events. The responses we received were a day apart, hers on April 9th and mine on April 10^th.

I don’t know why we were surprised when we compared the responses but we were. We both received the form letter some aide undoubtedly wrote to make it sound like Sen. Coburn actually believes in the 2^nd Amendment and the rights of We the People. I have included the response I received and have my wife’s available if anyone desires to contest that they are the same. I also know of two other people who received the same letter.

Letter from Sen. Tom Coburn in response to a request that he join the filibuster started by Sen. Rand Paul:

Dear Mr. Russell,

Thank you for taking the time to write me to express your opinion and concerns about the various gun control proposals. I am encouraged so many Oklahomans are making their voices heard. I have received an overwhelming number of letters, and in order to respond in a timely manner, I am writing a response that encompasses my entire position. If you have additional questions or concerns, please write me again.

I want to be clear: I remain committed to defending and protecting our Constitution; namely the Second Amendment. I have long protected the rights of law-abiding citizens to own guns. I am opposed to a ban on assault rifles and I oppose limiting magazines. I will not vote for any bill that limits the gun rights of law abiding citizens. While I support a debate in the Senate on gun related issues—including reaffirming these rights and forcing gun-control advocates to have their votes on record and be held accountable for their votes—I will not only support, but lead a filibuster to prevent the passage of any bill that limits the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

The news reports are correct that I have been involved in discussions to write legislation improving the existing background checks to enable private citizens to check a database and ensure the person they seek to sell their gun to is legally allowed to own a firearm. I believe it is good public policy to make sure that those who are mentally-ill or a felon (both are already prohibited from owning a gun), do not have access to a weapon. However, I oppose record keeping and will not agree to legislation that expands record keeping to private sales.

The concern I am hearing over and over is not just about people maintaining their right to own firearms—it is a concern about how to preserve liberty. When our Constitution was adopted, we had just won a war fought largely by Minute Men and localized, or unofficial, militias (Sons of Liberty, etc). The first shots fired at Concord were, in part, to preserve a local supply of firearms that the British sought to confiscate. Our founders believed very strongly that the individual right to bear arms would preserve the independence and freedom won in 1781, just as they had enabled our founders to win the revolutionary war. They feared tyranny and centralized power—which is why our Constitution was established. In addition to the checks created by balancing power between a legislature and executive—and checked by a judiciary—the Bill of Rights sought to limit the federal government and clearly stated that those powers not enumerated in the Constitution and delegated to the federal government would remain with the states and the people (the 9th and 10th Amendments).

Yet, our federal government regularly legislates on matters that belong to the states and the people. Our freedoms are being gradually encroached and choked by ever-increasing regulations, laws, agencies, and overspending. This concerns me greatly and I fight daily to rein in the size, scope and spending of our federal government. I believe the greatest threat to our Republic is apathy as our overindulgent federal government, through indebtedness, spends the money of future generations. James Madison, the architect of our Constitution, said something similar in 1788 in a speech in Virginia when he said, “Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.”

I am aware of this and I work to push back on all attacks to our Constitution, including those to our Second Amendment. Congress must be careful not to legislate in a way that makes criminals out of law-abiding, gun-owning citizens.

Thank you for being involved and allowing me these last eight years to fight to protect our Constitution. I daily think about the sacrifices of past generations and I am grateful. In these last four years, as I finish out my second term, I remain committed to protecting your Second Amendment rights and working to limit our federal government and reduce federal spending.

That isn’t a response, it’s a press release. And just what is there to debate about the 2^nd Amendment? I thought it was quite obvious what the founders intended. They intended for citizens to have the means to defend themselves, first and foremost, against a tyrannical government. This mental health scam is just a way of abolishing the right to own firearms, thereby rendering We the People defenseless against a dictatorship. Keep guns out of the hands of criminals??? How did prohibition work out, Senator?? How is Chicago working out??? Try enforcing the laws on the books now before passing more. See how that works out. But your answer is to surrender here and fight ”next time”. What “next time”???? Which “next time”? When????????

I have always supported Sen. Coburn because I thought he was a true American patriot who cared deeply about his country and the God-given rights listed in the Constitution. Coburn just voted to allow a simple majority of Democrats to gut the 2^nd Amendment, and nullify the 4^th and 5^th Amendments; and is telling constituents he supports our right to possess firearms.

This is double-talk if I ever saw double-talk!! And who decides who is mentally ill or not, Diane Feinstein??? Was I wrong all these years or has Coburn just decided that my liberty isn’t worth his effort since he is retiring from Congress at the end of this term? Frankly, I don’t know what to think about him!! Gun control, Amnesty, where does Coburn really stand up for America??

It is very apparent that Sen. Coburn, along with the bulk of the Republican Party and every member of the Democrat Party, has betrayed We the People. They have also betrayed the oath of office they swore, to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America”. That oath apparently is no longer valid in their minds. They twist its meaning to justify their treachery as they have assumed the mantle of dictators with the power of life and death over the citizens they consider to be no more than subjects. You know, kind of like King George!!!

Members of both political parties have gone beyond violating their oaths of office and have reached the point of treason. It is painfully obvious they have no intention of governing, taking the position that their esteemed positions give them the “right” to rule over We the People as if we are cattle to be herded at their whim. When I see the outright arrogance and corruption that pervades government, both political parties and at all levels, it is impossible to come to the conclusion that liberty as established by our founding fathers is the driving force of politicians. Power, prestige in the media, and personal wealth is all they seek. The Constitution and the rights of citizens get in the way of their goal of total control of the nation.

Members of both political parties run to the microphones and cameras of their media lapdogs to proclaim their dedication to freedom while doing everything they can to destroy that freedom. And the lapdog media, desiring favor from those same ruling politicians, report what they are told to report, and spin as they are told to spin.

This isn’t a Democrat vs. Republican power play; it is a political ruling class vs. We the People power play and We the People are losing. DHS is arming itself to the teeth with billions of rounds of hollow point ammunition, the kind that cannot be used in war; thousands of full automatic rifles, the true “assault rifle”; thousands of armored vehicles called MRAP’s, the mine-proof type used in war by our military; and DHS agents run practice operations with local law enforcement, using machine gun firing helicopters over our cities. What is all this armament of a “domestic security force” to be used for??? Care to take a guess???? Maybe they are going to start rounding up all the illegal aliens!!!!!!

Sen. Diane Feinstein tells us that ALL veterans are mentally ill, dangerously unstable, and should be banned from owning firearms. In New York and California local law enforcement is already confiscating guns from those they see as a threat to their dictatorship. How about that one Sen. Coburn??? Some states are racing to see who can pass the stiffest gun control legislation. Never mind the 2^nd, 4^th, and 5th Amendments!!!! They have DHS to back them up.

The Veteran’s Administration is now used as a conduit for imprisoning men and women who served their country honorably and now only desire to have the medical treatment promised to them for their service. They have put their lives in danger for the freedom of others, protecting the very scumbag politicians that now seek to have them committed to asylums without due process; and to confiscate their guns without any reason other than politicians see them as a threat to their tyranny.

Is this the vision of America seen by our founding fathers; that veterans are now a threat to the very liberty the founders fought and died for? Are veterans a threat to society because they shared that vision and were willing to risk their lives to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America”? Is this how the experiment in freedom is to end?

And what of those who berate me and call me a “paranoid fear monger” because I see what is happening and call attention to tyranny? “It can’t happen here”???? It is happening here, right now, and politicians in both political parties no longer hide behind fancy words and deception. They come right out and state their intentions to disarm the entire populace, except for the criminals, of course. New York governor Andrew Cuomo recently pronounced that “you don’t need 10 rounds to kill a deah”!! Hey there Andy, the 2^nd Amendment isn’t about killing a “deah”, it is about keeping people like you in your place. It is about protecting We the People from tyranny, from Nazi or Soviet style dictatorships that enslave and murder their people. Politicians are supposed to be “public servants”, not rulers, but look where we are today.

I hope I live long enough to see these politicians and their bureaucrat minions, charged, arrested, tried, convicted, and imprisoned for treason. If We the People lose the war we are in right now it will be generations, if ever, before liberty will be restored. Not one step backwards, Senator!!!

How Joe Biden Spent $585,000 for One Night in Paris

There are more stories about this than I have toothpicks and we owned a restaurant. (Trust me, you end up with a lot of toothpicks after closing a restaurant.) I have a much different take on things but first “the facts:”

And just who’s running our country without this brain child of gluttony at the helm?

Rush Limbaugh hit this nail on the head: People like this self-serving hooligan could not and would not (because they could not) do such things with their own money. They couldn’t afford to, even on their Congressional pay and perks. OUR money is paying for this amoral gluttony and whether you are a Liberal or Conservative, if you aren’t mad as hell about this waste and excess then there’s something seriously wrong with you – get out of here. Biden did spend an evening in Paris in early February, but there are no details in the document about whether this contract is accurate or what the final hotel bill came to. A standard room in the hotel costs about $475 a night, and the royal two-bedroom suite runs about $3,900 a night.The Weekly Standard also points to another government contract for Biden’s London hotel stay in early February. The contract, to the Hyatt Regency London, totaled $459,339. An associated document with that contract said it was for 136 rooms for 893 room nights.

When Mr Biden and his hefty entourage stayed in Paris for an evening in early February and it cost $585,000.50 for that single night. The Vice President likely rented out more than 100 rooms in the Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, though they must not have gotten a group discount rate.

The documentation for this contract is not as detailed as the London one, so the cost per room is not available. However, just like his London hotel, the Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand is a five star hotel. Again, security concerns prevent these type of contracts from being open to bidding, but if the government was able to do some comparison shopping, the Hotel Intercontinental has a special offer, “Find a lower price elsewhere and your first night is free.” The Vice President stayed in Paris for one night.

Sequester Cuts Scam: “An Oldie But a Goodie”

The situation in our nation today takes me back many years to the early days of a sit-com called “The Beverly Hillbillies”. I remember the Clampetts hooking up with “Honest John” Shafer, played by long time comedian Phil Silvers. “Honest John” sold them every monument in Washington, D C (De Cesspool). Those “dumb ole’ Clampetts” just kept giving “Honest John” Shafer checks made out to “C.A.S.H.” If you grew up with the Clampetts, Milburn Drysdale, and Jane Hathaway you will understand. Congress and the ruling elite are “Honest John” Shafer and We the People are the Clampetts. We are being conned by experts who make it their lifelong career to scam us into giving them everything we have while thinking they are taking care of us and “looking out for our best interests”.

Senator Tom Coburn (R-Ok) has come out with what he calls “Back in Black: A Deficit Reduction Plan”. In this plan Coburn points out numerous places where millions of our tax dollars are wasted. But who else in Congress has looked at his plan? What leadership, in either party, has paid one second of attention to it? They ignore it because Coburn’s plan will actually benefit the “Clampetts” to the detriment of “Honest John Shafer”!!

This is our problem, America. We have a plan to cut $9 trillion dollars without cutting back on anything that is necessary for life in America to improve. We sit here and watch Obama, then Boehner, then Reid, then McConnell, then Pelosi, then the usual Idiot Corp of the government bureaucracy stroll out to tell We the People how much we are going to suffer. They are even worried about the Island of Guam tipping over. Oh, wait, that was last time. This time Maxine Waters said we were going to lose 170 million of the 140 million jobs currently in the United States. Again I quote the Aflac duck:” HUH?????????”

So, I am wondering why, when Sen. Coburn has this long list of waste items that can be cut, that none of these cuts ever get made? Why doesn’t either political party make even the most minor of efforts to remove this wasteful spending? Why is it that every time we come to this point, as we do on a regular basis, it is always the same things being cut, always the things that are going to cause the most pain to the lives of We the People? Why are we giving billions of dollars to Egypt in the form of Abrams tanks and F-16 Falcon fighter/bombers? Why are we giving arms and money to the Syrian ”rebels”, actually Al Qaeda, when that money could stop the closure of airports, daycare centers, free medical clinics, etc.? Compassion for the poor??

And, what about the billions being given to the United Nations? What about the foreign aid to Saudi Arabia? Saudi Arabia???? Don’t they make trillions every year selling us oil at preposterous rates???? These things can’t be cut but we can cut money going to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, soldiers and sailors serving their nation in far off lands? Come on America, don’t tell me you still buy this crap from these party oriented confidence men!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen of America, you are being conned by people who only care about themselves; their power, their prestige, and how they are going to continue to rule us. Our nation is being bled dry; financially, morally, and Constitutionally by people in both political parties who care nothing about We the People, the Constitution, and the future of our Republic.

Barack Obama continues to fly around the nation at great expense. Nothing is too grand for “der leader”!!! No one in Congress, other than Rand Paul and Tom Coburn, has cut any money out of their office budgets to turn back to We the People. No one in “leadership” has done anything to actually lead by example. Michelle Obama sticks her nose into anything and everything like she is royalty. We daily hear all the horror stories about how America is going to suffer; yet we spend $1.4 BILLION per year to keep “The Jeffersons” in the White House, not to mention their numerous Five-Star resort vacation trips and separate planes for the family dog!!! Don’t tell me we can’t cut expenses without hurting the citizens!!!

Sen. Coburn has the answers to many of our problems right there in his “black book” but no one in the leadership of either political party will allow any of it to come up for consideration. Why does this go on if they are as concerned as they all say they are about the well-being of American citizens? Well, I guess the political class does have an answer, more government; more of what caused the problems in the first place.

This is a Republican Party problem; this is a Democrat Party problem; this is a political opportunism problem. Political opportunists in both parties are pitting We the People against one another. The political ruling class has joined forces to frighten and intimidate citizens into acquiescing to their agenda of continued tighter control of our lives.

I wrote a few days ago about the need for a political party to represent the 67% of We the People who identify as TEA Party conservatives. Neither political party has shown any desire to actually fix the problems our nation faces. It is more about pointing fingers and placing blame so nothing ever gets fixed. There are good people in Washington but they are outnumbered terribly. They need us as much as we need them. We are a team!!!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel still. I am proud of and encouraged by my fellow Americans who are stepping up now. The sheriffs and police chiefs who have pledged to refuse to disarm citizens are a breath of freedom. We need a wholesale change of perspective, to one based on The Constitution. I see it beginning at the county level with these sheriffs and their constituents. We can take this unity to Washington if we will band together in mutual protection, and support those people in Congress who will speak out for us. This is a call to action for YOU. Contact your Senator, your Congressman, and demand they get on board with this.

Republican Congressmen Want Answers On Benghazi

It seems someone in Washington is beginning to listen to We the People. Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA), Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-PA), a Ways and Means Committee member, sent a letter to Secretary of State John “Lurch” Kerry telling him they want to speak with the thirty or so “invisible” Americans present in Benghazi the night of the attack on the consulate. Kerry will refuse and Republican “leadership” will sandbag this until it gets overridden by a new “crisis”, if We the People let them. It is up to us to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

I urge everyone who reads this to get on their members of Congress and demand this be looked at and looked at seriously. I wrote about this a few weeks go asking what happened and why these “investigating” committees weren’t talking to anyone who was actually on site at the time of the attack. All we got was a song and dance cover-up from Leon Panetta and Hillary Clinton; a “where was Elmo, er Barry?” moment from “outraged Republicans”; and an “oh, well, we asked” conclusion from Republicans in the end, as is “modus operendi” in government. Fast & Furious comes to mind!!!

Neither party leadership wants the truth to come out, on this or any other “investigation” they do. Gunrunning to our enemies is a serious matter and could possibly be at the root of this whole affair. Again, Fast & Furious comes to mind!! The other “conspiracy theory” out there is that Stephens was to be kidnapped and traded for the “blind sheik”, Omar Abdel Rahman, being held as the mastermind of the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. Either, neither, something else???? We don’t know and likely will never know if the political establishment gets their way. In politics it seems the “one hand (D) washes the other hand (R)” method of “finding the truth” has never been more fashionable. They come out with “clean hands” and We the People lose a little more ground in the battle for liberty, the soul of America.

We the People need to get behind these two men. They have shown the courage and integrity to step up and do what they pledged to do in Congress. We need to contact our own members of Congress and demand that they sign on to this and refuse to accept any more of the typical “Teaberry Shuffle” from the “leadership” of both political parties. This article will be the second time my congressman hears about this issue from me.

This is how we get our government back. As leaders step out of the shadows we get behind them and let them know We the People have their backs because Boehner and the other RINO’s, along with all Democrats, will be looking to stab them in the back as quickly and lethally as possible. Boehner will look to make an example of them as he has done in the past, or simply ignore the matter.

We cannot allow any more patriots in Congress to be trampled underfoot by the corruption that pervades Washington D C (De Cesspool). Boehner punished Tim Huelskamp, Justin Amash and several others for having the temerity to stand with We the People instead of the party establishment. These people are the ones we need if we are to survive as a Republic. When they stand up against the tyranny that is political party establishment politics they are standing up for US. This is what so many of us demand; so when our demands are met we must respond with favorable fervor towards those who stand up for us.

TEA Party conservative voters, the 67% of We the People from 2009/2010, have put enough members in Congress to be able to overcome Boehner and his RINO henchmen on any issue. Those TEA Party people registered as Democrats need to do the same with their member of Congress. I know they tend to ignore us but now is the time to put more pressure on all of them. Let all of them, in both political parties, feel the heat of primary challenges if they refuse to change the way they are dong things.

Write, call, or fax your congressman and senators. Be polite but firm and insist they stop hiding behind party politics, and represent you the way they promised while campaigning, and uphold the Constitution as they swore an oath to do. At the 2013 freshman orientation for Republicans John Boehner essentially told them that if they were there to represent their districts the door was in the back of the room but if they were there to “take care of business” then they could stay.

We the People cannot allow this to continue. Burning phone, fax, and e-mail lines in Washington is the most effective way to accomplish this task right now. My delegation members hear from me on a regular basis, sometimes with praise and other times “without” praise.

The 2^nd Amendment issue is front and center right now and is proof of what We the People can do if we will stand with elected officials who stand up for us. The “coming together” of local law enforcement and civilian patriots is extremely encouraging and an example of how we take our government back from those who have perverted the meaning and design of our founding fathers.

The typical Republican in Congress is a lily livered shill of the NWO globalists and will not honor their oath of office, and essentially no better than the Marxist Democrats. We need to get behind those who will actually represent We the People and insure that they are not trampled under the foot of jack-booted thugs in both political parties. Those who show the courage to speak out against the “leadership” of either party need, and more importantly DESERVE, the support of all citizens. They are the true patriots in Washington!!!

Jim DeMint – Change in Washington Can Only Come From the Outside

Great conservatives like Marco Rubio, Mike Lee and Rand Paul can only be topped with a Senate majority. If so, it won’t be with Senator DeMint as he moves to the Heritage Foundation. The true fight in engaging Washington and politics in general is from the outside.

Universities indoctrinate thousands of liberals annually, these indoctrinated students are painfully brought back to reality through life experiences. Some never leave their theoretical world, only to validate their flawed concepts. As universities place these misguided in powerful positions, our society begins to deteriorate.
Media and Hollywood reinforce these false concepts with keenly worded polls and convenient news to push political agendas. Bob Costa's choose gun control over Jovan Belchers' fractured family? How convenient a Small Arms treaty is awaiting ratification rather than the destruction of unwedded parents, raising a child in a dysfunctional home. You have the perfect contributions of Hollywood when you throw in cinematography, a famous actor and a great storyline.
Community organizations and unions drive similar messages. Life's hard lessons are the fault of greedy bankers loaning money to the poor or business owners providing jobs rather than bad legislation. In 2010, union workers made up 11.4% of the workforce; now only 7%. Unions see private businesses fall apart because they bargain for more power, squeezing every last profit out until no business has anything to fall back on. Community organizations (also referred to as Non Governmental Organizations) such as the Sierra Club, PETA or ACORN advocate for the distressed. If negotiating or the problem was solved, community organizations and unions would no longer need to exist.

Universities, unions, community organizations and media use groupthink, authority and compartmentalization to whip mobs into frenzies so they maintain their political power. These outside agencies influence our political system through subversion and power. They use individual actions to justify their broad, collective advocacy or propaganda.
In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.

The Fiscal Cliff Swindle And the Future of A Republic

So, now that Obama has been re-elected it seems the entire Republican Party Establishment, including the talking heads, are showing their real agenda and their lack of honor once again.  How many members of Congress have now reneged on their pledge to not raise taxes?  Sen. Saxby Chambliss and Rep. Peter King have been prominent among those of the GOP (Globalist Oligarchy Party) to join Speaker John Boehner and his chief henchman Eric Cantor in running up the white flag.  At the same time they are sneering at the very people who have supported them based on their promises to cut spending and lower taxes on everyone, thereby avoiding the “Fiscal Cliff” in the first place. 
I have screamed at the top of my lungs about who and what the Republican Establishment stands for and what their true intentions entail.  George H. W. Bush turned on We the People and reneged on his promises of “no new taxes”.  Then George W. Bush, the “compassionate conservative”, broke every promise he made to get elected and then re-elected. “Four more years to complete the program” is not a new tactic by the Obama Crime Syndicate.  Karl “Marx” Rove used the very same tactic as effectively as did David Axelrod.
Republicans have marched leftward, along with Democrats, in creating the “fiscal cliff” they promised to prevent if we voted for them in 2010.  Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Ok, has the answer but Republican Party leaders ignore him.  Coburn, DeMint, and Rand Paul are as despised and hated by the Party insiders as are We the People.  We are told they have to give in on every promise they made in those past elections to save the nation.  The political parties and their propaganda outlets once again tell us that the solution to our fiscal and moral dilemmas are more of the same policies both parties have followed for the past 25 years , the policies that got us here.  
For the last two years Republicans have done nothing but whine about “we only have control of one-half of one-third of government” while they reneged on every promise they made to get elected in 2010.  And what did they do when they had total control of the government in the past?  The “Patriot” Act, TSA, “No Child Left Behind” and the rest of the niceties Bush left us are still with us, supported by the same Republicans who always promise to cut the size of government to get elected and then promptly expand the government footprint in our lives.  How long will it take for enough people to demand they do what they promised us they would do?  Oh, wait, didn’t we do this once before?  The TEA Party comprised 67% of We the People who swept Republicans into office in record numbers nationally, statewide, and locally in 2010.  Three million less voted for Republicans in 2012 than did in 2008.  Something like eight million less voted for Democrats.  That is a sad commentary on the satisfaction and confidence producing citizens have in their government.
And as to the Democrats, what did they have to say about 67% of We the People and our opinions as to how our nation should be managed?  They called us racist, sexist, Islamophobic, homophobic, Nazi terrorists.  In the last two years I have not seen Democrats moderate their views of We the People, and the Republicans who dismissed us in 2010 are now blaming us for the mess our country is in.  I said in 2009 that if Boehner and McConnell were in charge of the Republican Party nothing would change for the better.  I wish I had been wrong but I based my opinions on their past records and the way they minced words to avoid taking a stand without an escape clause.
I am with Herman Cain on his call for a third political party.  We don’t have much time to take our nation back, and with “representation” like this it won’t happen.  We the People need Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, Lloyd Marcus, Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. Rand Paul, Rep. Louis Gohmert, Rep. Michele Bachman, Tim Cox of GOOOH, Matt Kibbe of Freedom Works, and others to band together and lead a conservative movement that will truly represent the 67% that make up the TEA Party.  If these leaders join forces officially to create a political party I believe the conservatives in this nation will show the same vigor we saw in 2009. 
The reason Romney lost, like McCain in 2008, is that they don’t represent the 67% who are trying very hard to support the Republican Party.  Boehner, McConnell, Graham, McCain, Chambliss, King, and many others are not now and never will be conservative.  If Peggy Noonan, Bill Kristol, and their ilk are conservative I am ten feet tall.  The TEA Party majority made a huge difference in the 2010 mid-term elections but found our voices ignored once the election was over.  Politicians and media talking heads who are allegedly on the side of We the People now call us radicals for standing on The Constitution of the United States of America.   Hmmm, haven’t I seen this movie before?
If the right people will band together for the good of the nation they will find support among the citizens.  The 67% aren’t dead, they are frustrated by liars who make promises to get elected and immediately turn on them like they are the enemy.  If those I mentioned can show they truly have the best interests of the citizens as their priority they can be a force in 2014, if our Republic can survive that long.  We need people of honor and character who have the courage to back up their words with action.  We don’t need any more of what the Republican Party Establishment is doing now, nor do we need the increase in pandering to the moochers and looters being offered by them for the future. I believe it is fruitless to try to change the Republican Party.  They have gone the way of the Democrat Party.  Republicans seem to be intent on competing with the Democrat Party for the votes of those with their hands out, and disparage those who make this nation thrive.  Keeping poor people poor and dependent on government seems to be the plan of both political parties.
If the results of the 2010 election, the actions of Republicans since, and the results of the 2012 elections are not enough to show everyone where Conservatives stand in the eyes of the Republican Party Establishment I don’t know what will accomplish that.  The left turns of this nation have to stop and 67% of We the People are looking for leadership, someone to truly represent our views and our standards.  We need a group of patriots who will step up, band together, and offer conservatives a political party that we can believe in.  I firmly believe they will draw strong support from registered voters of both political parties.  There are a lot of disenfranchised Democrats in America who aren’t being represented any better by their party.  We may not have enough time to save our Republic but we certainly aren’t going to save it continuing on the path we are on now.  A third political party has become our only option to reverse course and save a nation for future generations.

The Day After…

Well, we lost.  Mitt Romney didn’t win comfortably.  BUT, Republicans maintained control of the House of Representatives.  In one of the most ignominious highlights of the night, the GOP lost two senate seats – increasing the Democratic majority by two.  The current makeup is 55 Democrats to 45 Republicans.  In a milestone for the ladies, 20% of the U.S. Senate will be represented by women.  However, the night ended a bit like 2004 in reverse.
While the notions of GOP turnout seemed assured, it was rarely monitored, and turnout for the youth (and voter turnout in general) was unexpectedly high.  To no one’s surprise, young voters broke for the president (60-36), but represented a larger share of the electorate than four years ago.  Romney’s lead amongst independents wasn’t enough to overcome the Latino vote, which he lost to Obama miserably 72%-23%.  Lastly, Romney wasn’t able to cut into the gender gap quite as effectively as he wanted to, with the president winning women, overall, by eleven points.  However, it’s with unmarried women that Romney had a fatal disadvantage with, as they broke for Obama 67% to 31%.
On states, betting on Pennsylvania proved to another catastrophic play.  We haven’t won the Keystone State in almost a quarter century, and it may be time to part company completely.  Concerning Wisconsin, the state may have swung right on recent elections, but perhaps the ‘fairness voters’ – voters who may not agree with Walker’s policies, but are appalled that unions would want to revoke an election result – turned out to vote for the president this time.  In Ohio and Virginia, Romney’s failure to execute the war on coal narrative sooner, and formulating a response to the Bain ads, contributed to his defeat.
Without a doubt, the Bain ads – the Obama campaign’s first official salvo in their ‘Kill Romney’ strategy –  released right after Mitt unofficially clinched the Republican nomination resonated with Buckeye residents, and shame on the Governor’s communications team, who were on the defensive for most of the election cycle.  In short, like with Goldwater in ’64, the Obama campaign was able to define Romney – before Romney could define himself.  It’s another costly misfire.
However, I truly feel that Mitt Romney ran a good campaign, and did the best he could’ve with what he had regarding resources.  It’s hard to be successful when you don’t have a Karl Rove, James Carville, or David Plouffe on your side.  It also hurt that he couldn’t run on health care, since Romneycare served as the blue print for one of the most egregious affronts to the constitution since the Alien and Sedition Acts of the Adams administration.
Yet, if you looked at the field from the beginning, It was either going to be Mitt Romney or Rick Perry fighting for the nomination.  Newt and Cain treated this serious event in American politics with the maturity of eight year olds at a lemonade stand – with the lemonade being books.  For many Americans, Michele Bachmann failed the threshold question of any presidential candidate, which is do I trust this person with nuclear weapons?  Disgraced former Pennsylvanian Senator Rick Santorum failed the conservative test, in my opinion, by voting for Medicare Part D, which added $ 7 trillion to the unfunded liability of the program. That’s 20% of the entire unfunded liability, which we now have to deal with before the fiscal cliff.  He voted for Sonia Sotomayor for circuit judge. Santo voted against National Right to Work, Food Stamp reform, a flat tax, and Medicaid reform.  He voted for internet taxes, the unionization of FedEx (twice), and No Child Left Behind.  He took that one for the team.
Rick Perry, my choice for president, flamed out in one of the most epic derailments we’ve probably seen in a long time.  Jon Huntsman was too moderate.  Ron Paul was well, Ron Paul. So, we were left with Mitt Romney.  Sometimes the pickings of the field aren’t too stellar, and we have to deal with that.
Again, I don’t blame Romney for the loss.  Yes, Obama’s record of economic pain, which he has inflicted without mercy on the American people, is long, but his political team, along with the media, were able to spin it just enough to trivialize the fallout.  As Ralph Reed, Founder and former Executive Director for the Faith and Freedom Coalition, said at CPAC 2012 last February – we’re about to face “the meanest, toughest, most vicious political team we’ve ever faced.”  He was right, and we paid dearly for it.

Given Obama’s record, and Republicans’ inability to defeat him, it begs the question if the GOP should have any business being in American politics.  Yes, they still do, but renovations need to be made.  We need to do better with women – cough nix the rape talk cough cough – hispanics, and younger voters.  The hispanic vote ruined the California GOP back in 1994 when Prop. 187 established a citizenship screening process and barred illegals from using state services was construed as ‘anti-immigrant.’  It was really protecting the territorial integrity of the United States, a core function of a nation in the international system, but that’s a different debate. Regardless, it was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and California Republicans have been in the bunker ever since.
We need to find ways to protect our sovereign soil, but in a way that doesn’t come off as nativist.  Hispanics are hard-workers, religious, and pro-traditional marriage.  Or, at least, that’s what was the conventional wisdom at the time.  Heather MacDonald posted on National Review yesterday that:
a March 2011 poll by Moore Information found that Republican economic policies were a stronger turn-off for Hispanic voters in California than Republican positions on illegal immigration. Twenty-nine percent of Hispanic voters were suspicious of the Republican party on class-warfare grounds — “it favors only the rich”; “Republicans are selfish and out for themselves”; “Republicans don’t represent the average person”– compared with 7 percent who objected to Republican immigration stances.
I spoke last year with John Echeveste, founder of the oldest Latino marketing firm in southern California, about Hispanic politics. “What Republicans mean by ‘family values’ and what Hispanics mean are two completely different things,” he said. “We are a very compassionate people, we care about other people and understand that government has a role to play in helping people.”
So, despite Mitt’s shaky conservative credentials, without a doubt, he’s the most hard-lined presidential candidate on immigration we’ve had in the past ten years – and that didn’t hurt him with these voters.  Bain, on the other hand, probably didn’t help.
Nevertheless, I’m not saying we should be for amnesty.  We shouldn’t be.  Amnesty is unfair and unethical – as is the president’s Dream Act light, which requires illegals to bribe the government $465 from doing it’s job enforcing federal law.  However, what 2012 should show all conservatives is that our coalition, which to Paul Krugman’s chagrin truly represents the ‘Real America,’ is static.  It’s more rural, blue collar, and white.  That’s not enough to win elections.  We need to improve outreach with minorities and venture back into the cities, or places where the people are, to make these contests competitive again.  George W. Bush won 44% of the Latino vote in 2004, with increased majorities in the House and Senate.  It’s not impossible. But it’ll be very difficult trying to chip away at the government’s “role in helping people,” which in Democrat speak for getting these people so dependent on us as possible, so they’re a lock when Election Day arrives.
Concerning the ladies, we need to exert a little more discretion when we talk about rape.  While the Democratic National Convention could’ve been Abortion Fest 2012,the senate races in this cycle should have been more appropriately called Rape Fest.  It’s odd that we even have to mention this, and some blame the Tea Party for these mishaps. I don’t.  The Tea Party is the heart and soul of the Republican Party.  As George Will once noted, they’re the best thing to happen in American politics since the Goldwater insurgency.  Republicans would not be where they are now without the Tea Party, but that does not mean we should accept every one of their primary victors as serious candidates.
As Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel wrote in The Daily Caller yesterday:
The tea party believes the GOP establishment is ideologically corrupt. They’re right. But replacing the current leadership with obviously unqualified buffoons is no remedy. Republicans have lost at least five winnable Senate races in the last two cycles because they fielded candidates whose only real qualification was being anti-establishment. Many will argue the GOP can only win going forward with more liberal candidates. That’s not true. But the genuine conservatives they find will have to come with political skills, policy smarts and impressive resumes in order to get elected.
The sad truth is that even if the Republican Party did all this — sent its current leaders home and stopped nominating losers — it still wouldn’t be enough. The country is changing too fast. Most people have the sense that America is different demographically from what it was 20 years ago. But unless they’ve been reading the latest census data, they have no real idea. The changes are that profound. They’re also permanent and likely to accelerate. In order to remain competitive outside Utah, the GOP will have to win new voters, and soon.
That’s the Republican reformation plan, Stage B. They may get there. First they’ll have to tackle the basics, like finding fresh leadership and candidates who aren’t embarrassing.
That will take some serious vetting.  Furthermore, we’re Republicans.  We’re pro-life, and the American people know that about our movement.  In elections centered on the economy, you can easily pivot away from such issues.  Sadly, some of our fellow party members couldn’t help themselves, they shot their mouths off, and got trounced.  There is much intra-party work to do – and it starts now.
Meanwhile, a divided America exists and the government we elected is representative of that partisanship.  Michael Barone wrote also wrote in National Review that Americans on the right, and the others of the left, are no longer becoming culturally cohesive.
Ronald Reagan, speaking the language of the old, universal popular culture, could appeal to both Americas. His successors, not so much. Barack Obama, after an auspicious start, has failed to do so.
As a result, there are going to be many Americans profoundly unhappy with the result of this election, whichever way it goes. Those on the losing side will be especially angry with those whose candidate won.
Americans have faced this before. This has been a culturally diverse land from its colonial beginnings. The mid-20th-century cultural cohesiveness was the exception, not the rule.
We used to get along by leaving each other alone. The Founders established a limited government, neutral on religion, allowing states, localities, and voluntary associations to do much of society’s work. Even that didn’t always work: We had a Civil War.
An enlarged federal government didn’t divide mid-20th-century Americans, except on civil-rights issues. Otherwise, there was general agreement about the values government should foster.
Now the two Americas disagree, sharply. Government decisions enthuse one and enrage the other. The election may be over, but the two Americas are still not on speaking terms.
It’s sort of like this exchange between President Bartlet and Governor Ritchie.

Right now, Obama is in a good position to increases taxes, which will happen when Obamacare’s fully implemented in 2014, nominate SCOTUS appointments, which threaten to curtail our constitutional rights, and to continue this destructive surge in government spending that only shackles people to the will of the state through dependency.  It’s up to House Republicans to obstruct Democratic plans, and put forward a deluge of alternatives of their own. Granted, we won’t be able to filibuster Supreme Court appointments, but this president’s agenda, and that of the Democrats, is inherently dangerous to the socioeconomic fabric of the country and we must fight them all the way.  Concerning the fiscal cliff, maybe compromise can be reached.  Yet, we should also remember that compromise is how we got Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, and the first round of federal stimulus under the Bush administration.  Policies that attributed to the near collapse of the conservative movement in this country.
I’m pessimistic that a deal will be reached.  This president’s ego would bust the marble in the Capitol dome – and he exuded poor presidential leadership as described in Bob Woodward’s new book The Price of Politics.  Yet, Mr. Will again reminds us that throughout the course of American history there is not a single thing that the American people wanted intensely and protractedly that they did not eventually get from the federal government.

    


My Prediction: Romney Wins Comfortably

The day has arrived.  In about twenty-four hours, the stains of Barack Obama will be wiped clean and honor and dignity will be restored to The White House under President-elect Mitt Romney.  It hasn’t been an easy road.  Conservatives waged a brutal primary battle that left us with a scarred nominee – Romney – coming out of the gate to take on President Obama in the general.  However, he licked his wounds, redeployed his campaign assets, and was laser focused on Barack Obama’s miserable record of debt, deficits, and high unemployment.  As a result, he’s polling slightly ahead of the President on Election Eve, and I’m confident Governor Romney will be the next President of the United States.
Granted there were some bumps in the road.  The last week of August and the whole month of September were especially lackluster – but his resounding and decisive victory in the first, and most important, presidential debate altered the electoral map in a way liberals couldn’t imagine.  His surge in the polls with women decimated Obama’s double-digit lead amongst women, and Romney’s double-digit lead amongst independents will prove valuable in the generals, as well as the down ticket races in the House and Senate.  Right now, I have Gov. Romney winning the 2012 Election with 289 electoral votes to Obama’s 249.  Some pundits, like George Will, predict a 321 Electoral landslide for Mitt Romney, but I’m more reserved.
First, to even begin to contemplate such a mandate, Romney needs to win Pennsylvania – a state that hasn’t gone Republican since 1988.  While some polls show that the races is tied (Romney is shown trailing by 2-4 points on D+8 polls) – I’m just not ready to bet the mortgage on a state we have failed to lock up for almost a quarter century.  Granted, the 2011 county courthouse races were indicative that Democrats in the western part of the state – the bitter clingers who are mostly pro-life and pro-gun rights – were getting sick of liberal policies.  Republicans took Westmoreland County for the first time in fifty years.  Now, Republicans control 51 of the 67 counties in PA, with most of the inroads being in the western part of the state.  Republican media consultant Michael  Hudome wrote on The Daily Caller on Nov. 2 that “half of the NRA membership in the entire country is within a four-hour drive of Pittsburgh.”
Recent electoral results signal a Republican surge in the Commonwealth. Conservative Pat Toomey was elected to the Senate in 2010 despite the best efforts of the White House.
Republicans control 12 of Pennsylvania’s 18 congressional seats. In the crucial Philadelphia suburbs, Democrats were only able to offer token opposition to Congressmen Mike Fitzpatrick and Patrick Meehan this year. In those critical counties near Philly, Governor Romney is a perfect fit for Independent and Republican women. Polls suggest there is no gender gap.
This election, voter intensity favors Republicans. Senator Bob Casey (of the Potted Plant Party) has his hands full with a challenge from businessman Tom Smith. Recent polls show that race is a toss-up.Given all these factors, it’s no wonder Romney and his allies have started an air war. In fact, Republicans have spent enough money on ads in Pennsylvania in the past week to fund a solid, month-long ad campaign in the state.

Furthermore, “semi-defrocked” Republican strategist Mike Murphy recently tweeted that if Romney is trailing by two in the PA polls – he wins Ohio.

In the end, it’ll all be about turnout, but I’m cautiously pessimistic about the Keystone State.  I think Obama will eek out a win here.  However, I will bet that  Tom Smith, the Republican Senate candidate, will defeat incumbent Democrat Bob Casey, Jr.  He made up a deficit of almost twenty points in the polls, and flooded the state with ads to hammer at Casey.  It has worked.  The race is a virtual tie. With Casey’s nonexistent campaign and low enthusiasm from Democratic voters, I think Smith will win.
Now, concerning the Buckeye State, Obama is trying to over-perform in the auto/industrial areas of Toledo and Akron.  However, in an election where Democratic enthusiasm isn’t nearly as high as Republicans, it’ll be an uphill struggle.  Whereas Mitt Romney is taking a page from George W. Bush in ’04 centering on the southeast portion of the state – coal country – and the swing suburbs around Cincinnati.  As of now, the race is tied – but The American Spectator’s Robert Stacy McCain has been on the Romney campaign crawl and posted this on Election Eve.

[ Ali] Akbar [Republican operative] stayed up all night Saturday poring over Ohio early-voting totals, comparing them to previous elections, studying recent Buckeye State polls, and crunching the numbers before waking me up before 8 a.m. Sunday to declare, “We’ve got Ohio.” His analysis of the early-vote numbers and his interpretation of the latest Columbus Dispatch poll as bad news for Obama quickly inspired an online buzz among Republicans who have been worried sick over Ohio. Even at the mid-October apex of Romney’s surge, the Republican never led the Real Clear Politics average of polls in this crucial battleground state. Although Obama’s lead has never been large — as of Sunday, he led the RCP Ohio average by 2.8 points — it has been remarkably persistent, prompting much theorizing about the factors behind it. The economy in Ohio hasn’t been quite as hard-hit as some other states; unemployment is only 7 percent. Ads from the Obama campaign have hit Romney hard for his opposition to the GM and Chrysler bailout, a reasonably popular measure in Ohio, where auto manufacturing jobs are a vital part of the state’s economy.

However, it’s a false narrative considering that Mr. Romney’s plan would have also saved the auto industry, which was reaffirmed in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal by auto expert Edward Niedermeyer.  However, the trend with overall early voting doesn’t favor Obama.  Gallup stated that 15% of the electorate has already voted and they’re splitting 52%-46% in Romney’s favor.


Given the Obama administration’s ‘War on Coal,’ I will hedge my bets that there will be a high turnout from these counties adjacent to the Appalachian Trail, but if Hamilton County swings Republican, we can all breath a sigh of relief.
In Wisconsin, I didn’t give this to Romney because it’s Paul Ryan’s home state, and therefore, a safe win.  As George Will aptly noted back in April:

 …in the 16 elections since World War II, 10 presidential candidates have failed to carry the home state of their vice presidential running mates. Gov. Earl Warren could not carry California for Tom Dewey in 1948; Sen. Estes Kefauver could not carry Tennessee for Adlai Stevenson in 1956; former senator Henry Cabot Lodge could not carry Massachusetts for Richard Nixon in 1960; Rep. Bill Miller could not carry New York for Barry Goldwater in 1964; Gov. Spiro Agnew could not carry Maryland for Nixon in 1968; Sargent Shriver could not carry Maryland for George McGovern in 1972; Rep. Geraldine Ferraro could not carry New York (or women, or even her congressional district) for Walter Mondale in 1984; Sen. Lloyd Bentsen could not carry Texas for Michael Dukakis in 1988; Jack Kemp could not carry New York for Bob Dole in 1996; Sen. John Edwards could not carry North Carolina for John Kerry in 2004.

No, it’s because no state has swung more to the right in the Midwest than Wisconsin.  They booted incumbent Democratic Senator Russ Feingold for Ron Johnson, elected Gov. Scott Walker, and took tow formerly Democratic congressional districts that covers most of the northern part of the state in 2010. Additionally, Republicans took control of both chambers of the state legislature as well.  Furthermore, Gov. Scott Walker became the only governor in American history to survive a recall attempt last June receiving more votes than he did in the 2010 gubernatorial race.  Wisconsin State Senate Republicans also faced a recall of their own on two separate occasions.  The first salvo being fired in August of 2011, where Republicans maintained the majority. The second occurred in 2012, where Democrats gained control, but turned out to be a useless exercise since the the general session will not begin until after November 2012, when the seats will be contested again.
While the race is tied, given the reaffirmation of Walker’s policies, the infrastructure Walker has built to successfully maintain his residency in the Governor’s Mansion, and the conservative swing of the state’s electorate – suffice to say that a Romney victory here is likely. Disrupting the pattern where Wisconsin has gone Democratic in nine of the last ten presidential races.
In Indiana, Romney is ahead – on average – by 9.5 points.  Safe state.

In North Carolina, Romney is up by 3.  Given that the State Democratic Party of NC was distracted by a sex scandal and was saddled with an unpopular Democratic Governor, Bev Purdue, Romney should win the state. And Republicans will take the Governor’s mansion for Pat McCrory – the Mayor of Charlotte.  When he’s elected, McCrory will be the third Republican in the past thirty-nine years.

In Florida, it looks as if “Romney has pretty much nailed [it] down,” according to Guy Benson.  Ed Morrissey at Hot Air added to this sentiment noting a poll from the Tampa Bay Times and Miami Herald showing Gov. Romney with a comfortable six point lead.
Florida continues to look good for Mitt Romney. The Republican holds a 6-point lead in the state essential to his hopes of defeating President Barack Obama, according to a new Tampa Bay Times/Bay News 9/Miami Herald poll.
The poll shows slight tightening, with Romney’s 51-45 lead down 1 percentage point from the Times’ statewide poll a month ago. …
Still, nearly every key indicator in theTimes’ pre-Election Day poll reveals Romney’s advantage in a state Obama won four years ago.
Florida voters trust Romney more to fix the economy and give him an edge, 50 percent to 48 percent, on who will look out more for the middle class — a stark turn from past months when Obama and his allies unleashed a barrage of TV ads portraying Romney as an out-of-touch corporate raider.
Romney even has a slight advantage on foreign policy, with 2 percent more voters saying they trust him over Obama, who has faced criticism over the fatal attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.
The Herald has an interesting analysis, one that confounds the national media narrative.  Romney now gets more crossover votes than Obama, contra to the common assumption that independents are proto-Republicans and Romney has trouble with his base:
Romney’s strengths: independent voters and more crossover support from Democrats relative to the Republicans who back Obama, according to the survey conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research.
Real Clear Politics Average has Romney with a 1.5 point advantage over the president going into Election Day.

 
Virginia will be a squeaker, but given the coal counties to the far western parts of the state, especially around the town of Grundy, I think Mitt will have success.   Ed Morrissey, who along with Allahpundit and most of the full-time staff, have been doing an excellent job detailing the recent polls and debunking the liberal drivel.  He wrote that:
Mitt Romney still earns 50% support in Virginia just before Election Day.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Virginia Voters shows Romney with 50% of the vote to President Obama’s 48%. One percent (1%) likes another candidate, and another one percent (1%) is undecided.
This is unchanged from two weeks ago and the week before that when it was Romney 50%, Obama 47%.
This one’s tight enough to look at the internals, which are somewhat surprising given the closeness of the toplines.  Obama actually loses the overall gender gap by three points (-7 among men, +4 among women), but he’s also losing independents in Virginia by 21 points, 58/37.  In 2008, Obama had a +11 in the gender gap and won independents by one point, 49/48.  The D/R/I in this sample is D+2 at 38/36/25; in 2008 it was 39/33/27 but in 2009′s gubernatorial election it was 33/37/30.
Romney wins the economic argument by six points, 51/45 over Obama.  There’s a significant gender gap on this question as well, but it also favors Romney (+10 among men, +1 among women).  Romney has a 25-point lead among independents on this question, 58/33.  On the other hand, Obama does have a positive job-approval rating at 51/49, which is probably why the toplines look as close as they do.  I’d guess, though, that Virginia’s going to break significantly for Romney

Lastly, New Hampshire is a bet.  Obama is ahead of Romney by two points, but I will take a gamble, and say  that Romney will take the “Live Free or Die” state due to depressed turnout and a little luck.  It’s my wild card.  Either way, it doesn’t matter.  It’s for fun.
Right now, it’s all about turnout.  Republicans are more enthused to vote this cycle.The Huffington Post posted about Chuck Todd’s breakdown of  Republican voter enthusiasm.  Here’s what he said on Meet The Press on October 7, which was the Sunday after the first presidential debate.
CHUCK TODD: Well, it’s simply an enthusiasm gap. And we’re seeing it across the board. Look at here in this first one. 79% of Republicans call themselves extremely interested in this election. On a scale of one to ten, that means they said they’re a nine or a ten on interest in the election. 73% of Democrats.
Look at four years ago. It was a 13 point gap in favor of the Democrats. Let me go through some various voting groups. This is an important voting group. Seniors are an important voting group to Mitt Romney now. He leads them by about 10 points in our NBC Wall Street Journal poll. Look at this in engagement in the election. Four years ago was 81%, pretty higher. Even higher this time at 87%. And Romney’s doing better among seniors than McCain did.
Let me go to an important voting group for the president, young voters. Look at this engagement level: 52% now they call themselves, voters 18 to 34, call themselves extremely interested in this election. Four years ago it was 72%. That 20 gap. The president wins young voters by huge margins. He’s winning them by some 20-plus points. But if you don’t have this kind of enthusiasm, they’re not going to show up to the polls.
And then let me give you this last one here, because this is, I think, the most important one. And that’s Hispanics. The President’s winning Hispanics by 50 points. He hit the 70% mark. However, look at this in terms of interest in the election. 59% now, it was 77%. What does that mean? President got 65%, I believe, of Hispanics four years ago.
So even though he’s going to get more Hispanics, if less of them turn out, it’s a net zero. And yet, you look at Republican enthusiasm, up, senior enthusiasm, up. It’s a huge problem. And by the way, all of this, pre-debate.
Furthermore, liberals are citing polls based on 2008 turnout levels that oversample Democratic voters.  A D+13 poll isn’t an accurate gauge in this election.  We’ve had an unemployment rate above 8% for over forty consecutive months – with the rate being over 9% for twenty-six of those months.  We have $6 trillion in new debt, 23 million unemployed, and a litany of new regulations.  What has Obama shown for this investment in trickle down government?   
We have seen an anemic economic recovery, with our third quarter growth at an insipid 2%.  President Obama is the personification of the dependency agenda.  A pernicious crusade to establish a hyper-regulatory progressive state and break all institutions within our nation to the will of Washington.  More women have lost their jobs under the Obama administration, and with women more on the economic frontlines, they’ve seen that the president may not be the best choice for their checkbook.
Granted, tonight will be a LONG night. So, make sure those coffee mugs are filled, Red Bulls are plentiful, and champagne fully stocked – because Republicans should be optimistic that Gov. Romney will soon be called ‘President Romney’ fairly soon.
 
 
    


Left-wingers are still ‘Hating Breitbart’

With Andrew Breitbart’s sudden and tragic passing in March of 2012, we on the right once again saw the utterly despicable joy elicited  from the institutional left upon hearing the news of his death.  I’m not even going to cite those tweets, but I’m sure you can all remember the pervasive grave stomping the left engaged in during that somber month.  They were happy because the point of the lance in this fight for a free and democratic press was gone.  The threat to their existence was erased.  Now, it was time for revenge for all of the embarrassment Breitbart rightfully inflicted on the left-wing of America.
However, what’s amusing is that the best the far left could do was blast tweets detailing their pleasure at his passing. It’s beyond sophomoric. This disdain and the crusade Andrew lead that provoked such strong reactions from liberals in America is the subject of Andrew Marcus and his documentary ‘Hating Bretibart.‘
Andrew Breitbart, according to his book Righteous Indignation, grew up a default liberal on the west ‘left’ coast.  It wasn’t until he saw the injustice being done to Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas that he thought something else was at work, especially in the way the media was reporting on the subject.  Breitbart had a saying akin to once we climb over the media’s pernicious wall of misinformation and have our voices heard – then democracy can truly flourish.
Charlie Spiering of The Washington Examiner wrote on October 8 that:
when Marcus speaks about the film, he takes the tone of a storm-chaser, who couldn’t stop following Andrew Breitbart sweep the country and sweeping up  everything in his path. That experience lasted two years, which Marcus still marvels about today.
“I was always very shocked at the things that would unfold in front of our cameras, but you know reliably every time we turned them on and he was around crazy stuff would happen,” Marcus said.
Marcus stumbled into Breitbart’s path as he began following the Tea Party, filming footage that he knew had the capacity to be a great documentary some day.

The film details the high marks of Breitbart’s war against the institutional left starting with the epic collapse of ACORN thanks to our happy warrior, James O’Keefe, Hannah Giles, and some crafty camera work.  They caught ACORN employees telling them how to cover up felonious activities on their tax forms.  Then, in 2010, there was the infamous and fabricated incident where Reps. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) and John Lewis (D-GA) alleged that the ‘n-word’ was hurled at them during the fight over health care reform.  In that same year, Breitbart exposed USDA official Shirley Sherrod for her racially charged remarksabout discriminating against white farmers – which lead to her termination.  Before her premature departure, she was the Georgia Director for Rural Development. Lastly, there was the ignominious tweet from then-Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) – which lead to his resignation from Congress.  As a result, a Republican, Bob Turner, won his seat in a special election held in September of 2011.  It’s the first time a Republican held that congressional district since 1923.
Spiering reported that during the making of the documentary – Andrew would regard the film crew as his “bodyguards.”  Furthermore, “He knew two speeds: he knew outrage and fun,” Marcus says. ‘The journey he ended up on – he soon began to realize that the tactic that was used against him could be defeated, and by defeating it, by confronting that, it made him stronger.Breitbart’s consistent victories over the left spun into an incredible narrative, which Marcus admits, kept the project moving forward every time they thought it was finished.”
When filming did finish due to Andrew’s unexpected death on March 1, 2012, Spiering stated that Marcus “was ‘devastated’ by Breitbart’s death and realized he was suddenly tasked with the responsibility of one of Breitbart’s definitive stories. His group spent a great deal of time struggling with the proper way to address Breitbart’s death, but decided against editing the film to make it retrospective.”
The film masterfully captures Andrew doing what he loved most at work and his colorful and inimitable personality.  He wasn’t a racist, a propagandist, or a con artist. He was a patriot doing what the media class has failed to do, which is to report the news in a way that is accurate and devoid of the thinly veiled connotations that seek to divide and conquer the American people.  A horrifying aspect Andrew witnessed firsthand growing up within the belly of the Hollywood left.  He vehemently says in the first few minutes of the film that he’s sick of those tactics and that’s not the America he envisions.
It also shows him as a charismatic force in this fight to destroy the mainstream media.  He didn’t declare himself the ‘boss’ or ‘king’ of new media.  Anyone who had a cellphone, camera, laptop, or access to any facet of social media was a potential soldier.  Anyone who had those resources and went to work reporting on things the mainstream media omitted due to political bias or exposing the media for their complicity in burying the truth was welcomed into his “army.”

For the political left and their allies within the mainstream media, this was a disaster.  Breitbart knew their game.  He knew how they would respond to his attacks and how his attacks would decimate their narrative that seeks to establish a hyper-regulatory progressive state.  Breitbart was always a step ahead of them and it became highly frustrating, especially when their own attacks blew up in their faces.
A rather heated exchange was recorded during CPAC 2010 in Washington D.C. between Breitbart and Salon.com’s Max Blumenthal concerning his post– which presented a false narrative against O’Keefe.  The article claimed, frivolously, that James had racial issues and the piece was aimed to discredit his work on ACORN and any other ventures he may plan in the future.  It was an egregious hit piece.  Andrew rightfully called Blumenthal a “punk” and Larry O’Connor detailed how his entire story, line by line, was debunked in twenty-four hours.
While Andrew may be gone, the film is a nice homage to the man who influenced others to stand up to the deliberate political censorship occurring in the media and the corruption that exists within government on all levels.  It’s not a dirge or constructed as a curtain call in this war against the left-wing, the media who aid them, and government officials who try to cheat Americans from their place at the bargaining table.  It doesn’t inexplicably cut to black a la The Sopranos.  In all, I think if this film’s message could be described in one sentence – it would be from Andrew’s father-in-law, Orson Bean, who says “praise the lord and pass the ammunition.”  Andrew may be gone, but the fight goes on and there will only be one winner. #WAR
Hating Breitbart had it’s D.C. premiere on October 8 and will open in theaters on October 19.


    


Media Chief Fired –  Romney “Happy to Throw a Party With Black People Dying”

When is it ever hilarious that the thought  of dozens if not hundreds of black people desperately clinging for life as torrential waters batter their children, mothers or neighbors ever funny?  David Chalian, a former political director with ABC News thought it was fair game to use a hate-mongering attack against Mitt Romney and Republicans gathered at the RNC Convention in Tampa, Florida on Wednesday.  In his vicious racist attack he said, Romney is, “Happy to throw a party with black people dying.”

Chalian, who was recently the Washington Bureau Chief for Yahoo News was fired for his online remarks, which brought no sense of alarm or even admonition from any of his on air colleagues.  This has become frighteningly familiar and comfortably abusive behavior by many liberal media persons who repeatedly target Republicans leaders and Tea Party members.
 
Only last night after Utah mayor and congressional candidate Mia Love gave a stunning speech at the Republican National Convention, her Wikipedia page was hacked. So in an atmosphere of  glowing GOP support for a rising star of the GOP who happens to be an African American woman, liberal attackers practiced their deceitful craft.  They used morally offensive language on her page and called her a “dirty, worthless wh*re who sold her soul in the name of big business, “and a house ni**er.”
 
This is the repugnant culture that mainstream media reporters and anchors have permitted to fester and grow, that seeds this type of morally bankrupt conduct. This is not new.
 
You do not have to go back very far to find media targeted bias. Last month, in the wake of the Colorado movie theater shootings, where 12 people were murdered, ABC News went on the air with a libelous claim against a Colorado Tea Party member.  During a morning news segment of Good Morning America, Anchor George Stephanopoulos, and Brian Ross, ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent erroneously and callously linked an innocent Colorado man with the same name to this tragedy without making any attempt at verification of his identity.   His only “alleged crime” was having being a member of the Tea Party. Brian Ross was never fired or reprimanded.
    


Paul Ryan’s Defense Of 2008-2009 Votes

One of the big questions since Mitt Romney selected Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as is running mate is whether it would bring in small government conservatives and libertarians on the Romney bandwagon. Ryan is well-liked by people due to his “Roadmap For America’s Future” and his 2009 verbal destruction of Obamacare to the President’s face.
There are still a few questions regarding Ryan’s voting record in the House. He supported TARP, the auto bailout and the taxes on AIG bonuses. He also supported the NDAA and the PATRIOT Act. These are things conservatives and libertarians don’t support because they expand government power and ended up supporting crony capitalism.
Ryan’s defense of the some of these votes are very interesting. In a 2010 interview with The Daily Caller, Ryan points out voted against the original auto bailout because he didn’t want them to get the money. His reasoning for eventually voting for the bailout was because it was limited money at $17.4 billion.  As Ryan put it, he was concerned it would become a “slush fund” with no limit if it were connected to TARP. It’s a strange reason, considering that Ryan eventually voted for TARP, however he deserves a bit a credit for his original no vote.
The vote Ryan probably regrets the most, is the one to put a tax on the AIG bonuses. It’s a key example of politicians reacting to a situation, instead of responding to it.  Ryan himself admits he was angry and made a “snap judgement” on the bill. He makes a good point at saying TARP was becoming a new avenue of crony capitalism. This has been pointed out several times in Peter Schweizer’s book, “Throw Them All Out,” which everyone should read. It’s nice Ryan says he made a mistake, even if hindsight is 20/20.
The decision to vote for TARP is one of the most interesting, and logical, defenses out there.  Ryan says it was to keep an even bigger government agenda from sweeping the nation, as well as, preventing a Depression. His key worry was to keep from happening, “a complete evisceration of the free market system we have…” This argument is actually something not many politicians have used.
In fact, it sounds a bit like the justification behind the Louisiana Purchase.
According to Harlow Unger’s book on President James Monroe called “The Last Founding Father,” President Thomas Jefferson wanted Monroe to tell the Spanish and French what American traders believe about New Orleans and Louisiana. As Jefferson said, “They have a natural…right to trade freely through the Mississippi,” and authorized $9 million to buy New Orleans. Congress authorized only $2 million. Monroe ended up paying $15 million.
Jefferson wasn’t sure whether to approve the purchase because he believed it violated the Constitution. As Unger writes, he apparently had problems the Constitution, “did not grant the government authority to acquire foreign territory…” Jefferson decided to approve the measure because Napoleon was going to back out of the sale.
Ryan’s defense of the TARP bill sounds a bit Jefferson’s defense of the Louisiana Purchase. Both sacrificed their constitutional beliefs to make sure something worse didn’t happen. In Jefferson’s case it was losing out on Louisiana and New Orleans and possibly never getting a shot at it again. In Ryan’s case, it sounds he was worried about another New Deal coming which would have increased the government even more.
It’s not an argument most of the Tea Party would agree with, but Ryan does a better job at saying why TARP should have been passed than John Boehner does.
Someone should ask Ryan about his votes for the PATRIOT Act and the NDAA. This type of information is important and we need to hear why Ryan did what he did.
To steal a line from Dan McLaughlin, Paul Ryan is a good pick for Mitt Romney because, while he’s not a complete Tea Party pick, he does hold more Tea Party values than Chris Christie. He’s also got a defined budget which isn’t perfect, but better than what the Democrats have. Which is nothing.
