Green Death

Eight regions of Spain have had their credit ratings cut as uneasy Spaniards moved their money overseas. Spooked by the questionable state of their banks, Spanish savers are now moving their money abroad faster than records have ever shown. Spain’s credit rating has been downgraded two notches and nearly 25% of Spaniards are unemployed

The Spanish newspaper La Gaceta ran a full-page article exposing the truth about Spain’s “green jobs” agenda, which just happens to have been cited many times by barack obama as the way “forward” for the United States. “Green energy” has now been exposed as a costly disaster that has undone Spain’s economy.

The Spanish Administration confessed “the increase of the electric bill is principally due to the cost of renewable energies.” It has now become officially recognized that the price of electricity, as well as increases in Spain’s debt are due to the extra cost of solar and wind energy. Additionally, the Spanish administration now admits that each green job that was created cost more than 2.2 traditional jobs in the private sector.

All evidence to the contrary, the obama administration insists on moving full speed ahead with its ill imagined, full frontal assault on the American energy industry, coupled with increased promotion of their “green jobs” fantasy.

Not only is coal America’s cheapest source of energy, the United States owns some the world’s largest coal deposits. Newly enacted EPA regulations now force a reduction in utility CO2 emissions to 1,000 pounds per megawatt of electricity. This regulation effectively bans construction of new coal-fired plants and will invariably lead to hikes in electricity costs. Since only natural gas meets the new emissions standard, the country’s electricity providers will be forced to pay the cost of converting to natural gas. One way or another, electricity prices will “necessarily skyrocket”.

Despite administration claims, obama’s hostility towards fossil fuels has led to reduced opportunities for domestic oil production. obama continues to call for the elimination of targeted tax breaks oil companies have been receiving for decades. The general public is largely unaware of the fact that those tax breaks are targeted chiefly for exploratory activities. Drilling for oil is an expensive, uncertain business venture. Even successful fields have limited lifespans. Besides, hiking taxes on new exploration is counter-intuitive to increasing production.

In addition to his open aggression towards traditional fuels, obama plans on “investing” more of American taxpayer money by doubling down on spending for wind farms, solar energy, homegrown biofuels and energy-efficient cars and buildings. The history of the administration’s “investment” strategy is fraught with peril.

Here are a few of the “green” “sustainable energy” failures that have already been supported by the current administration’s “investments”. Remember, all this financing was done using your tax dollars. Well, not exactly. It has been done with tax dollars to be re-paid to the Federal Reserve Bank and China by your grandchildren and great grandchildren. Plus interest:

Evergreen Energy-Which has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, saying it’s “impossible to maintain operations” due to funding shortfalls. This announcement came after the company received $5.3 million in “stimulus” funds.

Amonix Inc.-A manufacturer of solar panels that received $5.9 million from the “stimulus”, laid off about 200 employees only seven months after opening a factory in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s home State of Nevada.

Beacon Power Corp-Sought bankruptcy protection in 2010 after they received a $43 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy.

Ener1 Electric-A car battery manufacturer, filed for bankruptcy three years after receiving a $118.5 million grant from the U.S. government.

These are all in addition to Solyndra-A solar panel maker that received a $535 million loan guarantee, then famously filed for Chapter 11 protection.

This is a mere taste of problems found when centrally planned big government intrudes into the free market. Not only is the spending inherently wasteful, the fact that these companies were in large part operated by big donors to obama’s political campaign points to the corruption involved when an ideologically captive, politically driven politician makes investment decisions based on cronyism. Two thirds of all energy loan guarantees or grants made by the obama administration’s Department of Energy have gone to his campaign donors or donation bundlers. Can you say quid quo pro?

All government energy subsidies should end. Energy companies should be free to compete without government interference. If and when “green” “sustainable energy” becomes a competitive solution, consumers will reward “green” companies that used private capital to successfully situate themselves in the market by purchasing their products. That’s how a free market works. That’s what’s made America the greatest economic success in the history of human civilization.

In The Hypocrite Department…Nancy Pelosi

While the Obamas were vacationing in Hawaii over Christmas, there was another prominent Democrat also vacationing in Hawaii – Nancy Pelosi! She stayed on the “big island,” the island of Hawaii, at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka’upulehu in Kona. The cost to stay there: $10,000 per day. And that’s not all. This was not her first vacation at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. While in Hawaii, Pelosi has been escorted by local police during her last two holiday visits to Hawaii Island at a cost of $34,000 to local taxpayers.

What Nancy Pelosi does with her own money is her business. But when the champion of the poor and the disenfranchised is preaching to us that we must pass ObamaCare to see what’s in it, to get nearly 20% of ObamaCare waivers in her district, to embrace the Occupy Wall Street gang, to make her fortune through insider trading, to demand aircraft that could fly non-stop from Washington DC to California (not to mention her alcohol bill), the Catholic who favors abortion, her words ring hollow and get more than a little tiring. Besides, all that money she spent could have gone a long way to help the poor and unemployed, could be invested in new business ventures, job training, home repairs for some unemployed family, or helping to pay someone’s mortgage. But nooooooooooooooooooo, she wants to do these things with other people’s money – that is us taxpayers.

Do as I say, not as I do. Can anyone say “hypocrite?”

But that’s just my opinion.

Senator John McCain Blasts Big Government Grifters Taxpayer Abuse

Obama creates debt commission, then ignores their solutions

A grifter is defined by urbandictionary.com as a: someone who swindles you through deception or fraud, and b: a grifter is an expert in illicit acquisition of goods or services through various methods of over confident flim-flammery and fast talking. Apparently several members of Congress today fit both definitions of the term grifter, as outlined above. Senator John McCain took to the floor of the United States Senate today to call out the unauthorized spending, waste, and pay-for-play disservice to the American taxpayer that was slid into the current 2012 defense spending bill. This is where the term Big Government Grifter comes into play.

The Maverick Really Gets Fired Up! Senator John McCain (R-AZ) was livid about the wasteful spending he discovered that was tucked into the defense spending bill, and repeatedly slammed his fist down on the podium in an expression of utter disgust as he gave his floor speech today. The text of the entire speech is available here, and the following are just a few examples of exactly what was also mentioned in this article on the current omnibus spending bill also being rammed through Congress this week:

Mr. President, I come to the floor today to discuss the Fiscal Year 2012 Omnibus Appropriations bill that the House just passed this afternoon and the Senate will vote on tomorrow. Once again, the Senate is faced with a thousand-plus page behemoth of an appropriations bill and very little in the way of authorizations to support it. So here we are, at the end of another calendar year, cramming what should be months of actual debate and legislating into hours of reckless appropriating.

As was detailed in this CDN article, this points to a pattern of being done by design to avoid any forms of Congressional accountability and transparency. In a statement that backs that theory up, Senator McCain called upon Senator Coburn today to bring to light the fact that Congress is currently severely cutting funding to the Government Accountability Office in 2012. The GAO is the non-partisan watchdog that helps the government weed out waste and fraud to protect the taxpayers. The current planned cuts for the 2012 budget will result in a total of 400 less employees at the GAO.

Here are some bullet points from Mr. McCain’s Senate floor speech today:

So let’s compare last years omnibus debacle to this years:

• “Last year – 1,924 pages. This year – 1,221 pages.
• “Last year – all 12 annual appropriations bills. This year – nine of the annual appropriations bills.
• “Last year – over $1.1 trillion in spending. This year – over $915 billion in spending or $1.043 trillion if you include the three bills we’ve already passed. That works out to be a reduction of 5% from last year to this year. Taxpayers get a better deal at a Macy’s Christmas sale.
• “Last year – 6,488 earmarks totaling nearly $8.3 billion. This year – no traditional “earmarks” but over $3.5 billion in unauthorized spending in DoD alone.
“So should we consider this progress? Are we doing anything differently? The national debt is now at the record level of over $15 trillion, which is more than $48,000 per citizen, yet we have failed to make any significant, meaningful spending cuts and we continue with business as usual.

Senator McCain went on to outline how the whole appropriations process is fundamentally flawed today. “We have a fundamental problem in the Senate, Mr. President, of being unable to engage in the process of authorizing prior to regular appropriations. And what is the outcome? A handful of appropriators and unelected staffs disburse hundreds of billions of dollars, often in a manner that directly contravenes the will of the authorizers. Consequently, at the 11th hour of the process, we ram through an omnibus measure so that we can get out of town for the holidays. It’s disgraceful Mr. President.”

Mr. McCain goes on to show us how unauthorized spending has been injected into the defense spending bill through this rushed-through omnibus bill they are now being forced to pass.
This omnibus contains a number of objectionable provisions: (shortened versions)

Guam is getting earmarks of $33 million U.S. taxpayer dollars for 53 civilian school buses, and a cultural artifacts depository. (museum) Sen. McCain added, “I can only say that the many citizens of Arizona who are out of work, whose homes have been lost due to the economic downturn, who would benefit from any sort of action by the Federal Government to create jobs and ease their burdens, feel nothing but outrage when they see this kind of blatant waste and abuse of the political system that has gone on for years and years and years. But that’s not the end of this sad story. Within this initial funding grant to Guam of $33 million is $9.6 million for the first phase of a mental health facility that advocates claim is somehow related to the proposed military buildup on Guam. I’m still trying to sort this argument out, but I have that odd feeling that to do so I must go down the rabbit hole to Alice in Wonderland.

And Senator McCain was just getting wound up in the first 10 minutes of today’s floor speech, to which he added about the Guam mental health facility to be built with U.S. Taxpayer dollars: “And, of course, this $9.6 million dollars of pork in the FY12 Defense Appropriations bill is only the down payment, the ‘nose of the camel under the tent’ you might say, because to complete the facility as required to satisfy the already existing federal injunction against Guam, another $33 million will be required next year in 2013 to finish out the project as well as building a new public health laboratory. Wonderful!”
Senator McCain went on to mention the Tea Party and how fed-up Americans are with these kinds of Big Government Grifters that are doing this kind of wasteful, reckless spending:

The American people have seen this kind of abuse and waste for far too often, and they have had enough of it. They are convinced Congress never learns. And by this example, it’s hard to say they are wrong. In fact, this sort of complete waste and abuse of the taxpayers’ money proves they are exactly right.”

To which he added: “If you don’t understand the rise of the Tea Party, you can start by looking right here.”

The second half of Senator McCain’s Senate floor speech was just as informative as the first half as he laid out such things as other provisions. “The Defense portion of the Omnibus contains some $3.5 billion in unrequested, unauthorized spending for items that are not core, high-priority Defense requirements. As you will see, Mr. President, many old favorites appear on the list.” Again, I urge all concerned citizens to check the complete list of waste, fraud, and taxpayer abuse found in the latest omnibus bill, brought to you by the Big Government Grifters of Congress, and outlined on Senator McCain’s website.

Footnote: How ironic is this fact? Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY) Is on the House floor giving a speech right now, saying how wonderful the tireless staff on the House Appropriations Committee have been while working on this omnibus bill. Mr. Rogers is the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. Maybe he should give Senator John McCain a call and have a discussion about just how wonderful this pork-laden, fraud-upon-the-taxpayers omnibus truly is for the U.S. Taxpayer.

In D. C. Taxpayers Bilked by Drug Kingpin/ Agency Administrator

Just when we thought we had heard it all concerning the corruption in our nation’s capitol, along comes a group calling itself “Miracle Hands Inc.” In Washington D.C., the Inspector general has filed a lawsuit against Miracle Hands for using $330,000 of your tax dollars to… open a strip club! Tied into this taxpayer fraud are several D.C powerplayers, a convicted drug kingpin, assorted lawyers, and even the head of a D.C. HIV/Aids agency that was in charge of distributing taxpayer dollars, and who after being fired went to work for “Miracle Hands.” And the fraud didn’t stop at a mere $330,000 grand either.

From TheWashingtonTimes we see this:

From 2004 to 2008, Miracle Hands received more than $4 million from the D.C. HIV/AIDS Administration. In 2008, the group was tainted by an FBI raid and complaints from city monitors and former clients that it had misused city funds.

Enter one Debbie Rowe, the above mentioned former administrator for the D.C. HIV/Aids program that handed out all of these grants. She reportedly now works for Miracle Hands. Low and behold, Ms. Rowe was fired in… 2008, the time that $4 million in grants was handed out to corrupt officials and notorious drug kingpin Mr. Cornell Jones, AKA The Ghost. Mr. Jones did time in prison, and also has a serious problem with the IRS and income tax evasion. Again we see how high this corruption goes, as Mr. Jones apparently has yet to pay his back taxes, and the IRS has decided that the taxpayers have no right to that information:

Federal court records show Mr. Jones owned several businesses and numerous residential properties in the District and Maryland used to launder money and to store and prepare narcotics for distribution. He used friends and family members to conceal his drug-dealing activities, the records show. In the investigation leading to his arrest and 1986 conviction for drug trafficking, detectives found $586,300 in cash in a safe-deposit box in the name of his father and mother.A federal tax court slapped Mr. Jones with a $16.5 million judgment in 1990, saying he had failed to report income on $33 million in drug sales from 1985. Mr. Jones was released from prison in 1995 after serving the low end of a nine- to 27-year sentence. The Internal Revenue Service declined to comment on the status of Mr. Jones’ tax debt. They even made a movie about him titled American Gangster

As reported last week by The Washington Times, claiming it is a sexually oriented business that should have been denied a permit. The club is co-owned by politically connected developer Keith Forney, a donor of unspecified amounts to D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr.’s nonprofit group Team Thomas.

Though the FBI confirmed the investigation in 2009, the bureau would not comment for this article. However, since 2009, Miracle Hands has continued to receive city funds in excess of $1.5 million, according to figures released by the chief financial officer’s office, bringing the group’s total city funding since 2004 to more than $5.8 million.

Nearly a year since the Stadium Club opened as a high-end strip club with a premium steakhouse and private rooms at 2127 Queens Chapel Road, the websites for the Health Department and HIV/AIDS Administration still direct city residents seeking social services to Miracle Hands — at 2127 Queens Chapel Road. I offer the screenshot of this farce of a taxpayer funded group, and teh false claims they make from their very own website:

A city grant monitor informed Rowe that Miracle Hands funding grants should be stopped immediately, yet Rowe refused to adress the problems, instead calling Mr. Jones and company.

The monitor advised Rowe that Miracle Hands’ funding should be cut. But Rowe, called a “close friend of Jones” in the lawsuit, reportedly said the project was on pace and kept the funding in place. By then, though, Jones had already transferred a liquor license from a strip club he owned in Southeast to the Miracle Hands warehouse in Northeast, the suit said

When we ask ourselves if anyone will see actual prison time here, we have to consider a few facts concerning just who was involved. Big time connected D.C. lawyers and developers are in bed with a notorious drug kingpin whom the IRS refuses to tell us how much of the $16.5 million dollars in taxes that he did not pay has been paid back. City councilmen and D.C. grant program administrators are also heavily involved. I am a realist and will go on the record right now in informing you that not one person will see actual jail time and/or fines as a result of this massive taxpayer fraud and DC corruption, not one. This is just business as usual in Washington D.C. today. The taxpayers are being raped by government approved gangsters, and no one has the courage to stand up to them today.

Get Your FREE Cellphone, America! It’s the NEW Entitlement!

Yesterday I posted an ad on Craigslist for some things I am giving away. I posted in the Free section, because quite honestly I just do not have the time to haggle with people. The things I am getting rid of are not in the greatest of condition, but they are still usable for someone just starting out.

When I clicked the link in my email to confirm my posting, it took me to the main Craigslist Free listings page. I had to scroll to find my posting. As I was scrolling, another listing caught my eye. The title was something along the lines of, “Get Your Free Cell Phone Paid For By The Government”. I opened up the listing, and saw a full page ad for a government issued cell phone, if you “qualify”. The post also warned to make sure you write everything down because some people “have nothing better to do than report the ad as spam”.

I did not have a chance to read through everything last night, and sure enough, when I went back to check it out today, the ad is gone. However, all I had to do was do a general Internet search for “free government cell phone” and not only did I find the company that I saw the ad for yesterday, but several others as well!

As I browsed through some of the sites, I read the comments, and one person posted:

“Wow this is awesome i think the government is doing everything to help us.Cheers”

Yes, I quoted that word for word, exactly as it was written!

Honestly, I am not sure why I am writing this article right now, because I just do not have the words to express how appalled I am with finding this information!

So, don’t worry, America! You are going to be alllllll better now, with Uncle Sugar taking care of you! I am not quite sure when Uncle Sam moved out and Uncle Sugar moved in, but it looks like he’s here to stay! With Uncle Sugar’s cell phone offer you get a FREE phone AND 250 FREE minutes a month! WOW! Where do I sign up?

Oh wait! Excuse me? Oooooohhhhhhhhhhhh! Ok! I don’t qualify?  And just why is that?

Oh, I see! Because I am a responsible adult and I don’t expect the government to take care of me?

So……….. where is Uncle Sugar getting the money to pay for all these free cell phones and cell minutes!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I see! From MY pocket, and every other honest, tax-paying citizen!

You are so very welcome, Uncle Sugar and all those looking for yet another free handout! One day, my money is going to run out, and that day is not too far away! Whatcha gonna do then, huh?

America…  tax-payers- when does it stop? When are we going to say, “Enough is ENOUGH!” ?

Budgetary Boondoggle: Round 6

In an article posted here at CDN on Feb. 14th titled, “Upcoming Budget: Nowhere to Run*,  I explained how I could see that our current Congress would not be able to even come close to passing a responsible budget for 2011 fiscal year. Looking at today’s news headlines, this budget boondoggle is following along exactly as I stated it would. Today the House passed the sixth Continuing Resolution budget in a row to temporarily fund our government. Here we are approaching the half way point in fiscal year 2011, and we are still basically running our government on a blank check drawn on the taxpayers account!  No accountability will ever come out of the last four and a half years of trillion dollar deficits within our government, all because the people are letting this farce of a budget battle continue to play out like a cheap failed soap opera of the 60’s. No budget basically means no way to keep spending in check and hold these tyrants in D.C. accountable for their actions.

We recently saw the complete overthrow of the government of Egypt because the people were damned tired of tyrannical rulers sitting on gold toilets while 3/4 of the country went hungry, to sum it up in a nutshell. Meanwhile here in America the exact same thing is being done on a much grander scale, yet the people are pretty much silent. Congress is paid to do a job, and that job is to basically run the Federal Government, to produce leglislation to protect the people and businesses fairly, and last but not least, is to ensure that the taxpayer’s money is spent fairly and wisely. Ask yourself one simple question, “Is Congress doing their job as it is laid out by our Constitution today?”  Then why isn’t there a national calling to shut down the government and hold Congress accountable? The self-serving tyrants in D C will just keep on spending us into bankruptcy until the people stop giving them the money to do so. It is that simple.

No taxation without proper representation, period.

In 1974, Congress passed what was then called The Congressional Budget Act.*  This also spawned what we now know as The Congressional Budget Office. The CBO was created as an unbiased accounting office to supply Congress with economic data to help them draw up budget resolutions, and compile economic data projections for other proposed legislation to be based upon. The original Congressional Budget Act of 1974 has been amended several times, including in 1985, 1990, and 1997. The basic budget process can be seen here from wordiq.com* which summarizes the process nicely: (emphasis mine)

The President’s Budget

The budget process begins in February with the submission of the President’s budget. According to the act, the budget is due on the first Monday in February. At this stage, the budget is not binding but merely constitutes an extensive proposal of the administration’s intended spending for the following fiscal year. In addition to the actual proposal, the President submits volumes of supporting the information intended to persuade Congress of the necessity and value of the budget provisions. In addition to the President, each independent agency also submits its own budget proposal which will be incorporated into the final version of the budget.

Budget Resolution

The next step is the drafting of a budget resolution. The resolution is drafted concurrently by the House and the Senate budget committees. Following the traditional calendar, by early April both committees finalize their drafts and submit it to the respective floors for consideration and adoption. ( today is march 16th 2011, right around the corner)

Once both houses pass the resolution, a conference report is drafted by members of the Senate and the House. The purpose of the conference report is to reconcile any differences that may exist between the House and the Senate versions. Usually, the conference report is adopted finalizing the budget resolution.

In contrast to most legislation passed by Congress, the budget resolution is a concurrent resolution and thus does not become law and does not require the signature of the President. As a result, no money has actually been appropriated at that point. The budget resolution then serves as a blue print for the actual appropriation process.

Fast forward to today, where the House GOP leadership  has proposed their budget resolution with the very necessary cuts in government spending that will be needed to avoid raising our debt ceiling to over $15 trillion dollars.  The house Democrats  say no, we will not approve anyserious spending cuts, and threaten to let the government shut down if they are not allowed to keep on spending us into financial Armageddon. Meanwhile, the game goes on, with the basically illegal Continuing Resolutions being passed again and again to avoid any semblance of accountability in how our tax dollars are being spent. When do the people say enough is enough here? April 15th is tax day, when millions of Americans go to write out that big fat tax payment check to the IRS, they should stop for one second and ask themselves one simple question: ” Is this taxation without proper representation? ”

Our dysfunctional Congress just passed the sixth continuing budget resolution in a row, with no firm budget resolution in sight! I normally recommend that people call their representatives and demand some sanity at this point in my articles. The people spoke up loud and clear against big government, Egyption-style self servancy and tyrannical spending in the 2010 elections, and have been speaking up ever since. In reading the above information, does it look like our representatives are listening ?  Think about that come April 15th, when you write that IRS payment check out soon. The way this is going, it will be double that amount next year and probably more.
